I got GT5 for Christmas and would like some advice from people who have walked miles in these shoes. I have already completed the B license and am almost done with the 2nd one, and I have done multiple a spec events. What is recommended way about things that you wish you knew when you first got the game?

Don't go on a car buying spree until you are done the game. You can win some 150 cars in the game. Plus, you need to do a lot of saving later on.

Decide well on your upgrades. because some upgrades done are not able to be downgrade.

Example : Engine upgraded are non-downgradeable

Best is not to worry about the "perfect" games and just have fun. It is easy to start over or create a second game with a new PS3 user. As you get into a game a ways you will see opportunities you missed or alternatives you wish you had taken advantage of. If you want to experiment with different starting strategies do it. If you are less than level 15 starting over only costs you a couple days playing to get back to the same level.

I have probably started over more times than anyone. I've tried different starting cars and different approaches to the game. For example my current game is at level 26 B-spec but I have not touched A-spec at all. Why? Because I can get all the cars and credits I need to launch my A-spec career through B-spec and to get 100% completion you need to do B-spec so why not get it out of the way first?

So, as you can see there is no "right" way to play the game. Just do what gives you the most fun and don't worry...

Well, what are your intentions? Do you want to play A-Spec, B-Spec, or online?

If you want to play A and / or B-Spec, use prize cars to advance as far as you can without spending credits on anything, until you're required to do so. The two modes bounce off of each other nicely as far as "win car from license and / or special event, use car in A-Spec, win race event, win another car, use car in B-Spec, win race event, win yet another car, rinse and repeat".

If you want to race online, give spectator mode a try to see what some of the other drivers are using. If you see something that catches your eye, try buying that particular car for yourself. Find out if you like it showroom stock before dumping your hard-earned credits into upgrading it.

Good luck!

Do yourself a favour, take on the online challenges as soon as you can. Gold the Challenger race at Indy and the RX7 rae and you will jump to level 15 or so and pocket about a million cr

Someone may even gift you an RX7 or Challenger if you ask nicely and give it back when you are done.

Thank you everybody for the advice. What is the preferred "assist" settings for a beginner? I don't want to be on railroad tracks the whole race but then again don't want to be on ice.

Keep ABS to 1, even vets use it most of the time. For FF or AWD cars, I would say no assists even if your a new to driving sims, but you might prefer traction control for FR/MR cars as they like to spin out in lower gears. Eventually you will get better. Also, while assist help you keep control, they do it by sacrificing speed, so keep that in mind.

👍👍👍 THIS!!

Especially: READ THE STICKIES!!! They are stuck at the top for a reason.

Otherwise, welcome to GTPlanet! I just discovered this Forum in November about a week before I got GT5, and it's a godsend if used properly. :D
