Hello, first off if this is in the wrong forum, please redirect me. Anyway, I was thinking about getting a wheel but I don't have much money. I'm wondering what is the best but cheapest wheel I can get?

Without knowing your budget or system I will take an educated guess of Logitech DFGT. Around £80.

Minimum you will spend on a new wheel is like $129 retail. Not too bad and I would go with an officially licensed one to ensure compatibility etc. Perhaps an old Driving Force Pro if you don't mind going used. I have had mine since GT2 and it is still going strong.

And technically, this thread should not even exist as this question likely been "done before", but I will cut you some slack and save you a long search and just answer your question.

This helped me, I was looking at a fanatec 911 carrera wheel, but Fanatec seems extremely unreliable from person to person with bad costumar service if something goes wrong, and the next cheapest wheel I'd consider is $250 for the Logitech G27, so I think I might have to settle for no H-pattern with the DFGT. How many degrees is this wheel, I'm still not sure if I want it.

DFGT is the best wheel on the market if you're on a budget. I'm probably going to upgrade to a G27 soon, but I've had my DFGT for just under a year and it's the best wheel I've ever had, I love it.

the Logitech is just great, I have an old one and stills runs good, you can not go wrong there, big value

No doubt, Logitech Driving Force GT (or similar from logitech). Ratio quality/price I think is the highest. You have total control on steering, breaking and accelerating.

Ok I'll probably get a used Logitech Driving Force. Another question is how easy is it to get used to? I doubt it's super hard but I dunno, I've only ever used a controller to play any GT games. Thanks for soothe suggestions!

Don't forget about 200 Degree mode. I know on my wheel you have to hit three buttons simultaneously to lock it in. But it's definitely something you will want to experiment with or at least try. Especially if struggling with 900 degrees and it's turn in to input ratio. 200 degree will react much more like the controller your used to.

Why can't you just put it in the correct place in the first place? It's not rocket science.

Moved.

I didn't know which one I was supposed to put it in in the first place, that's why I said it...

DFGT or porsche 911 carrera if you want 3 pedals and gated shifter. I'm leaning towards the carrera.

Since you never played on a wheel, I guarantee you it will take a few minutes if not hours. It just depends on how fast you adapt. I have friends come over that never played with a wheel either and they ALWAYS sway and oversteer at first. I would say it's a 4/10 difficulty getting used to the wheel for the first time. Acceleration control should be the main focus. It also depends if you use assists or not. It took me a while to get used to having no assists on except ABS-1, but I think the best way to learn is just have all assists off at first to become familiar with the Force Feedback and weight transfers.

I bought the DFGT about a year ago, never used any other wheel. I usually am the type who want and does buy the higher end stuff to start with, cause I don't like to feel like I regret buying cheap stuff. However, since I was in a bit of a hurry and a little tight on money at the time, I decided to just buy a DFGT, which I was able to buy locally.

After using the thing for nearly a year, I have virtually no complaints at all about the wheel, have virtually no regrets at the purchase either. Now, granted, I don't really know what it might be like using a 'better' wheel... that is, I don't know if my lap times would improve, due to better ergonomics or 'feel' of the peddles etc... Yet, somehow I doubt that a better feel would help me much, unless it were somehow a feel in my seat, as opposed to on my foot or hands, but as far as I know, no wheels will give you a feel in your seat.

So... I personally LOVE the DFGT wheel, it seems like a very good value for the money. As far as I know it's the only wheel that has the little dial that lets you modify things like brake bias on the fly, and I do use this feature fairly frequently.

Currently, I'm trying to build a Wheel stand, or figure out some way to make a little cockpit without spending a fortune. I'm also quite sure, that they money I saved on the DFGT over a more expensive wheel, is much better spent on whatever I can do to improve my seat/wheel stand situation.

Fanatec 911 Carrera - by far the best wheel for small ammount of money
For $130 you get:
- 30cm ø rim with 900º of rotation;
- H shifter and pedals with clutch;
- Adjustable settings (great for GT5);
- Licenced Porsche design & real Porsche logo (same company which makes logos for Porsche makes for these wheels)
- Modularity (if you don't like the pedals/shifter - you can change them)

Now, I agree that this is the best bang for you buck but have in mind that it's holiday season, it might isn't in stock and standard pedals are dodgy.

The choice is up to you.

That choice actually isn't available.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's been discontinued.

The least expensive Fanatec option available is the CSR wheel & CSR Pedal combo they're offering for pre-order at $300 US. This does not include a shifter, other than the paddles on the wheel.

Ok I think I'll just try all different cars on Sunday Cup, or maybe a free run online until I get used to it. I figured I'd do what you were saying. (oversteer and acceleration I was wondering about)

I dont remember but I think I raced you on GT5 online last week or so...
Well the Fanatec 911 Carrera is a great price for the bargain that you're getting. I am not entirely sure about the customer service since I haven't even bother to contact them.

My biggest problem about this wheel is the pedal that is included with it. The standard pedals is just atrocious!

Oh...well, it's in stock for EU.
And the least expensive Fanatec is GT3 RS CSR Edition ($280) - GT3 RS V2 wheel with CSR pedals & CSR Shifter.

Just went on EBay as I dunno where else I would get a wheel and the only wheel and seat I found were the DFGT. Shame, I wanted the 911 wheel but it was $50 more than the DFGT with a seat.

Carrera's not even listed in the US.

The OP said he was looking to play Forza as well, so the GT3 isn't an option for him. It is a pretty good looking deal if you're Ps3 / PC only though.

You could always try the Madcatz MC2 if you're hard up on cash. Its a decent little spring wheel. Used it for years on my original Xbox.

That is why I'm leaning towards the DFGT. While the Fanatec has a clutch, which is a big deal to me (heel and toe is a skill I lack), the fact that they do not work that great or last long scares me. What's your psn, and what type of race? I'd probably remember you.

I love my DFGT it's a great wheel but for an extra 100 bucks or so you can get a G27 with clutch, six speed, metal paddle shifters etc. If you have the money I'd go with a G27, but if you don't the DFGT is still a great wheel.
