Back in the day I took bumper cam over hood cam; the latter made me feel like I was on stilts. Now I play cockpit view almost exclusively. It's just the best place to get the messages the car is trying to send you.

I used to drive with the "nose-cam" as it gave me a better feel of the balance of the car. The downside being the low camera position and hence reduced visibility.

Cockpit cam is now my preferred angle as it makes it easier to place the car on the line and line up for combination turns.
I find though that i have to switch between standard, narrow and narrower view with different cars.

I've noticed that the so called bonnet view is in reality a roof view, I remember the old GT games used a no car cockpit view (bumper)with just the dials.
I really miss a good bonnet view. I guess I'll get used to it again.

The fastest, and I mean the FASTEST drivers will tell you to use bumper view.
Its just easier to spot ur entry, apex, exit.

I've tried them all

I used hood view until my Brother in law, who used to drive sprint cars tried GT4 at my house. He kept getting bad times (meaning worse than I had done) and switched to bumper cam and immediately sped up. "When you're racing in a real car, you don't notice anything but the track in front of you".

I switched, and once I was used to it, my times got way faster.

Personal preference they all have pro's and con's, I tend to use the bumper view habit since GT3 and Concept, Did a race on Spa last night infact and I only knew someone was beside me because I could hear their engine the blindspot was massive.

Bumper cam all the time.

* It's the same perspective as cockpit view, but with better visibility
* It's the only view with a properly sized rear view mirror (essential for close racing)
* It's the only view with analog gauges which are essential for precision shifting
* If you drive in real life, you never stare at the hood of the car, you are always looking down track...so hood/roof cam isn't necessary.
* It only takes a few laps to learn the width of your car and how to place it properly on the apexes.

I use the hood view most time. If the opponents are not fast enough I use the cockpit view from time to time.

I absolutely mess up, if I use the cam behind the car ...

I've always used bumper cam in gt4 and 5, apart from the rally special events in gt5, where the tracks are random. For those i had to use behind car view, so i had a better idea of where the track went

Bumper cam for racing online exclusively.

Other views are just novelties to me.
Glad the premium cockpits are in GT5 though, once in a while I'll use them in a seasonal. The generic standard cockpits are lame, they just limit the track view.

I don't think bumper cam has the same perspective as cockpit view, it sits you lower. Stop the car and cycle between the two views it should be clear that they are different. Personally I prefer cockpit view. I am faster using bumper view, but crash more often. I find myself using cockpit view exclusively now after 2.0.

i use all views, i used to always...ALWAYS.. Race using the exterior view, but find it rahter tight in GT5. Really depends what mood im in, but i seem to favour the bonnet view... only slightly more than bumper or cockpit if that makes sense :)

You make it sound like that's a bad thing :). The completely unobstructed view of the bumper cam makes some of us feel like we're almost cheating if we use it.

Racing by my self for fun, or race in offline mode, I use cockpit view. It's a really nice and authentic view.
When racing online, I always use bumpercam, and scale down my map to "2". Why?
1. I get a HUGE rear view mirror in top of the screen. Helps me to get an idea where my opponents are.
2. Gives me that extra precition needed when racing real people to keep pace.

When racing online, my absolute priority is to maximize my situational awerness. Part of respect to my fellow racers, and part for making sure I know what's going on around me to not damage my car (Always run heavy damage).

Been using the chaser / third person / behind car view for about 10 years

This is exactly what I would have said. I mean, I did used to race with the bumper cam occasionally in previous GT games, but apart from that I've only ever used the chase cam when racing. I just find that view so much easier as I've used it for (as near as makes no difference) 10 years.

Also, I only ever use the cockpit cam if I'm just messing about on the track rather than doing competitive races.

I CANNOT race in bumper or hood view. Because of that, in the earlier games, I raced in chase cam 100% of the time. In GT5 I mix it up with chase and cockpit views. I mainly race in cockpit view as it is the most realistic for me. I am able to "feel" the car more and can reflect my speed correctly...which greatly improves my lap times and skill. I use the chase cam now mainly just so I can see and hear the beautiful cars Im driving thanks to the spectacular graphics. Now that there is standard cockpits (not as good but...), Im sure I will use that view even more. Unfortunately I haven't been able to play much lately due to work.
