With the PSN down, I've had a bunch of extra time on my hands. I know that there has been a lot of discussion on the boards about the difficulty of the Sebastian Vettel Challenge: some think its too difficult and therefore not fair or fun, others enjoy the challenge of possibly the most difficult event(s) in the game.

I'm currently watching the F1 Turkish Grand Prix, and the coverage has included some highlights of Sebastian Vettel's actual racing. I have to admit, I got pretty frustrated with the Vettel Challenge until I really saw what a dominant racer he is in real life F1. That being said, I now have a new appreciation for the Vettel Challenge and honestly think PD had it right with the original faster lap times required to win the challenge.

Even in an imaginary car in a video game, its pretty much inconceivable that the vast majority of GT5 players could compete with Vettel. I still haven't gold-ed all the events, but I do have to say that I will officially stop complaining about this event's difficulty.

Suzuka give me most fun with entire challenge because i did help a few guys with that track. It was a blast and finally i went under magic 2:09

For some people it's too hard to go under 2:10 and achieve Gold but if you try and try you can beat that time for more than entire second !

I love this challenge :)

i know what you mean, it can be really fustrating, trying to get to grips with some of these challenges. i really strugled with the kublewaggen/topgear test until i worked out not to bounce off the rev limiter all the way round (dumbass).
i think the problem with the redbull challenge is that the car is such i weapon that you can't build up to it slowly. you've got to give it 100% straight out of the box. if your not attacking every single inch of the lap then your going to end up in the barrier, but the problem with that is the car's a complete animal so until you've practiced enough to to give it 100 % you're going to end up in upside down, on fire, in the barrier.

as far as keeping up with vettel ? !
it's a game guys. in real life it's never gonna happen .
vettel is going to be one of the all time greats (schumacher / senna / fangio) . this afternoon he lapped vitantonio liuzzi 5 times and if your all felling honest, liuzzi would probably lap all of us 5 times.
not that it's going to stop any of us trying

vettel played this game and on super softs his best lap time was 1:08;884 @ nurnburg. kinda lame that gold require 2:08

The whole point of making it hard (but doable) was to make the prototype X2010 a real trophy car, trading and duping *****d all that up though :(

^ I haven't seen too many Carbon X2010's online, and nearly all the ones I found had excellent drivers in control ;)

I'm using a DS3 and I've managed to get a silver on Monza, but on the Nurburgring I'm about 4 seconds off the silver time. IMO the silver times are way too close to the gold times (although I know some people have gotten golds with DS3's).

I've completed it to gold with a steering wheel... started new account to do the challenges again... they were fun and challenging at the same time... cant wait to do them again... :)

Hehe its a nice challenge but I set my own limits just now when I saw this thread thought I'd pop on for an hour or 2 on this challenge managed;

Nurburgring: 2:05.9 (2:04 possible) - Gold time is 2:08
Monza: 1:59.4 (1:58 possible) - Gold time is 2:04
Suzuka 2:08.691 (2:07 possible) - Gold time is 2:10

Think when I get back from GT Academy I'll give it a bash to get all those times :). They were on a wheel, but I cant help feel my DS3 achievement with the x2010 has just implanted the x2010 into my brain :D.

Vast majority? It's inconceivable that anyone playing the video game could compete with Vettel (unless Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are spending lots of time on GT5, LOL). He's the Formula One world champion and he blows his teammate out on a consistent basis ... nobody playing a videogame is remotely in his league.

Plus, even if he set the actual gold times, I doubt he spent very much time doing it compared to the hours upon hours we spend trying to beat those times.

Where did you get that time? The vid I've got shows 1:04.853 with no front tire skidding or smoke at all.

I don't mind the challenge (even for a DS3 user!), the only thing I have an issue with is the decision to disqualify you for going off track. This means when learning you have far more practice at the first few corners. I wish they just invalidated the lap and turned the time red as per other tests in the game.

Including ME!!
If you're using a controller you need literally hours on end to get gold at each track.

I'm not a fan of this challenge. The times don't bother me, but the car.

The only way to practice is to run one of the three events, which is fine if you don't mind running the same three or four corners over and over and over. It's hard to get used to the car when your experience comes 15-20 seconds at a time.

After an hour i was able to complete my first lap at Monza but missed my braking point going into the first chicane by a wide margin...
