Ahoy Squirts! Its that time again!

First things first, vote for the Best Family Car. The finalists are:

- Honda Accord
- Ford Mondeo
- Subaru Legacy
- Nissan Maxima

Please vote, and then nominate for the following category:

BEST FULL-SIZE CAR

So as I've understood it, there may be a bit of confusion here for our foreign friends not of American or Canadian origin. Full size cars are those that are one-up on the "average" Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Ford Mondeo, Opel Vectra, etc. Target cars in terms of price and size are going to be models similar to the Chrysler 300, Citroen C6, or even the new Vauxhall VXR8. I understand that the term executive car is sometimes used, however, I'd prefer to keep the "standard" luxury marques (BMW, Lexus, Mercedes, etc) out of the competition...

Price limits are as follows:

- £40,000
- €45,000
- $45,000

Remember, please keep the major luxury marques out of the equation. Also keep in mind we're doing blanket model nominations, and that these must all be MY06+

So, this one is a bit harder for me to pick for. There are some really good choices out there, and I think some are quite a bit more obvious than others. It was hard, but yeah, I think the choice is pretty obvious:

The Holden Commodore SS

Lets be honest, whats better than a full-size, V8-powered sedan with plenty of luxury and sport options made available at a reasonable price? For right around $30-35K US, we'll be getting the Pontiac G8 GT, the direct-descendant of the Commodore SS, nearly identical in price to the actual Aussie model.

With the car being screwed together tighter than most things American or European, build quality is pretty darn good, and when combined with the excelent performance from the various V6 and V8 power options, the Commodore turns out to not only be a great car... But Car of the Year in Australia for 2006.

In my mind, it doesn't get much better than the Commodore. Its just the right size, with the right look, and American-power to boot. The only thing thats better is indeed the tuned-up HSV versions, or moving up a bit, obvious and outrageous uber-sedans from Germany. But lets be honest, its more fun kicking-ass in an Aussie car...

Yeah, I'm sticking to my old votes... :D I don't think I have to restate why I pick the Accord. I'm thinking about getting a older V6 coupe for a little under 4 grand. 👍 Then again, I want every car...

Got to be the Accord.

Well made, comfortable and spacious, V6 is plenty powerful,
and unlike the other three finalists, it looks cool for a family car!

Let me nominate this since I can't nominate the 2007 A6 which is the best saloon ever:

2007 Hyundai Azera
asset_upload_file27_1600.jpg

$27,335 gets you the top model from the factory. For $24k you can have the 3.3L V6 233bhp engine from the Sonata or the fabulous 263bhp 3.8L V6 starting at $25k. That is incredible value. It has some serious interior space--and even more so than the 7-series BMW or so I've read somewhere. The 3.8L gets 19mpg city and 28mpg highway which isn't bad for an engine of that size. And keep in mind those are larger US gallon ratings!

Take a look at this comparo: http://autos.yahoo.com/newcars/comp...=20869&carid0=21524&carid1=21248&carid2=18892

Better warranty, more MPG, cheaper to buy and own/run, friendlier to the enviorment, and has mostly the same options standard as the other three I've chosen.

0-60 times--this is where the Hyundai loses. But I put this here to put it into perspective, the Hyundai is half the cost or more than half the cost of the other three and has a smaller engine--all things considered I'd say the Azera isn't bad in the acceleration dept. for the price.

Azera: 7.4s
750i: 6.4s
S550: 5.6s
LS460: 6.0s

Good choice JCE3000GT! Hyundai's are under rated, I don't know why. They have good cars, but they just get turned down for some reason, just like Volvo. The Hyundai Santa Fe beat a Land Rover in almost every area. Thier car's gas mileage aren't too shabby either. Let's compare the gas mileage to a Ford Mustang, or Dodge Charger, which I'm sure that they suck in gas mileage, with or without MDS. :) (Or is it another car from Dodge with MDS? Shut's off 4 cylinders to improve mileage, or is that the chevy Impala SS?)

We should establish a minimum size requirement as well as a price maximum (4850mm? It allows the Volvo S80 to slide in.) so we don't end up getting Accord competitors.

Oh, and Toyota Avalon, only because the Acura RL was banned by $750.

Hmm.... Best Full Size car?

