Best Online Multi-player experience (with friends)

Hi all,

I recently realized that a lot of my friends that I talk to only once in a while owned PS3s. We have all decided to use online gaming to have more interaction with each other, and have fun. I can't wait.

I am looking for suggestions on the best online multi-player games that you can play with specific people (i.e friends). I know there are a lot of games out there that have great online multi-player, but dont allow you to play only with people you know. Any suggestions?

Ok, that really depends on what kind of games you like to play.
However most Online games have the option to play with / against friends only. It would be crazy not to have this ( like ,ahem, GT5 Prologue doesn't have this option included ).

My personal favourite is Resident Evil 5, it's only for up to 4 players, but it has many different modes and I had a lot of fun with them ( and still play sometimes ). It's just too much fun to kill (err, beat ) all those ego- shooter gameplay - style gamers who think the strongest weapons are always the best. ;)


As I said, it really depends what type of games you and your friends prefer tho.

Yea, I forgot to put in what kinds of games we usually enjoy. Back in the PS days of offline split-screen/2p gaming, we used to love playing SOCOM, NHL, FIFA and any squad-based shooter that didnt involve loads of running and gunning. Something that involved team-work is always fun to us, except for racing games ofcourse :)

I dont want to limit myself to traditional sports and shooter games however, because as we all know games have come a long way since the PS was released.
 
I have found Bad Company Battlefield 2 to be great fun. Headsets makes it all the better, but utilizing the Text Chat room within the PSN is a big win also (if someone doesn't have a headset). The new Onslaught mode is perfect for upto 4 friends since you can make it a private match. There are many other games like Midnight Club which I enjoyed playing with many members from this forum also. Ultimately I believe GT5 will be the best, nothing like running side by side with some friends at the track.
 
If you like third-person shooter, then you would like Uncharted 2 Multi-player online.
 
I'm just at the last chapter on uncharted2 now, and will soon gives its multi-player a shot. Battlefield BC2's onslaught mode sounds fun too. Will let u know what we settle on. I already have 4 people I know signed up to buy gt5....now THAT will be awesome.
 
The most fun I have online is with the CoD games, the main 3 ones (MW1, WaW, MW2) all vary in quality. MW2, all though a bit OTT is the one that most people play, and as such offers the best time. MW1 is a better game, and easier for newbies. WaW is still fun but not quite up there with the other 2.
Other's I can recommend are Uncharted 2 and Grid.
