What sports car would you buy if you had:

$30,000
$50,000
$100,000
$500,000
$1,000,000

And why?

For me:

$30,000: 2011 Mazda MX-5. I love the car.
$50,000: 2011 Shelby GT500. Same reason as the first.
$100,000: This is a tough one, but I might just have to say Lotus Elise. Why? Super small, and can get a lot more power from it. The suspension and handling are already perfect.
$500,000: 2011 Lamborghini Murciealago SV. It is a beast of a car.
$1,000,000: No doubt: SSC Ultimate Aero.

Watch as I completely sidestep what was probably the thread starter's intent!

$30,000: 1993 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1.
$50,000: 1989 Porsche 930.
$100,000: 1999 Ferarri F355 F1 GTS.
$500,000: 2005 Porsche Carrera GT.
$1,000,000: I wouldn't spend that much to purchase any single car.

Interesting!

$30,000: My 2009 RX-8 :)
$50,000: Probably a used 2005 Maserati Grand Sport.....
$100,000: If I could find one... a used R8, if not, F355... ahhh beauty.
$500,000: Mercedes SLR McLaren.
$1,000,000: Ferrari Enzo.

Put me down for a Miata with a list of upgrades and modifications appropriate to each price range.

I was thinking of coming in here and posting exactly the same thing.

$30,000 = Ford Mustang GT - cheap power, good noise and great looks
$50,000 = Ford Mustang Roush - the same as above only faster
$100,000 = used SL55 AMG - class, style, luxury and speed
$500,000 = used Porsche Carrera GT - all of the above only more speed and more noise
$1,000,000 = Pagani Zonda S and spend the balance on a Ford F450 DRW (dually) with the diesel engine (upgraded/modded) sitting on 40" tires for the fiancée. Then take the left overs and buy an AMG Merc of some-sort. - duh

^$100k seems pretty steep for a SL55.

I'll have a go at it.

$30,000- Used Lotus Exige
$50,000- Ford F150 SVT Raptor
$100,000- Dodge Viper ACR
$500,000- Lamborghini Murcielago Roadster
$1,000,000- Imported Mercedes CLK-GTR

Just fyi, CLK GTR's are running for $1.2 million on average.

$30,000: Early MX-5 with a few suspension upgrades and better tires: ~8000. 1984-5 RX-7 with a mild drop, different wheels/tires, 13B NA 6-port with a bit of help to hit ~200hp. ~12000. V6 Mazda6 in good nick, ~10000.
$50,000: Series III Jag XJ6 with a Coyote 5.0, 6-speed, and 8.8" rear diff stuck in place of the Dana 40 originally hiding between a pair of brake rotors. If budget isn't used up yet, add turbos. Two of them.
$100,000: Noble of some sort. Not stock or at least not for long.
$500,000: Err.. Nothing appealing really... So this'd go to tools, lifts, etc. All of it.
$1,000,000: This would buy the house, the Garage Mahal, and the rest would go into savings/investments because I can't justify spending that on cars alone.

Good luck with the maintenance
I wasn't aware we were supposed to worry about maintenance in this hypothetical discussion about sports cars. I suppose I better change my answers then.

$30,000: 2010 Toyota Camry XLE V6
$50,000: 2 (Two) 2010 Toyota Camry LE V6
$100,000: 2 (Two) 2010 Toyota Camry XLE V6 and 2 (Two) Toyota Camry I4
$500,000: 16 (Sixteen) 2010 Toyota Camry XLE V6 and 2 (Two) Toyota Camry I4
$1,000,000: 32 (Thirty-Two) 2010 Toyota Camry XLE V6 and 2 (Two) Toyota Camry I4

Is that better? I'd even request them all to be painted beige to better suit the amount of excitement typical for the kind of person who worries that much about maintenance costs when talking about what sports cars they fantasize about buying at various price points.

$30,000:Ill take my car and drop a 3rotor into it with a list of other goodies
$50,000:Used Viper GTS because its awesome
$100,000:2008 Coupe Viper
$500,000:A Ferrari 512TR, Lamborghini Diablo, And A Dodge Viper GTS, Also a Imported Rx-7 spirit-R because thats just about all the cars that come to my mind when I think awesome
$1,000,000:A garage for all of them and every previous car listed throw in a 300zx,Ford GT and Corvette for good measure.

$30,000- 1990 Nissan 240sx with a Suspension done with a KA-T
$50,000- 2000 Honda S2000 Track Ready.
$100,000- Saving
$500,000-Other Investments
$1,000,000- Saving

Can you make a Miata cost $1,000,000?
Carbon Fiber body, Rotary Engine and tons of tons of stickers.

I just shot milk out of my nose, and I'm drinking whiskey, so explain that!

$30,000: New? Ford Mustang GT. Used? '02 trans-am WS6, with handling goodies, exhaust, and a cam.
$50,000: New? mmh...370Z NISMO. With tunes. Used? Um...'96 Viper GTS, I guess
$100,000: New? Nissan GT-R. and a Cube. Used? Can you still get Superbirds under $100,000?
$500,000: New? A Patrick Enterprises monster truck chassis, 572 Ford, and a tow rig. and there should be enough left over for a Hudson Hornet turned into a drift car.
$1,000,000: New? A fully custom, independent suspension monster truck chassis, with a self-produced Dual Clutch Transmission, a built Mercury Racing 1350, making 2000HP on methanol, and custom GT-R body. and a tow rig. and, if you leave out the now-redundant Patrick Chassis, everything else I've mentioned.