I'll have to go with the.... Dodge Charger SRT 8. :sly:

2006-charger-srt-8.jpg

For $36,000, you get 400+ hp, a great sound, better interior than that of the crap tastic base models, and looks that could kill.

-> I voted for the Accord (it doesn't matter if its the Euro Accord {aka. Acura TSX} or the Pacific Accord {aka. Honda Inspire or US version}), the car has the terrific blend of everything. (:

I nominate this Full-Size Car:

HSV GTS Sedan '08
hsv_gts_eseries.jpg

^ This is the best all around car. I know its similar to the US-bound G8, but I think the G8 is a detuned, roly-poly version of this piece of machinery. And it looks like its ready to eat a lot of SVT Mustangs. And I think that the Charger SRT-8 is a little bit overrated, the 300C version of the SRT-8 was a laughing stock at Top Gear. Plus it doesn't offer a manual tranny, which it kinda sucks in a manner.

(:

The Commodore SS has already been nominated. If I'm up on my Australian, the HSV GT-S is just a normal Commodore SS-V turned up to 11.

Yes, the GT-S is just a hyped-up Commodore SS-V with the LS2. All of the other models do with the L76 V8, however, our American models will have cylinder deactivation and will be able to run on E85.

...And to further elaborate on the question of cylinder deactivation, both the Charger/300 with the HEMI have it, as well as the Impala SS and the Grand Prix GXP with the LS4 V8. The Impala and Grand Prix are good for 28 MPG if I recall correctly, and the Chrysler twins are not too far behind. Both are better than the Mustang GT if I recall correctly.

In terms of size requirements, we want to go for the range around the Chrysler 300 or the Toyota Avalon, or something near that. If we were to use the Impala as a pretty moderate size example, we'd be looking at about 200in in overall length, or a wheelbase of around 110.5in or more. In terms of engines, V6 and V8 power is a must, diesel or petrol. Price limits remain the same as well.

...Please keep in mind as well that we're nominating models, not trim levels, so going for the Charger SRT-8 means you've nominated just the Charger itself.

Skoda Superb. It's an executive Skoda!
skoda-superb.jpg

I've nominated this car simply because it's so absurd that Skoda thought they could sell an executive car!

Or is it. After a recent bout of underage drinking I had a lift home in a Skoda Octavia. Now if that is the lower model then I can only presume that the Superb is better. And also, bare in mind that the Superb is actually a A6 under the skin, and badge.

P.s. I know I'm never going to nominate a winner, but I'm just trying to broaden a few minds.

The C-Max can't touch the Roomster, simply because the Skoda is called "Roomster." Best obviously-made up-word since fhqwhgads.

How is the Accord beating the Mondeo? The Accords alright, but the Mondeo as mundane as it's reputation may be, is simply a better car.

I'll have to mull over the best full sized car, there's a lot to choose for £40k.

BTW 👍 YSSMAN, it seems you've taken each market into account individually rather than the simple $45,000 = £27,500.

I'm most disappointed in James, I really thought we'd have all the Brits backing in the vote for the Mondeo.

I'd also like to point out that if Danny nominates the Vel Satis I think he should be banned. Forever.

Oh damn, I just remembered the "new" Mondeo... I kept comparing the older one with the others there... :dunce:

Even the older one was better than all it's competition overall.

Volvo S80, I think it's a pretty good looking car and I've never driven or been in a Volvo in recent times I haven't liked. I've never driven an S80 but I have been ridden in one, I would like to drive one though, especially the V8 one.

Although I attempt to be as objective as possible, I'm rooting for the Mondeo in this one. No matter how much I may like the US Accord, I like the Mondeo I've never seen a lot better...

[whisper] The secret is to find a car that is sold in the US and the UK and compare the prices. Because the Dollar and the Euro are pretty similar, I really don't take the change into account there (its a $0.20 difference if I recall). Lately, the safe bet is to pick a price in the US/EU and then cut 5-7K off for the UK price. [/whisper]

Agh! I didn't get to vote! I've been off for too long!

From the looks of the voting, I couldn't have changed it, anyway. Oh well.

Am I the only one who noticed that we are going into the next vote with 1 more nomination than this round had in final nominations?

Yeah, I'm going to give this one a bit longer. I would LOVE to have a few more cars. Otherwise, I may just stick a few in there...
