Inspiron 8600 is known it reach 112 Degrees Celcius, cleaning wont help as it's an overall problem. :scared:

What do you mean by stability problems? Nothing unusual happened.
The GPU.

No fragmenting in games, so on so fourth? Hmm.

Well then I guess it's fine.. But don't expect to be having children anytime soon.

The thermal throttling on the NV40 (GeForce 6800 series) doesn't kick in until the GPU hits 120*C.

anything over 60*C is hot enough to make me extremely uncomfortable though. It would be advisable to clean out the gpu and cpu heatsinks whether it's giving you issues yet or not.

There's the service manual for the 8500/8600. Not sure how to clean out the GPU without seeing the bottom of the notebook, but the CPU is dead easy. Just take out the fan and blow out the heatsink from both sides. I do this on my XPS once every two weeks. It'll take you 5 minutes.

Even though it would only take 5 minutes to clean out, I just can't be bothered. That's what you would do because you are an expert. I'm just 14 so I'm leaving everything as it is.

In fact my Dad has a 7 year old Inspiron 7500 that's never been opened up. It's only being used for the internet and is what I'm using to talk to you. It was used for games but not anymore. There must be TONNES of dust in it.

It's as slow as hell. 650mhz I think.

lol. You can get away with it on a 650mhz PIII. You can get away with it for a while on the Pentium M too... it's still not very good for either computer tho. :p

Thanks for the advise though.

My Dad's job involves the latest software (he working on top secret stuff, satalites ect, *shhhhh*) so fingers crossed, he will buy a new computer every few years or so, so I shouldn't get too many problems.
