Bentley Flying Spur beats Dodge Charger in a drag race, thats right it happened on Fifth Gear yesterday. The Charger had a bigger size engine and torque. but it still got beaten.

If the data off of Bentley and Dodge's websites are correct, the Bentley makes 480ftlbs (from 1600rpm to 6000rpm), while the charger makes 420 at an undisclosed rpm. The dodge engine is only marginally larger also.

Unless you are talking about an older Bentley or something.

And doesn't the charger have a 5.7? unless of course it was the SRT-8..then it has the 6.1 making 425HP and 420ft lbs with a 5 speed auto and RWD

552hp, 479ft lbs out of the Flying spur with a 6 speed auto and AWD

I'd say it's a pretty fair race considering how much the spur weights...but I'd believe the spur would win...

nothing amazing..

Um, I’ll save the $150,000 or so extra dollars I’d spend on the Flying Spur and put it towards a Charger SRT8 and a down payment on a house.

I don't think the charger on the dragstrip was stock. They said it had a 7.x litre engine. And it was a guy that dragged it all the time so it must have been slightly set up for it.

It was an old Dodge Charger with a 7.3L engine and it didn't look stock but it might have been, the organisers of the drag event thought the charger would destroy the flying spur so it was a bit of a shock when it won.

They said the chargers torque was so powerful the suspension was stiffer on one side to stop it rocking, I don't know weather or not it is like that on a stock charger or not though.

Sage always thinks logical.
So uh, do you need a napkin for the brown all over your nose, or for the utter crap that spewed from your one-sided mind and out of that ass-kissing mouth of yours?

Lets see...
I've already considered such a paradoxical comparison between the two dissimilar cars very much hypothetical. Its a fantasy-driven assessment. They're two highly incongruent vehicles, built for completely opposed reasons.

One is a British ultra-luxury car, and the other is merely an American sportscar, hence the seemingly cosmic differences in MSRP, power/torque, and sheer immensity.

Every person is entitled to their opinion in relation to the topic. But to call someone logical because he'd perfer a cheap (by Bentley standards anyway) sportscar over a luxury car is foolish, and rather offensive to those who appreciate the highly prestigous craftsmanship and innovative luxuries Bentley includes in their sedans.

So I suggest we quit the biased, spam, lap-dog remarks and really assess the situation more logically/sagaciously than Blackbird and not potentially flame guiltless people with differing opinions.

Adverbs are your friend. :)

I agree with Fao, these two cars were built for different purposes and it really makes no sense in comparing them. Not to mention they are in totally different price brackets.

Easy there lad.

I didn't see it as a biased, spam, lap-dog remark. Or a flame.

Why attack members when they are just having fun banter with their fellow posters?

Because Blackbird contributed something that could be viewed as a flammatory/biased/kiss up remark. It's like him saying, "The Charger is the best choice, and you're horribly stupid if you even consider a $160,000 Bentley over a Charger."

Its not usually something viewed through my perspective, but it really irks me when somebody throws a hardly benefitial opinion (if you want to even consider it as being an opinion) into a highly controversial comparison such as this.

Ok Im confused, was the acceleration test between the Flying Spur and a new Charger or the old Charger?

Jacks
TVR and Ferrari fan didn't make it very clear, I could see people where getting confused

Yes I saw that and thought "ah old Charger" then I read on and saw talk of comparing MSRP like it was a new car. Thanks for the clear up.

I think I would also not buy the flying spur but I sure as hell wouldnt buy a charger neither. Id go for the M5 and spend the rest on hookers.

I video's 5th gear and have been watching it for thelast 50 mins, that Charger I had big dragster slicks on it by the look of it too..

I dont see why people care so much that a bentley won. Look at the age difference of the cars and any bentley owner will never see if his bentley does indeed do the 0-60 time as stated by the manufacturer.

Won't they? Are you sure about that? Becuse you do tend to see people driving cars like the Bentley GT quite hard. Maybe not so much in an Arnage but GT's do get pushed.

Nothing new about Luxury cars that accelerate quickly....the 6300-lbs. / 2800 kilo Maybach 62 will do 0-60 in less than five and a half seconds, stock. That's faster than plenty of "sportscars."

I agree that the comparing the two is relatively impractical, but there was no reason to jump on Blackbird like that.

....Or you could not get either..because 1 costs alot(bently)..And the other looks like a giant automotive pig nosed joke on wheels..(charger).

charger = lowest of the low in terms of american performers...Hell I'd take the new impala SS over this ugly azz boat

I thought it was very appropriate. He basically called anyone who would perfer the Bentley over a Charger stupid.

No he didn't. He didn't say anything like that.

No he didn't and I don't think we need to mention this anymroe really really. He said Sage thinks logically, Sage talked about the cost involvment and what he'd get with the saved cash if he got the Charger. Theres no your stupid if you........ anywhere in either of thoes posts, if I had just enough to buy the Bentley and had no choice but one over the other, I'd do the same as Sage, but if I had a lot more money, I'd buy the Bentley. If I could choose any car, I'd have neither.

So basically, you were angry at Sage for stating that he'd take a Charger and use the change for something else, which apparently is an idea you hate with a passion. However, for fear of risking your membership by insulting a mod, you decided to insult a premium member instead, claiming that he was an *** kisser, alluring to the presence of **** on his face, and putting words in both his and Sage's mouths, claiming they referred to anyone who disagreed with them as "stupid"......

I'm not surprised considering the Flying Spur is the fastest production sedan at what? 218Mph?

Though this is a drag race....I'd still take the Bentley though.

I think someone needs to take a few aspirins and have a little lie down. Your entire response was totally out of left field.

Isnt there some AMG sedan that has hit 220mph.

Well not standard but If you want 800hp from a AMG they will do it for you. They once said that producing power is not a problem at all for them they can make past 1100hp on most of the amg models its just tyres that are holding them back now.
