Best wheel for GT5?

I too am looking to break into wheel driving. I've been using a controller for years with GT, and I'd like to make the jump to the real sim experience. I'm unsure whether to go with Logitech G25/27 or with Fanatech GT2/GT3. I've always been a big fan of the Fanatech wheels, but obviously this is out of ignorance. I love the way they look and their spec sheets seem impressive. But I have zero real world knowledge of which is better. What would you guys recommend for someone who wants to have a solid experience without going Thrustmaster high-end. I'm leaning toward Fanatech, but unsure if the added price makes sense. Thanks!

I recently bought my first wheel, a DFGT, due to its low price point and as an experiment to see whether I would like it or even use it. I have to say that it is ok as far as I can tell, it does sometimes feel like I need to turn in fractionally sooner due to some kind of lag (it may just be a subtle difference between using a DS3 and a wheel, I dont know as I havent been using it for long).

Can someone out there with experience with wheels tell me whether the DFGT is a decent representation of a wheel or are others like the G25/G27 etc. really as superior as their price point suggests?

hey, ive had the dfp, dfgt, and now ive got the g27. the major step up between the dfgt and g27 for me was the pedals. much better (and clutch/ gated shifter) the ffb in both wheels feels very simillar but a bit better in the g27. dfgt is still a great wheel, but the pedals do let it down. im about to get the fanatec gt2 as im loving forza3 atm.

I don't have any experience with the g25/27, but I have been playing with my fanatec carrera wheel and it is awesome.

I love the multiple settings that it has and the fact that it came with an H-shifter with clutch is great. I also purchased the larger paddle shifters, but haven't even put them on because I don't feel like I need them. I might change my mind with F1 2011, but we'll see.

hi, i'll just start by saying... i'm new on here.
i'm an adult with a job etc.....
been playing gt since gt1, always used a wheel.

when gt5 came out i got my G25 out of the spare room, it didn't work after six months idle, i don't know why. i binned it.

i bought a G27 from logitech, it had calibration problems fresh out of the box. it would do it's thing on ps3 start up then settle off to the left, turn gt5 on and it would do the same/similar while calibrating to the game.

i stuck with it thinking(i've always had logitech it can't be faulty) after three months of bad calibration and a developing clunk i contacted logitech.

after a few e-mails they replaced it with a new one, not even wanting the old one back. customer service i will say was splendid.

the new G27 came, i opened the box set it up and clunk. it calibrated fine but sounded like a bag of spanners.
i put gt5 on got in a mini and tried it out. it worked ok, smooth, accurate nice leather smell etc etc....
then i got in f1 2010. all my days, i never felt or heard anything like it. rattle clunk clunk rattle bang

now i understand that the car setup may not be right or my wheel setup may not be right or someone else knows better but this is in my experience of a G27.

i unplugged it bought a fanatec gt3 rs v2 with standard fanatec pedals and i am now a happy chap.

in my experience which goes back to something i cannot even remember right through logitech driving force, driving force pro, G25 and 2 G27's, now fanatec. i would say that the fanatec will provide anyone with a much better driving experience than any logitech wheel. they dont clunk, there are adjustments for dead zone, calibration, damping, spring return etc and even 5 different setup options stored in the wheel so, setup 1 gt5 racing, setup 2 gt5 drifting, setup 3 need for speed shi t, setup 4 dirt 3 and so on.....

the durability will need to be proven on fanatec, i dont know how long it will last but after 2 months with it i am impressed, so much so that i signed up here to tell you all.

logitech is not junk but in comparison to a fanatec it feels like a toy. i am a 35 year old engineer, i've been driving a real car for 18 or more years.

this is not a flame, i dont want a flame.
this is just my experience and humble opinion.
cheers

Fanatec gt2 is pretty good, but I recommend G27. It's a great product, but it has a few problems. For example the dead zones. But all in all, it's an awesome product and extends the GT5 experience in almost every way.

Defiantly the DFGT, I just got mine a couple days ago and it is an awesome wheel! It's only about $140 with tax which makes it the best quality wheel for the best price IMO.

Driving Force GT FTW

So far golded all the licenses and special races. Has dial so you can adjust ABS and Brake bias in real time. Lovin it :)

Pros: Solid, great feedback, Shifter

Cons: None

I recently received my GT3 V2 wheel with the clubsport pedals.

These replaced the DFGT I have owned since GT5 prologue was released.

In my opinion there is no comparisom between the two.

The DFGT gives a pretty good driving experience but pales in comparison to the way the Fanatec feels.

The brake pedal is fantastic providing actual feedback and is adjustable at any time.

The wheel itself feels great and looks fantastic as well. The large diameter rim is simply the best.

+1 👍

I would also recommend buying the CSP tuning kit for the sole purpose of getting the 30% stronger springs for all three pedals.

I would consider moving from GT2/CSP to a T500RS only if they offered a pedal upgrade comparable to the CSPs or provided seemless hardware/software support for the CSPs.

I bought a 2nd hand Driving Force Pro... Sure, it dosnt have a PS button and it's "old" and noisy, but I thrash this thing back and forth, and someone else did too, it still works beautifully. On-board option to switch from half turn in each direction to 1.5 turns each direction. All buttons are changeable. No H-shifter, just a + and -, and the flimsy-feeling pedals are the downfalls, but it has paddles (also kinda small). You can pick one up at your local Salvation Army for around $20.

DFGT is the best for the money, Ive not tried any others due to funds but this one is the tits lol
