Best looking racing game ever, but...

I'm seriously worried about the small amount of cars on the track. I know nothing is for sure yet, but at the moment it seems there will not be more than 8 cars on the track at the same time, which sucks big time in my opinion. As you know, GT5 Prologue had up to 16 cars on the track. Now, taking away half the cars from a race is equal to taking away half the experience from a race in my book.

So, why have PD reduced the amount of cars in a race to only 8 instead of 16. Most likely because they have improved the graphics, added damage and added weather. As a result you get the best looking racing game (or simulator if you like) ever, but will it be the most exciting? I don't think so.

Again, nothing is certain, but if I recall correctly, no trailer or demo seen the last 6 months have had more than 8 cars on the track, so we'll just have to wait and see.

What's your opinion on all this? Do you prefer more cars on track before looks (as I do) or the other way around?
If it is only 8 cars, I don't see that as a problem. In terms of racing, your position is only ever one of three:

- You lead the pack, so everybody is behind you
- You are last, so everybody is in front of you
- You are mid-pack, so effectively have one car in front and one car behind

OK, I admit, those same scenarios could be achieved with just three cars on track at once, which would suck, but 8 cars is ample to give a sense of there being some actual racing action. If the game looks and sounds as good as it does already, that is something I am more than happy to sacrifice.

And remember kids, online racing is harder for a system to manage than offline racing. Kevin Butler says so. We're like... *this* or something...

Sorry, you're right. My bad. Now I come to think of it, games take a graphical knock when online to offline, so yes it must be more demanding.

I'm going to repeat, premium cars sport both types of visual damage. Exterior and interior. All cars sport exterior damage, premium cars have both.

The game isn't completely optimized yet, which explains why we aren't seeing full 16 car grids, also some courses are too short to have a 16 car grid make sense for a 2 lap race. 2 cars on Rally stages max, and the lowest for normal car races would be 8 cars I assume. Either way I can't wait to hit the digital road against you guys. I'll most likely be in a Saleen S7 👍

Nope, you're wrong: http://www.ps3center.net/news/4591/not-all-cars-in-gt5-will-have-a-cockpit-view/

Yep, and PD never goes back on their word with previously promised functionality. Remember online play for GT4? Mine has that. I swear.

In fact, I think that GT5 will have 25 cars on track at a time, as demonstrated in the trailer shown at E3 5 years ago.

There's no way they would ever have anything less. Just not possible.

Please let me know if my sarcasm and cynicism are not clear enough. I can try to polish it up

To all who says there is only going to be a maximum of 8 cars on a track at once, look at 0:51-0:54 of the e3 video. There is clearly 9 NASCAR cars in the shot at Indy.

Here's the video:

Now we can lay that little subject to rest.
Sorry, but you have to post a screenshot before I believe you. I for one, can not see more than 8 cars anywhere in the trailer.

Anyway, I'm glad it says "16 cars online" on the website, but I'm still holding my breath.

That's about the worst excuse to be happy with only 8 cars, but I respect your opinion.

You have to admit though, that this...

... looks a lot more fun than this...

I am worried as well. Because they would have a trailer and DEMO with 16 cars just like they Demo even before Prologue game. But they have still less then 5 months to work on it, so plenty of time to have 16 car race work.

What's the point in having a 2 minute demo with 16 cars? Even if you start in the middle of the pack, you'll never be able to overtake 8, if they drive halfway decent, and if you suck so bad, that you drop back 4 places, what's the point in putting another 8 in??

There's no way the number of cars will be below those of Prologue, i.e. 12/16.

It could be significantly less for the dirt-races like Toscana though, because dirt-clouds for 16 cars will be a challenge for the hardware.

Ok, I've been kind of negative the last 24 hours, but if there is a light in the tunnel it's this; IF there will be 16 cars on the track and IF all 1000 cars (with exception for the concepts) will have interiors and cockpit view, this will be the hands down most awesome racing simulator ever! Screw iRacing, screw rFactor, screw GTR and most of all, screw Forza! GT will be the king of kings this generation, period.

But that's IF... ;)
