Best MP3 player?Music

I'm looking for one that doesn't have an HDD, seeing that my parents are reluctant in getting any of those. I've seen one that accepts flash cards up to 1GB, but I don't know, on something that is generally the size of two flashcards, smartcards, or anything along the lines of that, it'd be pretty hard to scroll through that much. That's why I'm asking, what is THE BEST MP3 player? I'd also like to know what's the best for under $300, and hopefully under $200. Thanks for your help!
 
The Rio 800 is pretty good, only $180. It has 64mb and a USB connector. Also look at the Rio Volt SP250 and iRiver SlimX. They're just like regular CD players but, you burn your MP3's on to CD-R discs and play them. No need for stupid Smart media cards or crap like that. Both under $200.

i got a Compaq PA-1 2-3 years ago, and that thing rocks on ice.
you can probably get it (or its replacement) for less than the original $250.
 
my rio volt SP90 is crap. yeah you can put 100+ songs on a CD, but you cant use it on its side, when its hot, when its cold, when its dark, when you're wearing a coat, etc... you get the point.

But doesn't the iPod use a hard drive? That's the only way I can think of them getting 10gb in the thing.

Also, I think I forgot to mention this, but I'm also looking for something that doesn't use CD's, just because they're too inconvienent when you don't want to listen to just one artist(I have more than enough music to fill up the 600MB on a disk, and that leaves 100mb for what? Misc? Then you still have no organiztion) so I could easily add/remove songs.
 
sony have a new dics man with mp3 player+are water ressistance
+40 second of anti-skip.( i think can play 64 hours with 2 AA bacteries,no sure about that)

is better,less expensive,just think on anytime you want make a collection of your favorite artis,group,music,etc.
what you gonna do by another 32/64 mb card (to much $$)

with a mp3 cd player just put another cd/r in your pc and thats it ( how much is this 50 cents for cd) ;)
 
But the problems that exist are the skipping and scratches, and also, CRDW's take too long. My favorite thing now are the sticks and cards.
 
Eh, the prices for cards will come down soon, but they're also smaller, so they can fit into pockets easier as well, which means they're easier to swap in and out as well.
 
Err, don't use your CDs as coasters and you'll be fine. I can't see much advantage to using a SmartMedia card over a CD except you can rewrite over them. For the price of one 64 MB card [40 bucks] you can get at least 100-150 CD-Rs.
 
Thanks for the suggestion, I think I've seen somebody on my football team having one of these, but he said it was a few years old. Here's a review I found on it, the only thing I'm really concerned about, other than the fact that it doesn't have a screen(which I understand, and would probably only get scratched up if frequently placed in pockets and stuff) is the "no rechargeable battery"

Does that mean that you shouldn't use rechargeable AAA batteries with it?

Just caught something EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!

I checked all the retailers I know(ebay, Best Buy, CircuitCity, etc), and they only have the 64MB version, so I checked on the links from ZDnet, and although they say 128MB in the specs, the box in the pictures STILL SHOW ONLY 64MB! I also went to CreativeLab's website, and THEY ONLY LIST 64MB MODELS!

So, either the 128MB models are scams, or they're 'delayed'...
 
Another followup:

I enlarged the picture from ZDNet's picture of the Nomad MuVo model, and it says 128mb on there, what's going on here?...
