Hello All,

I currently have a Driving Force pro and I am looking to upgrade. I really don't have the cash for a Thrustmaster but I was wondering which is a better wheel a G27 or the Fantec CSR Elite? Or is there an other wheel that is a better choice for GT5?

Thanks

the thustmaster is a lot cheaper than a CSR elite!? it also includes pedals which the fanatec doesn't. with pedals the CSR Elite is nearly twice the price of a T500RS

as far as which is best , the consesus seems to be:
1. CSR Elite / CSR Elite pedals (~$700)
2. T500RS (~$400)
3. G27 (~$250)

they all work well with GT5

since they are all at different price points, it just depends on what you are willing to spend

I'd get the CSR Bundle for $250. It's the same bundle I bought for 300 a couple of months back. I highly recommend it, even if the brake pedal isn't a load cell. You can opt for the CSR + CSR Elite pedals for like 380, I think...that one has a load cell brake sensor.

I have a CSR Wheel + CSR Pedals w/ Inversion Kit. I'm fine with the potentiometer brake sensor until the ClubSport Pedals V2 (or whatever) comes out.

I, too, came from a Driving Force Pro (GT Logo)... I had it for 7 years (since GT4 Prologue came out in Japan). Knowing Fanatec's record, I don't expect the CSR wheel to endure 7+ years, but I definitely enjoy it.

How well does the CSR interface to GT5? Are you able to make in race adjustments still like the driving pro lets you do?

Nope, that's limited to the DFGT / DF Pro. Not even the T500RS, the new official wheel, let's you do that. Loved the feature but the pros of the T500RS overcame said feature when it came to the question of getting a new wheel or not.

depends which adjustments you want to make. you can adjust ASM, TC, ABS, Brake balance with T500RS while racing. don't know if the CRS lets you do that, but i guess it would as well.

The best for GT5 is undoubtedly G27, paying for wheel more then for G27 is just unnecessary madness 👎

it's all a POV tbh, someone with a DFGT may say that a G27 is madness ;) in the end it's just a question of what you want to spend for an optional game peripheral. afterall there are people that are faster than me and use a DS3 :ouch:

I'm not sure about the CSR but I have mapped the buttons on my CSR-E to make in race adjustments just like you can with the DFGT. The mapping is done using the G25 setup which the Fanatec wheels emulate.

Since I've moved from G25 to G27 so i would never pay for any other wheel. It might be true that the best wheel for GT5 is the one you can afford

While the t500 and the csr elite are great wheels for ffb effects and wheel diameter the build quality for these wheels just isnt there. Both wheels have deal breaking flaws for me. I know they are fixing these wheels but for $500 I want to race not send my stuff out to be fixed or replaced every few months. Thrustmaster isnt even looking to solve there issues. There just sending out the same junk parts for you to replace. The elite i want so bad I can taste it but theres to many flaws with it also. Cheap steering wheel, steering shaft movement and the burnt up motors. Atleast fanatec appear to be trying to eliminate there flaws so Im still holding out hope for now. For now Id say your best money is still on the g27. Rock solid and very reliable. Just my 2 cents.

You can have a fun reliable porsche boxter, or a ferrari fxx that you will have to care for more and put up with a few problems along the way... Many roads to sim racing happiness

My G27 just broke and i will never buy another logitech again. Looking at getting a Fanatec.

Good luck with that... you are going to need it if you managed to break you Logitech. I have two logitech wheels:
- the Driving Force (GT3 official wheel) with more than 6 years, almost 4 years of heavy use and works like new.
- the Driving Force GT (GT5 Prologue official wheel) with 3 years of heavy use and works like new.

Logitech tech support has been good to me in the past, they didnt repair or replace your g27?

the Fanatec CSR wheel value pack is pretty good deal for $249 before shipping.

I currently have a 911 Turbo S wheel and clubsport pedals. I will upgrade to the CSR elite eventually.

I have my Driving Force Pro from gt4 that still works. G27s are very fragile.

Maybe you we're to hard on it or you just happened to have a "dud"? I haven't heard many complaints about Logitech wheels so..

I dont think the OP has the budget for t500rs and csr-elite obviously. But I'd vote for Fanatec for the Clubsport pedals. I'm quite a bit faster with these pedals. when they work, they work awesomely. Maybe get a spare load cell when you order.

CSR + CSP perhaps? Note, I am using csr-elite+CSP and T500rs

edit- Note, I really like the T500rs on GT5 though. It is a monster! The Fanatecs, you might want to dial in deadzone. Plus on console the CSPs cant use their own USB which kinda brings them down a notch. Still a notch above t500rs pedals tho

After reading all of the great posts. Which I all thank you you for the input. I have decided to go with a CSR with CSR-E pedals. Now on to designing a cockpit!

What is the difference between Clubsport pedals and CSR-E pedals? It looks to me that CSR-E pedals are just the new model.

How is the Thrustmaster Ferrari GT? I would love to get a wheel but money is very tight right now. Is it worth the $50 or am I better using my Dualshock?

Yes, that is the one Mahnegold, unfortunately Im out of a job right now so I am trying as cheap as possible. I keep looking at the logitech driving force gt on ebay but then I saw this one.
