This will be a thread about which presenters of any ... Gear show. Includes Top Gear Australia, Top Gear US, the UK version (of course), and Fifth Gear.

No swearing, no total fanboy-ism ("Omg Fifth gear sucks a** top gear kciks its a** anydey cus its g*y!!!" and no racial slurs ("UK version is full of idiots, just like the rest of the country.")

You can select all of them, on the bottom. You can also vote for your favorite single host.

Note: The Stig is part of any "Whole cast" vote. You can also select the Stig as a solo host, or part of the whole group. I forgot to put Ben Collins for Fifth Gear, but hey, he used to be The Stig.

Have fun with the thread! :)

Top Gear UK cast. I just can't stand the US TG, no matter how much I try.

Top Gear UK cast. I just can't stand the US TG, no matter how much I try.

I usually see Top Gear UK on BBC America and most of the time, whenever it is on, I see Top Gear US on History. Whenever Top Gear UK has commercial breaks (just seeing Doctor Who ads for 5 minutes straight...) I usually go on to TG US. I watch it for one minute and instantly I go back to UK again, where as I have spent my other 4 minutes puking in the bathroom in disgust. Honestly, they feel like they are FORCED to do it, and why did they hire a racing driver to become a host? In Clarkson's own words,"No it's because racing drivers aren't interesting and are too boring and stupid to understand." I mean what were the nutsacks at History thinking?! :dunce:

I have to go with Jezza, May and Hamster. Those guys are in a world of their own.

Clarkson. He's just funny doing all the stupid stuff he does like when they were trying to make the VW commercial

You should have made this multiple choice.

I like the whole Top Gear cast, although Jeremy is my specific favourite. :D

James May. He's the most interesting, most intelligent and most naturally funny, and I strongly get the feeling that he's the least scripted of the UK trio.

As an aside, he's also the best writer of the three when it comes to magazine articles, and his independent TV programs such as "Toy Stories" and "Oz & James" are invariably excellent in their own right.

I do like 5th Gear though, and you missed Jonny Smith from the 5th Gear team list, who is probably best of the bunch.

I've not seen any episodes of the international Top Gears so can't comment on those lot.

I've gone off James May recently, every little point he makes in his independent programs turns into a long winded patronising speech. I lose the will to live by the time he finishes.

I voted Tiff.

I dunno. Some of his "motivational speeches" in the series where he makes giant stuff from toys are a little OTT, but generally he strikes me as very intelligent and articulate. I prefer a bit of good observation and intelligent humour to the more Clarksonian go-at-everything-as-ham-fistedly-as-possible approach.

May's Oz & James series are genuinely brilliant. In many ways, better than Top Gear, as they seem more spontaneous, which is what we loved about TG in the first place.

If you've not already, I'd definitely recommend reading some of his stuff in TG magazine, or if you can find them, some of his features in older TG mags. He's won writing awards on a few occasions and they've been fully deserved.

I agree, May is a fantastic writer and a very good presenter, Clarkson is funny and remarkable ( although his goofyness strips him out of any credibility  ). Hammond has his own moments of brilliance, but he is not on the same league of their colleagues.

Tiff and JP are incredible together, both are great drivers and incredibly funny, Vicky is straightforward and very competent. Johnny on the other hand looks like is always trying to be James May.

From the Top Gear US cast I believe Ferrara is the best one, he's not a real professional car enthusiast but he is the funniest, most natural and has the qualities of a great presenter, which the other two(specially Tanner) don't. Wood is a pretty good car reviewer, he makes reasonable points and is probably a great writer, but lacks some quintessential abilities to present the show, he doesn't feel at home yet, although he is getting better at each episode, as the show does. The second season is great.

Points earned for ditching the UK show opening theme and going for something more american too. 👍

I've never watched Top Gear Australia, but Pizzatti was quite funny in that short duel with the UK guests.

The whole Top Gear cast! I think they are funniest when they are together rather than individually. :)

Jeremy Clarkson is my favorite individual, however he is only made better when placed alongside the Hamster and Captain Slow. Voted for the TGUK Crew. 👍

Hard to pick. Tiff alone isn't great... but Tiff and Plato play off of each other very well.

Vicki is fine... she's a pretty handy driver, and fun to watch drive, as she genuinely seems to have fun on track, but she doesn't quite have the charisma of the TGUK crew inside the studio.

Clarkson is fun in small doses. Exhausting in others.

James May is brilliant. Simply brilliant. When you think of TGUK and how well it works, it's because he ties it all together. Richard Hammond is a bit manic and a bit of a goof. Clarkson is just... Clarkson. You need a straight-man like May on the show to call him out on some of the more outrageous (or completely wrong) things he says, otherwise it won't work.

TGUK for sure, but I can't decide between James May or Clarkson, May is awesome for this:

But Clarkson is always causing an exciting controvosey

Although I think the US cast should be, Adam Ferrara, Adam Carolla, and Jay Leno. Honestly, that would be a GREAT cast. They are all petrolheads, own numbers of cars, and are very interesting personalities.

But Clarkson is always causing an exciting controvosey

One of May's best TG outrages is when he gets mad about how Astons ditched the comfort and road style for sheer lap times at the Nurburgring. "Honestly, if I was in charge of the bombing raids back then I would have bombed the Nurburgring every single day over and over again!" Loved how Hammond quoted the boss of Aston Martin on the new V12 Zagato??? being signed off at the 'ring. James just goes berserk. Then the reference on the MP4-12C being tested at the TG Test Track. "You know why the McLaren is so comfortable? It's because they didn't test it at the Nurburgring :D" So, in review
Clarkson - Funny(75% of the time), goofy, controversial, POWERRR!!!!
Hammond - Childish - sort of, funny (60% of the time), small, the anti-Clarkson.
May - Most sophisticated (Series 17, bit less sophisticated), funny, factual, combines Top Gear (2 crazy hosts, 1 calm), filled the void, and of course, the funniest parts about him is when he gets lost or is too slow. Wins the used car challenges about 70% of the time.

Looks like you contradicted yourself.

+1 or whatever the cool kids say. I find myself watching anything James presents irrespective of what it's about.

Obviously the UK Top Gear. But I like James May I feel as if they don't show him as much but for me he's the most interesting to watch.

TG UK cast is good, but I voted for Clarkson specifically. That guy can get every ounce of performance out of every car he drives.

If by "every ounce of performance" you mean by the metric of "laughs per minute" and "tire-shredding-yet-ultimately-clumsy-drifts-that-more-often-than-not-end-in-embarrassing-but-entertaining-spins"... why... yes.

Or, as newspapers have recently reported, that much of the tyre-smoking isn't even done by Clarkson...
