well, more advanced susension, less weight and a block that weighs less translates into superior handling. of course a 350 can be one helluva engine, its a danged favorite because of its ease to hop up, but also because it really delivers when hopped up good. hell, even mildly, it is real powerful. We had a 1979 Nova with a 350, that had a holley carb and no more. it scooted like hell just pushing the throttle. my dad sold it to mu uncle and it saved his life. he was drunk and crashed. the car was a total loss. if he would have been in his rnault when he crashed, he would have died. poor car, but thanks to its resistance my uncle is alive today.

But, I don't believe that they came from the factory with the 427. I think that was a Yenko "Special" only.
Now I believe that a few Camaros got away from the factory with 454's in them.
And I know that the "other" F-Body ran a 455sd.
I used to love the Big Block cars. Then I drove a friend's '82 Camaro, with a 350. That cars stands in my mind as one of the most powerful, best handling cars I've been able to get my grubby mitts on.:D

COPO (GM's fleet ordering department) Camaros could be had with the vette's all aluminum L72 427 and L88 454.... Yenkos are just dressed up COPOs

Sorry to get technical here but the L-72 was an iron block and the 1969 Yenko Camaros had this engine. The 67 and 68 Yenko Camaros left the factory with 396s and were converted to 427s. All Yenkos were "double COPOs" because they also had the sports car conversion package which was COPO 9737. The COPO 9560 was the ZL-1 Camaro which had an aluminum 427. COPO 9561 came with the L-72 iron block 427. The L-88 was an iron block 427 from the Corvette.