Put enough carbon fiber everything, engine, and aero R&D into it then sure, you can eventually have yourself a million dollar Miata lol. Might not look like a Miata at that point anymore though!

Put me down for that, but Miatas. And a suitable garage, once I have about ten.

-> I like this thread! :dopey:

Price - New (reason) | Used (resson) | other auto-related options

$30,000 - Ford Mustang GT 5.0 Base (good balance between confort and performance) | 2006 Pontiac GTO 6.0 (for the same performance as the GT 5.0, with a extra change in the bank) | Resto-mod my Subie GL, and fix up my S2K, & get me a clean AE86 and a DB2 Integra GS-R. :sly:

$50,000 - Subaru Impreza WRX STI hatch (practicality with performance to match) | 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP 6M/T (well duh, an anti-douchebag super sedan) | Get me a FJ Cruiser 6M/T, fix up my S2K, resto-mod my Subie. ;)

$100,000 - Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon 6M/T (butt kicking wagon without compromise) | stock Acura NSX-T 6M/T (NA2) or stock Toyota Supra TT 6M/T (who needs a euro sportscar when you have this one) | Same as everything mentioned above and get a clean NA1 NSX and a SVT Raptor. :dopey:

$500,000 - TBD | 1988 Porsche 959 (nuff said)| Everything mentioned above. Bring my S2K to Opera Japan to do an insane lightweight mod, and get 3 more S2K (each one in Europe, US {one stock & one Opera'd}, & Philippines.

$1,000,000 - TBD | TBD | TBD

For starters, I'm considering the average price of each car as if they were sold in their home country, no excessive third world taxing is built in my accountancy here:

$30,000 - A base level, blue 370Z, fair price($30,410) for a fair car.

$50,000 - Chevy Corvette Coupé($48,950), 430hp and a proper six-speed manual. You can't get much better than that.

$100,000 - Nissan GTR ($84,060). No further explanation required.

$500,000 - Alfa 8C, there are millions of better cars, but averaging a price of €157,629, this is my collector's dream. If I were a famous footballer, this would be my car of choice.

$1,000,000 - A Zonda F roadster. Why? Because you didn't gave me the chance to split this million into five, I would buy five other fantastic cars with this amount of cash... (ZR1, 458, Gallardo, R8 and Exige )

This is my list, assuming I had a load of extra money to insure, register and maintain them all.
(The Aussie Dollar is nearly 1:1 with US Dollar at the moment... so I won’t change the amount. 👍 )

$30,000: 1997 Porsche Boxster (Silver, with red leather interior). – Was one of my childhood dream cars from Porsche Challenge. And I still love the way it looks.

$50,000: 2008 HSV Maloo E series. – A very practical sports car, with a fuel efficient 6 litre V8. Looks and sounds completely mad.

$100,000: That’s an odd amount of money. I’d probably buy a ZZT231 Celica and an R33 Skyline, cut the two in half and make a widebody 4WD Celica on a skyline chassis. I’m sure it’s possible :)

$500,000: 2008 Aston Martin DBS. – I would normally choose a Vanquish over this, but I don’t think I could live with that horrid interior and dodgy gearbox. The DBS though has neither of these problems, and it has to be one of the greatest looking production cars of all time.

$1,000,000: Jeezus... Maybe a Pagani Zonda roadster.

Now... I'm off to the beach. 👍

As an FYI, Aston (briefly, at the very end of the car's life) made a Vanquish S without the sequential manual. There was a period of time (they still might do it) where you could pay Aston to swap the SMG out with a 6 speed in all Vanquish models, as well.

$30,000 - Homebuilt Locost with an LS in it.
$50,000 - Two homebuilt Locosts with LS's.
$100,000 - Four homebuilt Locosts with LS's
$500,000 - Four homebuilt Locosts with LS's and a private racetrack
$1,000,000 - A secondhand Formula 1 car plus mechanics for a year.

Ahh... thanks for that information. :) I didn't realise that Aston included a more conventional gearbox near the end of the cars run. I read that some after-market place in the UK could swap the gearbox out (very pricey procedure)... but I didn't know Aston did it themselves.

Now that I think of it, I’ll buy the Vanquish instead of the DBS. Then using the spare cash from the $500,000, I’ll change the gearbox and modify the interior to make it look more like a DBS interior. Brilliant idea.

In sterling @ 1.5 exchange rate...

£20,000 2002/3 996 C2
£37,000 2006 997 C2S
£67,000 2007 996 GT3 RS
£300,000 2010 GT2 RS (I'll spend the £130,000 change on tyres :D)
£650,000 2010 997 RSR and spend the rest on a racing season

$30,000: Used Lotus Exige.
$50,000: Ariel Atom.
$100,000: Fully loaded Porsche Cayman S.
$500,000: Used Mercedes SLR McLaren.
$1,000,000: Porsche 911 GT1, a 100k garage, and 150k in tools.

I knew you'd say something like that, but what i meant is that those specific cars you mentioned have a very high maintenace cost IMO, but nobody said anything about maintenance, so t's ok.

Since people are just choosing cars with the amount of money given, id just put it all together, get a daytona, and f40, and then 458, with the leftovers from those i'd buld a nice garage, and if there are any more leftovers, id get an NA mx-5
