hi guys I'm new to GT6 and I rarely win online race in the 550pp race (road car)
can anyone tell me what car(s) i should buy in this range to at least be competitive in the race?

I'm using Elise'11

thanks!!!

I'd recommend the Lamborghini Miura. It's ridiculously good, and it's what I won 95% of my 550PP races with in GT5.

There are several good ones, one that I like a lot is the RUF 3400S
That odd looking Mazda is really good as well, RX500 or whatever its called.
The Elise is also a good one.

Of course the track being ran is a factor as well, some cars will be better on grip tracks and others better on speed tracks.

thanks guys for the recommendation, really appreciated!!!
so up to now MR/RR cars are more preferable, waiting to see more personal experience / comments from other online racers!

To a beginner like me, I think RUF and RX500 are very difficult cars to handle in a race….

Really? I think the RUF 3400S is one of the tamest cars in the game and does very good. Don't confuse it with the BTR which is a nightmare on wheels or that squirrely Yellow Bird. The 3400S drives very nice. I had no issues with a stock tuned RX500 either, I used both cars in the Willow springs race and both did very well

I like the BMW M5 '08. With a decent tune I think it drives great.

Here's the tune I'm using at 550pp:

Yes you got me! I was really thinking the yellow bird experience…….total frustration, i haven't tried the 3400S though, will give it a try later, any decent tunes on this one?

RX500 does have weird look, anyway, a frequent car that I always see in many online races….

I hate the 3400S, it understeers greatly then snaps into oversteer.. A boxter should handle great mine is a pos.

BTW how is the Miura vs the Countach? I always think about using the Miura but when I look at the specs its down on the Countach... I really should just test it lol.

I haven't done a direct comparison Miura vs. Countach, but if I remember correctly the Miura has handling and top speed on the Countach despite the low horsepower. The low weight greatly helps.

I asked my quickest friend, who does ca 6.46 races round the Ring (550 sports soft, real grip, normal wear, standing start, no SRF of course) in a lot of cars, what is the quickest. He said Ferrari GTO and Ford GT40, though I don't think he is any slower with the NSX or LFA or Enzo. I do those times in my MP4-12C too, so I was glad he didn't say McLaren..

NSX Type R '02 is probably my best handling 550pp car, 10,000rpm and 50:50 weight distribution :mischievous:

I really like my M3 GTR at 550pp as well, more enjoyable than an M5 I think

You pretty much nailed it, from my experience I'd say those 5 are the fastest premium road cars at 550pp not including Miura nor RX500 for being absolutely ridiculous and not really road cars (one's a prototype and the other a concept). Audi R8 and MP4-12C are top tier too but I don't really like them xd. Other really fast premium cars on the Ring would be the Gallardo, RX7, RX8, Evora, 458 Italia, Diablo GT, M5, Countach LP400 and Esprit V8.
I haven't done much testing on standard cars because I just can't live with the black cockpit anymore, but I think the Series One and the Zonda might be top contenders too.

And of course if we talk racing tyres the whole scenario changes, some cars like the Ford GT40, Lotus Evora and Diablo GT become undrivable while others like the Spyker C8 and the Shelby Cobra become surprinsingly quick.

You should really try to bring the NSX to a more rear-biased weight distribution like 45:55. It might cost you a few crashes at the beginning but you'll find it is faster once you get used to it, better standing start due to the extra traction and more nimble through the bends as long as you are smooth on the wheel.

Really? I haven't experienced that, perhaps a little understeer. I drove it around the ring bone stock and it was great, no issues at all and laid down a pretty good lap in it 100% clean. I modified it slightly up to 500PP for the Willow Springs race and it was even better. Can't remember exactly what I did to it, probably reduced the weight a bit and adjusted the suspension to reduce/remove the understeer.

I also find the S2000s to be very good when setup properly.

I didn't know "my friend" is around here too! Hi gon ;) So if you ask me, @claudiorz is the expert you are looking for, folks.

And while we are talking @claudiorz: Are the Miura and the RX500 really that bad? How come I never lost to one of those? Didn't see you either?

Thanks for your compliments lukas, much obliged :O

Yes, they are truly outrageous. I haven't driven them since my racing soft days, but I remember being 6 or 7 seconds faster with the Miura in the 24h layout of the Ring than with my fastest road car at the moment. As for the RX500, I've never used it online but when I tested it I managed to beat my online record with the Miura in my first full lap after only 20-30 min of tweaking it . Maybe they aren't so ridiculously quick on sport tyres, but I wouldn't count on it xd

It's true that you don't see them that much in online lobbys, maybe people know how overpowered they are. When hosting I've only come across one guy using the Miura and he changed it without complaint the moment I asked him to.

Yes, I remember those Miura times back in January. But I also remember what v6 did with an NSX back then already. I couldn't keep up back then while now, at least on sports soft, I don't fear NSXs. There were several physics changes too. I'd be interested if they are still that much better. Especially since those others cars named seem to be very close at 550PP at Nordschleife.

Your wish is my command!

My personal best online around the Nordschleife with the aforementioned settings (550pp, sport soft tyres, normal tyre wear, no aids except ABS, real grip, standing start) is 6:43.2 with the Enzo. After only ~20 minutes of fiddling with each car, 6:39.9 in my first full lap with the Miura and 6:42.3 with the RX500.
I struggled a little with the latter due to lack of traction in certain situations and didn't manage a good lap, but I'm confident I can shave off at least 1 second with the Miura and maybe 2 with the RX500 without too many difficulties. So as you see they are still ridiculously quick, especially the Miura.

Thx for testing! So ca 5 sec, this indeed sticks out. No reason to ban them in the hands of an average racer though, in GT5 that difference wasn't unusual.

Nice Enzo time! I gotta find some time...
Given how few people online can do better than 6.53 these days... Differences between players seem way greater than between cars. I remember the danish host from the weekend who was talking about "broken" cars until you put down a lap in the Lotus Esprit he was using, lol. At Nordschleife the driver makes the difference.

I have to disagree here. In GT5 the field wasn't as even as it is in GT6, but now we have maybe 20-25 cars within 2 or 3 seconds of each other, so I don't see a reason not to ban a car which is at least 4 or 5 seconds faster than the rest of them when you have such a broad spectrum of cars to choose from.

I noticed that too, it was perfect timing

YZF
full tune to 550pp, Sport Softs, Nurburgring GP/F (F1 track), no aids, TC OFF, SRF OFF, ABS 1

~max 5 laps with each car, took best lap time

Honda is still most badass among this pp range!

Yeah in this range it's good. However in the 500pp range and below, Elise '02 or '03 is very good. Maybe even better.

It starts lacking power when going up in the pp range

Add the 430 Scuderia to that list, just did a 6:44.888 with real grip and normal tyre wear. Can't believe I had never payed attention to this car before, what a cornering machine.

The Mazda RX500, as long as you consider it a road car (it's a concept car) is head and shoulders above anything else. Not a single doubt. Its ridiculously fast on both corners and straightline.
It even beats most of race cars.

Besides the RX500, the Tommy Kaira ZZII, the Mazda RX8 are very fast all round cars too.

For twisty tracks, the KTM X-Bow Street is amazing. For more fast tracks with a lot of straights, the Spyker C8 Laviolette is a rocket.

Speaking of rockets, the LCC Rocket is very very fast aswell, but its hard to control at the limit and hardly ever allowed on road car races.
