I have bought a Silvia S15 Aero and Race Modified it, have all the parts to tune it to the max, not put them on yet due to the fact I want to get used to the car before taking it up a notch.

Just wandering whats the best track to learn how to drift?

Also what are the best settings for my S15?

This is a frequent topic, that keeps popping up, I'm sure there are 2-3 threads that cover this... Anyhow.
Low power/Low speed drifts, try Autumn Ring Mini, once you can connect a few Corners, try moving up to Tsukuba, Suzuka, Special Stage 5 as you learn to control faster speeds, deeper angle... There are alot of Popular tracks, and the best way is just to get out there. Get a feel for my first suggestion, then when you get more comfortable with it, you'll get a feel for Proper entry speeds, and your Apex's (point at which you initiate the drift, this can be a very peculiar variable here)

How I learned to drift was I went to suzuka east and went up and down the main straight just drifting back and forth until I could control. Once I got that down pretty good I started pulling laps around the track focusing on each turn, one at a time. I knew as i got better I would be able to start linking the drifts together but you just have to take it on step at a time and practice practice practice!!! Also do not be afraid to hop into an online drift session, there are always people trying to learn in there, as well as pros that will want to help you out. Good luck.

Autumn Ring Mini for sure. Tsukuba is harder than it looks for someone just starting out.

I started learning last night by myself on Autumn Ring Mini. I tried moving to Tsukuba since I know the track quite well for time attacks. But I failed pretty hard, but don't get discouraged. It's quite fun when you start learning how to link :)

It took me a long time to figure out how to drift in GT5, but I started out using Cape Ring. I thought it would be most suitable, since it has a variety of turns.

Oh yeah, the first time you link that esses into the second major corner you're going to feel amazing :)

Yeah its a good'en, to learn how to link your drifts together i don't know a better one.. the bends are all similar so there is nothing to upset your rhythm, the first turn is fairly similar to the last and the S bends in the middle are just damn fun.. with some practice you should be able to do pretty much the whole track in one drift 👍

What makes Autumn ring mini so ideal is that it has some fundamental corners... Single Apex's, Dual Apex's, Sweepers(Half Oval). The transitions aren't too far apart either.

I say tsukuba simply because near all the turns are the same kinda corners with a few other things thrown in to give you a challenge when you get the courage to try them. This track allows you to just learn to drift since you arnt having to learn how to handle learning a bunch of different corner types, so when you get learning to drift down, you can expand onto other tracks.

Indy road course is what I practice on. After learning how to link the corners I moved to trial mountain. I'm learning that one now.

Try Trial mountain, it has always been my favorite place to drift in.

Sheesh, trial mountain, I know that track like the back of my hand but I can't drift on that track at all, very hard for me. I found autumn ring the best, then suzuka or tsukuba after that. Also found another good drifting track, can't think of the name, it's a Real snaky course in the hills, some European course. Has some real sharp corners and nice big sweeping corners, my new favorite.

TM has always been my favorite because of the variety of corners. I took each section apart before going to another track.

I second Trial Mountain. The only place I could drift :(

Try taking sections apart

Thanks for the tip nk4e, haven't tried taking it in sections. I kind of just attack the course willy nilly and try to go hard out through it. Im really having trouble with the banked corner in TM, car tends to just flick the opposite direction right after the apex point, also does it on most banked parts. Not sure if it's to do with my car setup or my entry speed into the bank or something else I'm not aware of. Any tips? Thanks

I actually found Grand Valley and Cape Ring were easy to drift with the 370Z (Fairlady Z34). I'm using a G27, and NEVER drift in games, but this car was just so easy to get sideways and hold a good slide. A good clutch kick just as I'm turning in did the trick. Car is very easy to control.

I would have to play GT again to tell you. If you can try drifting early so that you can flick it to the otherside. This is a old video and I wasn't really good

I just go sideways for fun and satisfaction - no competition in mind, but I absolutely love Grand Valley in my RUF Yellowbird. That car is so easy to get sideways, but it will bite/twitch relatively fast too so concentration and fast hands must be ready. Every time I manage to link together T3-T4-T5 (starting at the high speed left hander after the wide hairpin) at high speed, it feels amazing. Some of the rest of the track can be tricky for me. Like the tunnels out onto the bridge and off again. The track feels very narrow so the speed and angle must be correct very early to get through.

Not sure if it's the best to learn on but I definitely had fun anyway. I will try Autumn Ring too.

Hey nice smooth drifting there nk4e, better then me. You could say my drifts are like a kid with a sugar rush, I still do a lot of unnecessay corrections lol. I'll be giving trial mountain ago tonight. I'm getting better though, managed to chain 7 turns in autumn ring mini/reverse a few times with the ft86 concept car. It's an awesome drifter, you guys and girls should give it a try.

I think the track you mean is eiger norwand short track? I really love it too and have been playing it since prologue and its awesome to drift once you get a good run at it! Not too many tracks that ive seen that can be drifted fully with the sector mode like eiger and i dont really like the full lap drift :P

i think some one should make a list if they have time and rate drifting skill levels 1-5 depeneding on the track and so people can get an idea and just sticky it. just an idea

That's not a terrible idea, actually. It's still subjective though, some people are going to have an easier time with certain types of corners depending on their style. Still, I think it might be possible to come up with a vague ranking list just so beginners have SOMETHING to go on. I could see it being useful to know what the more experienced drivers consider easy or challenging.
