Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.9 diesel, a wierd nomination, but we recently got a brand new one and it's good, 6 cd autochanger as standard a/c and we've got over 65 mpg in it.
 
Flame, that starts at around 34000 USD. Which puts it out of the price range for this. Just an FYI
I'd have hoped after I pointed out that the 3 series fits within the rules that you'd take the time to check UK prices. It's not that hard to type in a manufacturer's name add .co.uk and then click about 3 times to find the base model price.

i cant believe theres no audi in that list, what about an '06 A4 s-line, prices from £20,000+, its safe enough for any family, im sure it has a 5 star ncap rating, its basically a poor mans S4 with the same handling package and similar body styling just missing the 4.2 V8, and its obviously available in a quattro version, a4 s-line gets my vote for sure

MSRP starts at $21,575 for the anemic 2.7 V6 SE, but the $26,580 3.5 SXT is a fairly good deal, and a Hemi R/T starts at $30,890, which is $890 more than the threshold price, but it IS close.

Also, you get a FR car, a deal only a few cars in the list have, and the BMW doesn't have the interior room. In fact, the SV6 Holden might be the only comparable deal to the SXT.

So, Nomination, Dodge Charger SXT. (Unless you'll allow the R/T Hemi...)
 
We get the basic for £20,000 and the sport for £21,500 at base prices. A rare benefit of living in the UK.


Yeah, but even at £20,000 that still works out as $38,000USD (even more than the US are paying ;)).

Acura TSX. Sporty, good looking, efficient, decent interior space, Honda build quality with Acura refinement, and starting at US $28,090.

Rule 3: Price wise, it can be anything up to $30,000 USD or it's equivalents in Europe and Australia, which I believe work out to around £20-23,000 (based on comparisons between 3-series and Vectra prices, your tax system makes things complicated, same with conversions), and about €25-27,000, and about $40,000 Australian (based on conversion tables). In a perfect world, we would be looking a nicely equipped models, not some stripper luxury ones.

Everything in the UK is more expensive currently, this is due to the unfavourable £:$ comparison.

We get taxed to high heaven over here, a £20k car would not cost the equivilent in US dollars in America because they don't pay the same ammount of tax.

Taxes here in America are pretty low on our new car sales. Usually you only have to worry about the "Gas Guzzler" tax. Most of my favorite sports-cars are exempt from the tax (Corvette Z51 and Z06, Porsche 997 Turbo), so it isn't too big of a deal for me. Sales tax applies in most places too, at least I think it does, so in some states you are going to pay a far-higher price than you would somewhere else for what is essentially the same car. But usually, where they get you are the various license and title fees, which confuse the hell out of me...
