theres no one song, or any series of songs that are great driving songs. depends on the situation. sometimes you're out for a slow sunday drive. other times your killing the apices on your favourite canyon roads. or, if you're like me, you're munching miles on the freeways and interstates, 4, 5, 6, or more hours at a time.

but let me nominate some excellent albums to listen to on a long road trip, which is the arena i tend to listen to music in.

in no particular order (but the first two are in any playlist i may compose for a road trip.)
babylon by bus- bob marley
legend- bob marley
the chronic- dr dre
the joshua tree- U2
all the number 1s- micheal jackson
the miseducation of lauryn hill- lauryn hill
black star- mos def and talib kweli (are)
reckless- bryan adams
someday my prince will come- miles davis
graceland- paul simon
welcome to jamrock- damian "jr gong" marley
sultans of swing- dire straits
greatest hits- elton john
voodoo- d'angelo
in between dreams- jack johnson
20 all time hits- james brown

and theres plenty more.

i prefer music where the whole album is a treat, one that engages you and takes you through its highs and lows while never letting go of your attention. that way, your brain doesnt fall into a lull, your concentration stays high, and you marvel at the creativity of the artist to so effectively seduce your psyche and attention, to lift you to the highest highs and take you to the lowest lows. babylon by bus is an amazing album in that regard.

i can add
live at the el ray - thomas mapfumo
nhava- oliver mtukudzi

but probably none of you have heard of them.

"Self-Preservation Society"

It might have a lesser effect when not driving a Mini Cooper 1275 in Enthusia, but it's an awesome song.

The Chemical Brothers - Everything Must Go

Great song which I forgot. It was in GT1.

It's actually by the Manic Street Preachers, although I'll agree that The Chemical Brothers remix is awesome, but I've never found it as a standalone track. It's part of a mix on "The Brothers Gonna Work It Out" remix album which I have on CD.

Some other good driving tunes with a motoring theme:

Born To Run - Bruce Springsteen
Crosstown Traffic - Jimi Hendrix
Ezy Rider - Jimi Hendrix

Depending on the type of driving I'm doing, I mostly like longer tracks, (> 6 minutes) that build and crescendo for the turns and calm for the straights.

One Perfect Sunrise - Orbital
It's All Too Much - The Beatles are prime examples.

Anything by Explosions In The Sky makes for amazing driving music on fun twisty drives.

For longer freeway trips I tend to prefer something lively that I can sing/screech/squawk along to to keep my mind active in relation to the dullness of the road (unless the freeway happens to be passing somewhere particularly scenic!)

Kashmir by Led Zepplin. If you time it right, you get the build-up at the light, and right as it hits the high notes, punch it.

Little Sister - Queens of the Stone Age

Makes me wanna drive fast and cut through traffic like a total ass.

Makes me feel like a pedophile, especially when my friend plays it while driving past a school. :scared:

On-topic: "Strobe" -Deadmau5

I tend to listen to
Highway Star by Deep Purple
Planetary(Go) by My Chemical Romance (GT5)
Panama by Van Halen (GT4)
Bang a Gong by T-Rex

When I am on my motorcycle it's all of those and The Weight by The Band because I love the movie Easy Rider or if I am on a long trip.

There is more but I can't think of any right now

Radar Love-Golden Earring

Panama-Van Halen

Kickstart My Heart-Motley Crue

She Sells Sanctuary-The Cult

Fire Woman-The Cult

Smash It Up-The Damned

Territorial Pissings-Nirvana
Added link because the album cover has some nudity in it. (You probably know the cover) Great Album though.

Sex Type Thing-Stone Temple Pilots

Zero-Smashing Pumpkins

Bullet With Butterfly Wings-Smashing Pumpkins

Enjoy GTPlanet! A lot of these songs have been featured in GT games.

How about songs to slow down and feel cool driving in town to?
Or a casual cruise along the motorway?

Being of the younger among this forum, I nominate Empire State of Mind by Jay-Z
