I'm looking for a classic car for 10mil credits or less.

Right now I'm torn between the Alfa Romeo TZ2 and the Ferrari 250 GT paso corto (SWB), but do you guys have any other suggestions? (like the Sherby Daytona Coupe?)

[EDIT: CURSE YOU AUTOCORRECT!!!]

The Alfa is great for chucking some racing soft's on, firming up the suspension and whacking some kerbs for some two wheel action. More often roof side down when I do it but I've managed a few seconds down the road. The steering is backwards when you're on two wheels and seriously tricky.:D

If you like to look after your cars, I don't recommend doing it. Expensive restoring the car.

As for classics, it can only be Italy. They cornered the market on style.

The Alfa definitely, but then I would say that!!! The Ferrari 250 is pretty awesome too. However the Ferrari Berlinetta (can't recall its proper title) with a great tune (I think Exeter Tuning have the one I use) is fantastic and less than 10 million!!

If you're not bothered about lack of interior, try a Jag XJ220. If you want value for money, get a Europa S2 - bloody cracking little car for 30k.

Wait a second... Couple noob questions

I've never had to restore a car before, so does hitting a wall or something like that lead to the need for a restoration?

And how much would it cost to restore the Alfa?

If you don't use it in career mode, seasonal events or online races, any damage done shouldn't save. So, you can use it in arcade or online free run without consequence.

In terms of performance (lap times) the best sub 10m credit classic car is the Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe at 4.5m. Great cockpit and good sound - switch off the HUD and race round Spa or Mount Panorama at night in this one. I ran a race series for this car and it was very popular with all the racers - we ran it tuning prohibited as it handles so well on stock settings. For some reason you can't fit a driver number to this car which is a major pain for racing - it comes with a blank white roundel. This might not be important to you, but to get greater authenticity - repaint it in the Shelby team colour of Guardsman blue metallic which you can get by buying a Cobra 427 or Tartan red from the Mini Marcos - this makes it red with white stripes like the Scuderia Filipinetti car raced at Le Mans in 1965.

The Alfa Romeo TZ2 at 10m is a 1600cc 4 cylinder and therefore doesn't have the performance of the bigger engine classics. It is a lot of fun to drive, but has no direct competitors in the game. The grip level is unrealistically high - it should be the same on corners as a Ferrari 250 GTO, but comparatively it corners like it's on rails. Remove all the downforce for a more realistic drive. Great cockpit view, good sound and due to the high cornering speed can be raced on low grip tyres. Sadly it cannot be painted in GT6 (it could in GT5 which made it good for one make racing). The race number can't be changed.

The Ferrari 250 GT at 7.5m is a great classic - great history with great results at Le Mans in 1960 and 1961. It can be tuned to give the same performance as the 20m credit 250 GTO. Therefore much better value than the GTO, also you can change the driver number for racing. Looks good in yellow.

Much cheaper, but some of the best classic cars in the game to drive are:

Renault R8 Gordini - it's rear engined like a Porsche 911 and feels absolutely fantastic - one of the best cars to drive in the game and great tuned to 500PP. Great interior with plenty of vision - perfect for Sierra track. I think this one is about 100k. One of the stars of tarmac rallying in the 1960's. Sadly can't be painted or have a race number fitted - bizarre as it is a race car.

Renault Alpine A110S - as above. One of the stars of tarmac, dirt and snow rallies in the early 1970's. Can have a number and be repainted.

One of the worst cars to drive in the game and therefore thoroughly entertaining when you get it under control - Corvette C2 race car 1963 - sadly no interior, but the outside looks good. 725k, 629bhp as standard with an oil change - great fun completely stock round Deep Forest. Can't be repainted or have number changed.

You've probably already got a Shelby Cobra 427 - try the @praiano63 tune for it - absolutely fantastic!

Nobody mentioned the Ford GT40 Mark 1 yet, so I'll do that :)

It's great to drive, although it might take a little while to get used to the characteristics. It also looks great and has a few custom parts options that are interesting.

You can easily match the specs of the racing car version on automobile-catalog by getting a racing exhaust and stage 3 weight reduction (1004 kg, 385 bhp). Unfortunately the gear ratios listed there are a bit too close to be able to replicate in GT6, but an optional gearbox based on the the ZF 5-speed transmission that is used on many GT40s can be done:

1. Set final drive to 5.000
2. Set top speed to 220 km/h
3. Set the gear ratios:
  • I: 2.429
  • II: 1.611
  • III: 1.238
  • IV: 1.000
  • V: 0.846
4. Set final drive ratio (pick one of these: 4.500 / 4.222 / 4.000 / 3.778 / 3.556* / 3.400** / 3.222)

(* Will give a top speed of 300 km/h with Racing Soft tyres)
(** Will give a top speed of 300 km/h with Comfort Soft tyres)

Gotta give some American cars some recognition, of course the Daytona Shelby, Pontiac Firebird, Shelby GT350 and the Chevrolet El Camino. I absolutely adore these cars! I normally use my wheel with no aids comfort tires and HUD off, it's a lot of fun

If you don't already have one, try spending 1,000,000 on a Plymouth XNR Ghia Roadster '60. Great looking car, with one of the best cockpit views (IMO: I find most cockpit views to be 'claustrophobic'). Three speed gearbox only, but the gears run pretty long, unlike most of the U.S. classics. Can be used to take an easy win in the latest A-Spec Beginners Seasonal event at Daytona, and a lot of fun to drive. 408pp. Can be painted.

Agreed 100%. We're currently racing this car and using it with the optional metal tonneau cover over the passenger seat, which makes it look a lot more racy - shame that inexplicably yet again PD don't give the option of fitting a race number. Here's a shot of the interior taken during one of the races.

Great pic, Sick Cylinder. An optional cover, you say? Oh, I guess I may just have to buy another one of these cars for my garage then... one more wouldn't hurt. :)
