Hey guys, I just started drifting about 2 days ago and am not really getting the hang of it. I am using an RX-8 w/ Comfort Soft tires. I'm able to drift some of the corners on Trial mountain, but can't really get that perfect slide.
Help me out with what cars to use, tunes, etc...
Do any of you think you could show me the ropes and help me out in-game?

First mistake: Comfort Soft - Start with comfort hards, they have no traction and it can help you get used to your car's back wheels losing grip.
Second Mistake: Trial Mountain - I suggest drifting Tsukuba Circuit to start out with

+1 👍

Although you can start with any car, the RX8 might not be the one to choose.
Take a light, low powered car (S13, Trueno, 200SX), but on comfort hards and a cheap sport suspension. That's it.
Now take one simple course and keep practicing until you're able to control the car. Then go slowly up on the power and other kind of modifications.
It may be very frustrating first, but after a while you sure will get it done.

First off - switch to Comfort Hards. The best tires for tandem drifting is comfort hards. Seriously, who doesn't want to tandem? The car will feel loose and you will spin out a lot but keep at it - you will eventually get the hang of it. Comfort hard tires will give you a better sense of how your car is sliding. Find lobbies where the tires are restricted to comfort hards and drift with those people - you will get a feel for it that way by seeing it in action.

Also, learn speed control and throttle control. If you find yourself sliding into walls when you enter the drift - you are going to fast. If you find yourself sliding into the inner dirt area of the track - you are going to slow. It's a balance between speed and angle.

Hope that makes sense and helps you out. Good luck!!

This too 👍

Alright i'll switch over to Comfort Hards. Do you think I could use a Silvia AERO w/ racing modifications?

If you can handle it, but I suggest you start out with something that can drift fine without suspension changes.

"Practice makes perfect." I suggest you use the E-brake to initiate your drift, and then DON'T apply power, learn to control that slide first, once you've done that, apply the throttle slowly and then feather it. Ofcourse, you should take into account your Power to Weight ratio. Everything is about balance. That includes your tune. Ideally all you really need is 200-350HP. anything above that is basically real-life pro-spec.

Get an Nissan S13,
Fully lighten it,
Air Filter + Manifold,
Suspension, lower it, Camber .5Front 1Rear
Diff, 60,60,5
Comfort Hards.

Get on Tsubuka with no driver aids, first get used to controlling little slides on exit and then build up to bigger and bigger slides.

Never apply full throttle for more than a few secs and if using controller never hold it in the direction you want, just use little dabs to control it.

If you want to practice, I'll set up a room and use the same car as you and you can watch and I'll show you when to apply power etc...

THIS.

and someone mentioned e-brake earlier - I personally am not a fan and its very easy to tune the cars to point that they'll initiate a drift without e-brake. Just my two cents though. I found that e-brake was hard for me starting out.

What I found worked for me at first - determine what entry speeds work for you. Try several different speeds for each corner till you have something you fell comfortable with.

Check the Drift tuning thread for settings.

Hello all, Im pretty much new to drifting I use the amuse 380rs w/ comfort hard tires. I've read a lot of the drifting forums n they have good stuff. I've been at it for maybe a week n I'm ok I guess. Want to learn more tho

Hi I am pretty good at drifting with a controller but when i got a dfgt amd tried drifting i always spin out. Is my car just not tuned right? It seems impossible to spin the wheel to catch the oversteer fast enough? Any help?
