If it is one thing I love about college sports (especially football), you get a chance to take a look at lovely campuses around America. I've seen some wonderful atmospheres when I watch college football games on TV. Of course, watching them on TV and then going to the campuses in person are two different things. When I went to Kerrville, TX, USA, I was welcomed to a wonderful atmosphere. Perhaps the focal point of this hilly place in around southwest Texas, I was so humbled with the environment there. I normally thought that Texas was all ranches and some small towns. After going months ago to [try to get enrolled in] Schreiner University, the environment was a lovely one. I've seen hills with plenty of trees and grass on them. I've even seen a few houses out there on those hills. I'm sure uphill bicycle rides would certainly be fun. But the university itself is small and handsome. You can see for yourself about the university at: http://www.schreiner.edu .

When a vote was made as to what the most beautiful campus in America was, the vote was given to a college called Mount Holyoke. Most of the powerhouses I seen in college football TV coverage have games played on wonderful campuses. Everything from UCLA's and their Rose Bowl to the MASSIVE campus of the University of Michigan, everyone has a preference as to what the most beautiful college campus is. And according to a poll at http://www.studentsreview.com, here are the top 5 American colleges that were considered as the most beautiful:

1 = Vanderbilt University
2 = University of Virginia
3 = Mount Holyoke College
4 = Cornell University
5 = Clemson University

GTPlanet, what college do you think is the most beautiful in America, or which is your favorite? You know, instead of American campuses, I'm going one better. I'd want to invite colleges around the world. So for example, if you live in England attending college and yours beat American ones, go for it! If you live in Australia and yours is better, bring it! This topic is about which colleges and/or universities are the most beautiful in America, or in the world. Reply now to kick things off.

Awesome! Clemson got 5th! I live about 30 miles from Clemson and have been to several football games. I agree it is a beautiful campus and it's my dream college to which I'll be applying to next year. I have friends who say "I'm going Harvard or Yale" and crap like that but i just say " Nope. I'm shootin' for Clemson."

....SMU.

:also known as southern millionare's university.

my cousin went there on full scholarship because he is like the best discus thrower evar (and they had the best team. hannes and mikey pwn j00). anyways....even though they have a beautiful campus...and like zillions of dollars, they closed the men's track program because of asshat management and planning led to insufficient funds. i fail to understand the reasoning behind dumping all of athletic funding into equestrian teams (note: where the human athlete count = 0!!!) and a garbage football team who HASNT WON A GAME LAST SEASON.

idiots....they really had like the best throwers program in the NCAA too. but its all good, hannes went back to south africa and my cousin mike is now headed to stanford. :D

anyhow, back to SMU....i really like their campus. the buildings look really cool. but then again, what can you expect from a school with a parking lot that rivals BMW's intl. headquarters.

The only College Campus I have seen in full is the University of Illinois @ Champagne-Urbana. It is gorgeous. I really want to go there. God willing, I will! :D

This may seem biased but out of the hundreds of college football games I've gone to, I'm still partial to Madison, WI in mid October. Downtown just looks fantastic, and the football stadium is great.

Well if you like Clemson, you can see the rest of the results at the website below this paragraph. The list goes up to 50 different campuses.

http://www.studentsreview.com/rank_...E1=5&as_list=1&sr_title=Most+Beautiful+Campus

While Clemson is one of the lovliest campuses in America, too bad they lost to Big XII team Texas A&M. MSN had its own Top 10 list of beauiful college campuses, and the vote there was Wagner. Check it out here:

So judging on the two beautiful colleges mentioned, I mentioned Vanderbilt as #1 according to the studentsreview.com poll made. Let me mention five other college campuses mentioned from studentsreview/com, and I'll go based on popular ones, maybe for bigtime sports colleges, and such. Others on the list include Lehigh, Washington University in St. Louis, Rice University, University of Miami, and Pennsylvania State University. Ahh, Penn State. Home of the Nittany Lions headed by good old Joe Paterno. I hate bringing up college sports when I'm talking about colleges, but Lehigh is pretty good at college basketball. I think they made it to the post-season in the men's bracket.

The only real standout in the MSN list is maybe Pepperdine. Ladies and gentlemen, name beautiful colleges, or at least your favorites. I think the most impressive view I've seen of a college is from UCLA's Rose Bowl where you can see the mountains in the distance. Lovely sight. So carry on, folks.

I'm glad Cornell is on the list. My dad went there, and I would have liked to go there, but I was too lazy in school. I've been up there quite a few times, and it's definitely a gorgeous campus. I go to school at the University of Dayton in Ohio, it's a very nice looking campus. Lots of churches and statues and fountains and whatnot.

