Ive saved up a fair sum of 380.120 and tried out a few cars but none of them are faster than my Skyline Vspec 2.

its up around 1076 BHP and really flies but there must be something faster. problem is its getting older and its done so many miles, :odd:

Tried the Supra and the RX7 and had a quick go with a Viper but even pretty topped out they get embarased by the Vspec.

Anyone know of a very good preferably FR car that is very fast without being a race car, im struggling.

 Mage

why not try the lotus esprit turbo...you'll get 1000+ hp outta that and its fast...

or the zonda c12s....same type of power...

It's been said many times before: the Ruf RGT. With that kind of coin to spend, it will spank the Skyline pink.

Defiantely gotta be the Pitz!!! Performance what??? This car is the ultimate in Road racing performance. . . You definately gotta try this car out and it is cheap too. It definately has my dollar per performance backing :D

Yep, Ruf RGT or the Lotus Esprit 350.

These two in fully outfitted form will out perform most all AI.

Take off TCS and you wont believe the grip of the RGT. I have a 656hp RGT with no TCS or ASM and I can mash the throttle out of the slowest tightest turns.

I saw most people dont use TCS, is it used to stop wheels spinning by slowing the axle they are on? im not really knowledgeable on cars.

as for the RGT, it beats my skyline by 6 secs on Apricot hill. Doesnt feel as fast but must be faster.

rgt or esprit as already said.
or... try something with tunable downforce (this will prolly mean saving tho)

None of the above... both the ruf and lotus take skill to control and use to their full extent. I suggest getting yourself the cheaper of the two zondas.

The zondas have the super car geometry that really makes the difference. With the zonda you get the power of a 12 cylinder and the control of a mid-engined supercar.

This is of course just my suggestion, but thats what it boils down to.

If the zonda is just too much money for you, than there are a few others I want to mention.

First on that list would be the s2000... you can get serious handling and about 530 hp with a pwr of something around 2.0. (plus you get that 9000rpm range)

Then there is the vette... simple said, you can get serious hp and even better, serious torque from a great v8.

Finally this brings us to the rufs.

All three have unique charactoristics and cover pretty much the entire spectrum of racers...

First off, the 3400, great all around car. Flat out. (powerful, well balanced, fully capable)
Second, the rgt... kinda like a monster version of the 3400. Much more powerful and much more capable. However, this car really takes some major skill to work the full capacity of its worth... so unless your a real pro, avoid it until your capable of handling a highly powered, rear engine, rear wheel drive car.
Finally, the ctr2... this is your car if your into major power and limited control. Great for the player who only wants straight line power and loves to bump their way through the turns rather than actually turn the car for themselves.

Anyway, I hope this helps to some extent. (just remember, these are only my feelings and Im no big shot here, so good luck and take everyones advice to mind.) (btw, the cars listed will all easily carry you through the beginner and amatuer levels of races, pro level races on the other hand... your gonna have to use a few of the better choices mentioned throughout the thread... the lotus, the rufs, the zondas... the zondas:D )

later.

I'd beg to differ on the rgt kent. I have one maxed out to over 1000hp and it handles fine. it's all about settings... and even then its a no brainer to set up. :)
I love my rgt :)

Well I didn't say it was bad... only difficult to master.

Ha ha, that's so true! The CTR2 feels like it's front wheels lost their tires on the way to the track.

300k, eh? Well, I think the real question is, what level are you at in the game? No point in absolutely demolishing the competition if you're still in, say, Amateur League, because the you want to build up your racing skills for Pro League (excluding the British Cup, which is ridiculously easy).

no kent. I am but an amature at tuning, all i do with the rgt is lower it to near bottom stiffen the ride a bit and add some camber...

whalah! it done and ready to race.
it really is that easy with the rgt

But have you mastered it yet? The RGT does feel easy to drive without much tinkering with the settings and driving cntrol but it's amazing how much more it can do. Try a few tests on complex string and you'll just keep on improving your times.

Well I tell you what... lets just leave it at this...

We dis-agree.

I feel that a rear-engined, rear wheel drive car is harder to bring out the full potential of, than the mid-engined cousin.

Fact is, rear-rear= a greater likelyhood of oversteer, but a better ability to turn using that oversteer.

Plus your still acting as if I said it handles badly or is poorly balanced, when infact what I specifically said was... this car really takes some major skill to work the full capacity of its worth.

So, lets just leave it at what I said... we dis-agree.

You feel a rear-engine/rear-wheel-drive car is just as simple to control as a f/r or m/r. I dis-agree.

Then again, I could mention the fact that the highest level of time trial uses the rgt as the test. (which could imply that even the creators of the game thought of the rgt as a more difficult car to master, being that the test start with low powered cars and work their way up to the big racers and then the rear/rear rgt)

btw, I have not mastered it. (nor any car for what I can tell)

Then again, I should also mention that my bias may be steming from the fact that I am placing real-world physics on this question and not so much the world of gt.

I'll take that as a compliment :D

thanks!

In My Opinion, the best car that you can buy in Gran Turismo 3 is the Gillet Vertigo. Tune it right, and you'll be able to destroy anything that comes your way...

Well then, it's settled... :D Glad to see that, and you are welcome.

As for this one, while I agree... I also dis-agree. The vertigo is indeed an awesome car with the ability to take a player all the way through the game without trouble. However, I would have to dis-agree that it is untouchable. For a weekly race series participant I am suprised by your bad memory, I would think you remember a few weeks ago at tokyo when the vertigo could not keep up with the 900+ hp of a store bought castrol supra.

So, yes, the vertigo is a great car, but still has it's weakness's just like any other car.(besides those special few;) )
However, I also want to stress what an awesome car the vertigo is. (not intending to go back on my comments from just now, but...) The vertigo, IMO, is the road car which comes closest to full on F1 handling charactoristics... fully tune that sucker and  it can be just about anything you want it to be, and that includes a roller coaster.

yes the vertigo is one of the better cars... light weight and power. it has everything and is near untouchable but can be beaten

The 300zx is quite an impressive car if you know how to drive it properly, I love it to death. Mine is purple :D

The Mustang Cobra R is my favorite "buyable" car; I've done hundreds of miles with it and it's quite controllable bone-stock or even when fully tuned.
