What are you talking about? :odd:

Just thought I would throw this into the subject, taken from the Bathurst 24hrs website. The outright winners (1st and 2nd place) of the group E cars were two Celica's

'Two near-standard Toyota Celicas have finished first and second in their class in the grueling Bathurst 24 Hour race last weekend.

The 1.8-litre Celicas beat cars with engines as much as three times larger, due to superior handling, braking and reliability.

The winning Celica took out Class E by more than nine laps.

Both road-registered Celicas were driven to Bathurst and then back to Sydney after the race on Monday, none the worse for wear.

In 24 hours of racing at maximum revs, the Celicas’ twin-cam engines used only 250ml (a quarter of a litre) of oil each.

The Celicas used the same brake pads throughout the race and needed just two replacement front tyres each to complete the round the clock marathon.

Car owner Colin Osborne, who shared the winning Celica SX with John Roecken and Trevor Keene, said the cars required little more than refueling during the race while their rivals replaced components regularly.
The class-winning Celica completed a total of 2708.87km – the distance between Melbourne and the Cape York Peninsula – in the course of a single day.

It completed 436 laps of the daunting Mount Panorama circuit at an average speed of 112.62km/h.
Apart from mandatory safety equipment, the Celicas only differ from those on the showroom floor in having minor suspension and exhaust modifications. They also use racing brake pads.

“The cars are close to standard and we basically didn’t touch them during the race,” said Mr Osborne, who won last year’s Australian Production Car Championship outright driving the same Toyota Celica SX.

“The Celica was one of the smallest capacity cars in the race so we lost a bit of ground to the big V8s going up the hill, but we were blowing the other cars away in the twisty stuff across the top of the mountain.

“It’s just amazing to use only a quarter of a litre of oil in such a demanding race and we finished without a scratch, so the car is basically ready to do another 24 hours.”

Osborne Motorsport is an amateur team, using only volunteer helpers to prepare the Celicas and tend them at race meetings. '

Group E at the 24hrs consisted of the following

Honda S2000
Toyota Celica SX
Honda Integra Type R
Holden Commodore VX SS
Ford Falcon BA XR6 Turbo
Alfa Romeo 156 GTA

A very impressive result given the competition and a damn fine race to watch (even if I did have to watch it at 3 in the morning)

You said "drifting owns all" sounds gay and we are talking about FWD cars so that's why I'm saying ass dragger. That and it just sounds good.

Agree!! hate nascar!!! :banghead: The celica is nice but i rather have my type R another 1.8 L car that can also whoop cars three time the size. The JDM Honda Integra Type R are faster than celicas mostly but around a track for 24 hours i dont know.

SAME!!! i dont see the pint in nascar..... its fun when ur driving but not watching.... to boring... rather watch my hot wheels go... whwoohwhwhhwaaa:trouble:

i dont know if this is the case for group e (probably not), but let me point out, most of the races in the usa where the fwd cars can hang with the rwd cars (usually bmws in front) is because they are allowed to be much much lighter. it seems it is artificially evened out. just something ive noticed. whenever i talk about how rwd is superior, they poinnt out how fwd cars are running up front with the bmws.

Just like drag racing... any "idiot" can drive in a circle for 4hrs. but can you drive on a track for 24hrs. ?? Now that's racing!

before u ask me that question.... can u drive for that 24rs???

First off NASCAR is racing, you try it and tell me. I'm a big NASCAR fan.

Neh, since Dale Earnhardt Sr. died, I never watch NASCAR that much (lack of interest), I'll rather watch F1, even though I'm not a fan of open-wheeled racers.

Ok I wasn't directing that comment to you so let me re-phrase it...

24hr. race is a better definition of Real racing.

I also like LM's especially the Prodrive Ferrari F550 kicked the butts of the two C5R's. And the new Bentley EXP 8 beat the Audi R8.

So you like the Speed Channel Touring Car Challenge, hmm, I watch it few times and it was ok. But if you like Touring Cars, I recommend you to watch FIA TOCA, its the bomb compared the one earlier.

v8 supercars!

it stays close as nascar the whole race, on roadcourses. these cars are quick.\, incredible drivers.

Group E cars at Bathurst run the same regs as Class A, B & C cars from the Australian Production car championship. These three groups are based on power to weight ratios, this allows for a very evenly matched field. Class A cars are most competative (based on power-to-weight) with C being the lowest. The cars at the 24hrs fell into the following production car classes (remember all classed the same for the 24 hr).

Honda S2000 - B
Toyota Celica SX - B
Honda Integra Type R - B
Holden Commodore VX SS - A
Ford Falcon BA XR6 Turbo - A
Alfa Romeo 156 GTA - B

So no, FWD cars do not get an advantage and in this field the Celica was on paper one of the weaker entries.

If you like the V8 supercars try to catch any of the following:

BTCC (also known as TOCA or the British Touring car championship
V8 Brutes (Australian pick-up racing - its a lot better than it sounds)
DTM - German V8 Touring cars
Nations Cup - Ferrari Vs Lambo Vs Holden Vs Porsche in sunny Oz
British GT - TVR Vs Mosler need I say any more!

I gota say, the integra type r, the cooper s and focus rs are great, but none as fun as the integra, I have one so I’m not bias, ;-)
i have met both on the road and had little races with each, and i only got to see them in the rear view mirror , hehehe.

i have to go with Integra Type R (dc2, dc5) but i have to give it to the Spoon Civic Type R (Ek9, B16) gosh dangs red-lines at 14000 RPM... omg

I just saw 'Honda Tuning' magazine today, and Honda just made a Spoon Civic Type-R [EP3] for the BTCC.

Sweet!
