i have a question but i dont know where to put it but i was going to check the best motoring forum to see if any new torrents were in and then i got an error message that i cant acsess it why what happened?

It was removed. It had escaped moderator attention, but the thread was totally full of links to illegal and pirated videos. This is a serious violation of the Acceptable Use Policy, so the thread has been recycled.

If I were you I'd stop stealing copyrighted materials, put a crowbar in your wallet, and buy the things you want to see. You should certainly stop talking about pirating materials on this site. Just for the record, here is the rule:
Acceptable Use Policy
* You will not use these Forums for the purposes of sharing or distributing viruses, licenses, registration information, software keys, pirated commercial multimedia files (such as ripped DVD's, CD's, etc.), "cracks", or other information designed to do harm to or allow unlawful access to any computer hardware, software, networks, or any other systems.
We're currently considering what to do about that thread.

Since it's on the topic, what is the policy regarding rips directly from the TV broadcast? I'd assume it's ok posting torrents to this sort of thing, since one could just as easily get a TV show by taping it.

Well, this issue is not one of the method of acquiring the original; it's more a question of distributing the copies.

You're perfectly legally allowed to tape Friends off the air for your own use to watch when you want to. You're not allowed, however, to distribute copies of those tapes, even for free. Copyright law is rather specific on this.

That's exactly what we're considering - the best way to put the good parts of the thread back.

Like the same with downloading music for free?

I mean, I've read that downloading and listening to music for your own enjoyment and maybe even just letting friends listen to it is ok, but to distribute copies of the song.

Music is different though. You can get free TV reception if you've bought a TV; you can't get free music reception if you've bought a CD player (radio is more like TV). Another way to look at it is that you can tape from a TV show or tape from a radio broadcast, but you can't copy and distribute neither DVDs nor music CDs, since the latter have to be bought, while the former are already out in the open for free.

No, downloading music from pirate sites is totally not OK, unless the music is in the public domain, meaning its creator(s) have agreed to offer it for free themselves or have forsaken copyright ownership.

It's NOT legal to steal music even for your own use. Where on earth did you hear that?!

Just a little FYI for everyone...the BMI dvd's are available through Columbia House DVD club. If you sign up, you can get 5 discs for .49 each and have to buy like 3-5 more over a few years. They have a total of 15 volumes, I think, including the Drift Bible. Just letting you guys know.

That's advertising 95nismo. Not allowed.

Well, not really; it's more of pointing out an alternative source for legally getting them. If HE was selling them, that would be advertising.

Thanks, thought.

I see. It's hard sometimes to tell if someone's advertising or not. I'm learning though.

No offense at all. You came up with a legal alternative to help out GTP members.

Well Done.

Yeah, just trying to give a legal alternative to getting them. Sorry if I offended.
Sorry for blurting out like that. :indiff:
