I was racing online at monza yesterday with a Calsonic GT-R 08 (503hp/1100kg), and had a hard time with understeering at braking for both chicanes.
My car is blindingly fast, with lap times in the 1:43 but I know I'm losing about .5 sec while entering the chicanes.

This morning, I tried to cure this understeer in corner entry by moving the brake balance and altering some suspension settings, but It actually made the car worse, with laps in the 1:44 area...

Please note that this understeer happens only while hard braking for the chicanes, and the car feels excellent anywhere else.

I read somewhere that a great way to cure understeer during corner entry was by altering the LSD settings, but that's an area Im not very familiar with...my current LSD settings are 8/18/5 - maybe that's too conservative for monza?

What can I do to improve corner entry without ruining the car's overall balance?

I usually try negative front toe. I personally use -0.12 front to start. Helps turn in. You could try adjusting sway bars. Maybe softer if your springs are hard, or vice versa. Im not a fan of the GT500 GTRs except the WOODONE Clarion. I started a league using that car, then moved onto the Raybrig NSX followed by the Yellowhat Supra. All in all the Supra and NSX were faster through trial and error but everyone has their style. For example ppl say out of all the GT500 GTRs the WOODONE is the worst. It won me a few races during the league and my opinion is the other GTRs dont handle near as good.

Thanks for the advice! I'll try some negative toe and see how the car reacts.
Many people say that the Woodone is the worst of the GT-Rs, but it's because it requires a diffent tune from the rest due to different tires. I've tried the supra and the nsx, but they didn't suit me very well. I feel more comfortable with the GT-R's, specially the Calsonic and the Yellowhat...

Mmmm the negative fron toe thing is interesting. I race 1/10 RC Touring Cars and there we use toe out in front for better turn in. I basically use that experience in GT and though it may be a subjective thing, I find it helps with corner entry. For mid-corner I turn to the sawy bar ...making it softer than the rear or make the rear one harder. For corner exit I look at the springs. Again, I am not saying this is correct ...I am merely leaning on my RC tuning expeirience and yes, I know its not the samething. Still, it would be good for you to identify which settings to change in which scenario ...it lessens the guess work. And even if what you are doing is subconsciously adjusting your driving style to suit the changes, I find my approach works for me. With negative front toe I find the car struggles with the initial turn ...but executes the mid corner bit very well. Corner exit not as strong but again, that is just me. I use the Nissan YellowHat YMS TOMICA GT-R almost exclusively BTW.

I've always been an aggressive driver since my Formula 3 days. I usually brake late, in a straight line and "throw" myself at the apex, so I need to be able to kick the back end a little. Since GT5 settings and physics exist in a paralel reality (lol), I'm still struggling to find the best tune for my car.
I'll test the negative front toe and some LSD changes later, and will let you guys know how it goes. :-)

BTW Here is my Yellowhat Supra @ 600PP built for Nurburg. Very fast car. Destroys pretty much anything on track in my hands...errr controller. One guy wanted setups so I threw mine out. My feedback, out of 4 or 5 cars the guy tested he said mine felt like it was the fastest. But couldnt handle the oversteer on exit. I seem to do fine though. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=224513

Yup, I like to go in hard too ...with no assists. I also just tested the negative toe and it is good mid-corner and on exit. But honestly, because of my driving style, I like the way positive toe attacks the corner. Go in too fast and you will only understeer at the apex but be in position to control it with the throttle and nail the late apex. That makes the exit very good for me ...sometimes at the cost of mid-corner performance. Try both ...I really would be interested in your opinion.

In real world racing, I always used toe out as well, but GT5 is a different world, thus you must treat it so. In my personal experience within GT5, + Toe is better for the exit, - Toe is better for entry. Your LSD looks pretty good, you could try going down to 7/17/5. That's the only setting you've shared with us, so basically can't really do much more. Lower the rear ride height, or add -toe in the rear. Can try increasing the front compression number, or rear extension number, which *in theory* should help reduce weight transfer to the front tires.

The LSD is fine so let's make a shock adjustment. Too many people don't realize how effective a proper shock setting is for corner entry/exit. Chances are, your front compression is too low AND OR rear extension is too high. This would slow foward weight transfer under braking or as you lift off the throttle. Soften one of those settings to help load the front faster under turn in.

This is if your front tires aren't already overloaded. Observe and if they are, you need to make the opposite adjustment (increase front comp/rear extension)

You can also try making a minor spring change: soften front or increase rear but that would help more in the middle than anything. It's worth a try though if a MAJOR shock adjustment doesent help as this would help increase the total amount of weight transfer under braking. Shocks simply determine how quickly that takes place

Decreasing front/increasing rear sway bar would only help on the middle to corner exit and can produce snap oversteer so if the rest of the corner is fine don't mess with that.

In GT5, I find toe adjustments are much weaker than what would be seen in real life and making shock changes help me out more.

Hope that helps!

Found major improvement after lowering the entire car a bit...Ill post the tune here for you guys to take a look.
