GT4genius or GTP_...
I was told about this site a few days ago, and it looks quite good.

http://www.bullbearings.co.uk

You start with £100,000 to buy any shares, currencies etc you want at the real time price with commission and all and then you can sell them whenever you want (hopefully after they've risen!).

I've created a league for GTPlanet, if any of you are interested in joining it the name is GTPlanet Brokers and the password is gt5 prologue.

Hopefully some of you are interested so as we can get a friendly competition going here and some harmless speculation.

Good luck, and dont worry its not real money. If you get good, maybe that wouldn't be a bad idea though!

As I said, I only found out about this a few days ago, and those BP shares I bought today havent done me any favors, dont laugh.

I hope this is a good place to post this, I thought about 'Gaming in General' but this isnt a game in that sense.

I've done something very similar for economics class (we used $100,000 instead), and it was quite fun then.

It could be a bit of fun. And if your not too sure where to start risking your hard earned 100K handed 100K then maybe AIB or BoI could be a good place, because there is a 'mini' budget here tomorrow and there is suppose to be announcements on the banking recovery plans, so they might go up or down after that.

I'm in, ive koined the league as "Aldo001"
I have no idea of any business or stock related anything so it should be a laugh

"....and it's gone!"

Can you join if you are in the US?

We've done this with marketwatch. Search the rumble strip for stock competition or something.

Is there any point in keeping this thread open then? Some people seem interested though.

@Northstar; I think you can join from the US, it might be a bit awkward dealing with £'s though, but I'm use to euros and I dont find it too difficult.

as long as i can tell whether i'm making or losing money i'm in.

Edit: nevermind they ask for my address, I really don't want a bunch of juk mail

Games like these are a lot of fun. I've been running one for little over a month at the Marketwatch Virtual Stock Exchange, and so far, I'm up by +46.74% since the start, over 54% just this month. You can see my current portfolio here.

It might be fun to re-try one of these games again...

Probably not. You might want to re-named it competition 3 or something. Here are the links to the other two threads.

If thats true you've taken some big risks leaving yourself with only £300 cash. :scared:

Mine arent doing so well yet either, but I hope to be in the blue by this evening if all goes to plan.

Im almost certain i hadnt spent that much
Epic fail on my part then :ouch:

Does anyone understand how the Foreign exchange thing works? I bought (or thought I bought) 10K worth of dollars in euros, and 10K worth of pounds in euros. But the menu is confusing, and I think I may have bought them the other way round now, because even though the current price is above the opening price it says I'm better off. I thought it should be the other way, no?

Hi, I've been doing this bullbearings thing for a while now so might as well join the league :):nervous:

Edit: I'll make a new account, it's not as fun starting the league with £1.2m !

Wow, nice amount you've got there. You should try some of this for real*.

*Note I'm not responsible for any losses if you do decide that. :p

I'm trying this out... and I had a noob question... Can you place two separate orders, one to buy shares when the price drops below a certain level, and then have another one that will sell the shares back when the price reaches a certain level? My logic is that most of the top 100 companies share-prices fluctuate, but typically most of them will stay to within a certain range. So if you always set your buying price near the low end of the range, and set your selling price at the high end of the range, you can pick the shares up automatically when they run low, but then hold on to them until you are sure you will have made a tidy profit on them... is this what you are supposed to do?!

That would be your basic strategy, except by setting a limit order you're effectively limiting the profit you can make...assuming the stock will rise back up to your sell limit. It's better (but not always practical of course) if you can be there to monitor the trend and try to buy at the very bottom and sell at the very top.

So after week one the table looks like this:

Stocks
1) Peterram430 - £105,734
2)TenchiFreak5 - £100,000 (in-active)
3)TouringMars - £99,942
4)GTgem - £99,806
5)Aldo001 - £96,974

Foreign Exchange
1)GTgem - £100,260
2)Aldo001 - £100,129

What does that tell us? Peterram practices the dark arts! And for the novices like Aldo and myself the FX market is the place to go.

Over the whole week not much went well for me, I made £1,000 on RBS shares and I'm currently up about £360 on the pound against the euro, but the losses with Bank of Ireland and Allied Irish Bank are a bit embarrassing, but it was an unusual week for them.

How was it for everyone else?

How was it for everyone else?

:grumpy:It was all going well until this morning. I had £109,000 at one point.

:sly:

But let's not forget I've only got £3000 cash, if there's a big fall I'll loose far more than any of you:nervous:

Also it’s not too late to join if anyone else is interested, the more the better!

So theres still hope for us yet. :dopey:

This is true, in fact if anyone joins now they'll instantly be joint second!

You guys are long on banks? That's funny.

....aaaand it's GONE!

Well, my current stocks are losing cash, but overall I'm in profit... £2 to be exact  Heck, atleast it's more than my ISA has managed

You think thats bad? Literally 10 mins ago RBS and AIB shares went way up, leaving me with £101,000, needless to say I was delighted, only to press refresh and for it all to be wiped out! :(
But I'm hopeful for the same surge tomorrow morning.

One month on how have we all been doing?

Stocks
1 Peterram430 - £128,278
2 GTgem - £108,750
3 TouringMars - £98,410
4 Aldo001 - £96,974

FX
1 GTgem - £100,603
2 Peterram430 - £100,162
3 Aldo001 - £100,139

How has everyone found the first month?

I'm in.

Having never hard of a lot of these companies, it might be a bit difficult for me at first. I'll get used to it, though.

I love RBS

I knew I should have bought more of them. :indiff:
It was AIB and BoI that brought last weeks 94K up to 108K. Although it was also them that brought it down in the first place.