Mt. Holyoke is an all-women college from what I learned. I had a chance to view a little webcam of a part of the campus. I seen some green grass, nice green trees, and a few red-brick buildings. They looked very nice. And it's no wonder it's been voted as one of the best-looking college campuses in America. While I have my copy of NCAA Football 2004 on my PS2, I noticed some college buildings and nice trees in the background in one of the endzones of the University of Southern Mississippi. When it comes to seeing other colleges, my medium has been college sports, especially college football. And I don't think I seen any colleges better known for their college basketball except for maybe Loyola University.

Do you know any lovely college campuses in the world or in America? Carry on discussion. And if you want to share websites or pictures, you're free to. By the way, Omnis, the Army Black Knights were also winless, even losing to their big rival, Navy.

That is pretty crappy but I don't go to a college for the athletics program. When did they close the track program? I don't remember that.

And I also believe that the Tigers did win a game last year. I know they suck but i'm still gonna cheer for them.

My university's campus is my favourite. The most of the main buildings are old and kinda ugly but the new ones they're putting up all have some excellent architecture to them. The reason I love my campus so much is the location. Just a block away is one of the largest malls in the country, a block in the other direction takes me to the red light district. A few subway stops takes me to some of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at. TONS, and I mean TONS of opportunities for taking photos everywhere I look. Add in the fact that students in IT are going to be getting a building to call our own late next year and well...I love this place.

edit:
I forgot to mention that I prefer the urban environment over the secluded "pristine" areas that so many other universities are in.
I also REALLY like the bright lights and fast pace of living in the city. Plus toronto is really cool looking at night time :)

Duke University in North Carolina has some really old gothic-style buildings that look cool, as well as some modern ones that are created in a Frank Lloyd Wright-style: combining the human-crafted element with nature looks great and seamless.

You enter the campus after entering through a forest. Many of the bulidings are surrounded by wooded groves, it gives you the feeling that this school is sealed-off from the rest of the world...

Well the University of South Florida (my school), is pretty, But that mainly because of its grounds. The Architecture is decades between each other. The school really took off in the 70's, and the 70's weren't a good time for a lot of things that involved design. Now the school is expanding. (Hugely) The Architecture now is fantasticly modern, and compliments the grounds really well, but because its so new I don't think it truely wins me over.
No the school that wins me over is the University of Miami. The campus just screams Miami. With its beautiful greens, and fantasticly huge Palm trees. Its like going to school in a movie set. Most of the buildings are a sandy white color, which in my eyes is just an amazing offset to the greenery sround them. Just a great campus. Watch a UM game, and they will show pictures.

it was closed as of last season. that means that last year's season was the last one, and there is no more men's track as of today and this coming season.

This just in: Stanford campus blows the hell out of smu.

....this has been a gtp update brought to you by my cousin michael.

thank you and have a nice day! <_<

You know, Magic069... the studentsreview.com votes for "most beautiful college campuses" is a story of two Miamis. First off, the University of Miami in Florida was rated #33, while Miami University in Ohio was rated #15. Myself personally, love the University of Miami atmosphere. And of course, watching a Hurricane football game (even if they're out pwning Chris Rix of Florida State) is always great. I like tropical atmospheres, and UM is no different. I'll try to look up pictures of the University of Hawaii. You pretty much know that Hawaii is a pretty nice getaway location, but imagine going to college there!

Now keep in mind about these two lists, they are not based on scientific analysis or anything. So I'm just here pressing the issue about lovely colleges.

If you want to check out the University of Hawaii at Manoa to see if this is what you'd call beautiful, look at this website: http://manoa.hawaii.edu. Or as the Hawaiians would spell: The University of Hawai'i. I like this place, and if you don't like Hawaii to begin with, you may not like the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The Manoa division of the University of Hawaii is otherwise a lovely place to look around and... oh yeah. Attend college.

To press the international college issue, some say Cambridge in England is a wonderful place to attend college. You agree? Or is there any non-American school that is lovely or is your favorite? Reply on. By the way another potential candidate for "lovely college," basketball giants, the University of Kansas. Home of the Jayhawks.

You know, this year, I'm going to try to watch more college basketball and try to get into college basketball as much as I am into college football. I think when ESPN had one of the Ohio State/Michigan of college basketball, Duke/UNC, I think I seen Duke or North Carolina. It's a lovely campus full of old world glory. The University of South Florida? I never seen it, but I know that Raymond James Stadium is close by, and of course it's where the Tampa Bay Buccaneers play.

Any more wonderful colleges and universities you want to bring to this conversation?
