I keep thinking I'd like to pick up a new Wheel since I use an old Logitech driving Force. I see some of these really elaborate set ups which I'd love, but I'm not sure I'd dump a few grand into it. A couple hundred dollars is my limit or more if I can piece it together slowly.

What do most people use that are in these upper eschelons of time trials?

The T300rs and T500rs are your best bet for a somewhat future proof wheel. Check out the sim racing hardware section of the forum and start reading and asking questions.

The wheel most people use probably is the Logitech G27. A great wheel, I had a hands-on on it at a local electronics store. Rotates very smooth, 900 degree rotation and stuff. Also quiet. I don't know how expensive it is in your country, but here in Germany you can pick it up for about 200-250€. Alternatives to the G27:
- Logitech G25 (sequential shifting with the gear stick, but no shifting lights)
- Thrustmaster T300RS, T500RS (both are great wheels, but compared to the G27 and especially the G25 they're more expensive)

As NABeast said, the T300/500 are your best bet if you are planning on making the switch to PS4 any time soon, I'm led to believe as of yet the G27 is not supported by the PS4.
In the UK G27's are about £150/180 in some online stores where as the T300 is pushing £250 and £350 or there abouts for the T500.

Make sure you shop around for whichever you choose, I've seen some huge variances in price for all the above models.

Didn't know there was a section for the sim racing wheels, I'll go read through that. : ) Thanks.

Most of the people I know at the upper end of the Seasonal TT's use G27's.

good to know. I just get too much play in mine and was going to invest a little in a new one. I'd like to move toward having a nice cage set up if possible. I haven't missed a Gt version since 1 so I might as well anymore.

If you plan on sticking with the PS3 for another year or two until GT7 drops, the G27 is your best bet at your price point right now. You get all three pedals, shifter and paddles in a good quality package for around $200 and 2 years use out of it before you have to upgrade to something that works with the PS4. I believe both the G27 shifter and the pedals are adaptable to the T300 through Leo Bodnar, Ricmotech etc., so that you can get further use out of them down the road if/when you upgrade to the T300 because it only comes with 2 cheapie pedals and no shifter, just paddles.

If however, you plan on getting a PS4 for Project Cars and other games (you should if you are into racing games and can afford it)in the near future, the T300 is your best bet since the Logitech wheels aren't usable on the PS4 as of today and likely won't be in the future.

The DFGT is also a solid entry level wheel if you plan on sticking to the PS3 for a while and some of the top guys in TT's use it as well. It however has no stick and only two cheapie pedals, although it does have a sequential shifter and tiny (finger sized) "paddles".
