Bewildered, Frustrated by LIMITS!!!

And a sensible person here. Realistically why do you need more than 20 million?

My Used Car dealership in the past game week or so:

Chap 2J at 14,000,000 + 1,000,000 GT Auto
Ford GT LM at 2,500,000 + 1,000,000 GT Auto
CLK LM at 3,500,000 + 1,000,000 GT Auto

Let's hope I didn't want those after buying anything from the OCD or the new cars.

The 20,000,000 limit serves no purpose. For that reason alone it should be removed.

I would love to know why they chose 20 million and if it is because of thats the price of the highest car, than that is pretty short sighted, as others have said.

And that also brings me to the massive depreciation that hits cars immediately after you purchase them. Why? It's like the player has the curse or something, it's ridiculous. If you go to the used car dealership and purchase a Subaru Impreza for 27,000 credits, and you go back to sell it, it's probably only worth 6,000 credits, which is a bunch of bull.

The dealer has probably seen you drive. With the abuse you give your cars on the track, I am surprised he would even give you 6,000!

:sly:

Because you can earn more than that quite easily these days.

And, for the record, "why not have a limit" is not a valid pretext for implementing a limit.

Oh and if you have more than 100 favorites they really aren't your "favorites". Thats 1 in 10 cars which is more than enough.
Except I'm prevented from using cars in Arcade mode unless they are in my favorites. PD have already shown that there is no technical reason for the limit to be in place (because it isn't in place for online anymore), so there is no reason for it to be their whatsoever.

And, again, "why not have a limit" is not a valid pretext for implementing a limit.

Those limits aren't random, that's a choice made by PD, whether those choices are always the right one (meaning that some cars in GT5 which aren't able to be turbocharged could use a turbo in my opinion whilst cars like the 20 million '67 Le Mans racers and a car like the Alfa TZ2 where this option is available it just seems wrong in my opinion) can be debated but they aren't random.

There are also just the bizarre situations, like the Golf R32 that you can't turbocharge, but you can buy the turbocharged HPA R32. Huh??? So the tuners can do it, but I'm not allowed to? Just plain weird.

It would be interesting to read some of the design documents and discussions relating to development of GT5 (suitably translated, of course) - there are just so many things in it that make absolutely no sense to me, I want to see what the intent behind some of them was. I love the game, but it seems like every time I play I run into another WTF.

the new realization of the gear & paints limit has me kind of worried now because I've collected many paints, although I don't use the horns all that often and I don't really care much for the gears, why wouldn't I want to have them, just for the sake of having them? I don't like feeling worried that I will reach a limit, I shouldn't have to worry :\

Also, the limit of getting in a car, if it hasn't already been said, is 250 (at which point it says Switches: 250 or more) I can't verify that because I'm not near my ps3 but I'll edit this to the proper amount later.

HEy guys,

Follow my thoughts.

There is this girl and everyone could have it without any effort. Result=There wont be anyone interested.
Imagine now the same girl but as a normal girl. To have it you must gain her friendship, trust, etc. You need a lot of effort. Result= There will be a lot of interest.

The same with the rare cars, duping.

I honestly dont dupe and dont care if others do it or not. But is kinda hard watch it if it was my girl, so i dont mind some limits - i appreciate them.

I know most of you wont agree with me but i think i can reasonably argue my point.

I think they should ditch the 20 mill credit limit as you can go from 20 mil to 0 if u purchase a 2 mil vehicle, why not let us keep gaining credit til we have 100 mil or something? wots the point of a 20 mil credit limit?

My 2c on some of the limits.
DISCLAIMER: I like driving in GT5. After playing Shift 2 for some time I came to appreciate the things that PD has done right even more. They made a great 'track day simulator' as someone in another thread stated. Although in that thread it was meant as an insult I find this a good description. It is not a racing game like shift is, but it is a great simulator.

On the limits though:

The money limit
A lot of games have a money limit and I am not opposed to it, but as stated earlier, the limit is too low. The limit should at least be higher than the highest priced car and preferably as high as two high priced cars (for those wanting the pennyless trophy, as stated by IceMan PJN in this thread).

The trading limits
People were having fun duping. The grind to get all the cars is not just hard, it's impossible. So people found a way to dupe their cars and trade. There was absolutely no harm done to anyone and to be honest, the game became a bit better for everyone, even for the ones who were not duping. I got me some nice, probably duped, cars in fair trades.
The only people who were not happy about this were the elitist egomaniacs (elitists for short).

The car selling 'limit' (high priced cars cannot be sold)
Another mistake in favour of the tedious grinding. This is by far the most idiotic though. The cars you can sell have so little value that it's hardly worth it, unless you're selling your whole garage and the cars that are worth selling (because you get them 5 times through various tickets) cannot be sold. I am not saying we should go to a system like in shift 2 (where each car can be sold for the amount you bought it for) but being able to sell all cars makes the game more fun.

The prize car winning limit
Although it works well with the car selling limit, this is a bad idea too. The prize car thing in GT4 worked fine. People were having fun winning cars over and over. No one was getting hurt.

In short I think PD is not that good at game design. They made a good driving simulator, but in their efforts to make it a game with a career mode they messed up a lot. If they were to tighten the leash on their players a bit less it would make a huge difference in how people see the game.
My best guess as to why they implemented these awful limits this is so people don't get bored with the game because they've achieved everything there is to achieve in a short time. The sad thing is that a lot of people are getting bored with the game because anything they want to achieve just takes too much time. It's a bloody game, not your real life career.

And please PD, keep the seasonal payouts like they are. It is fine like this. It's a nice incentive to play those events instead of grinding the career mode for those who want some more money.

Tried to give away two cars I don't need and was told after sending one; you're at your limit for the day. WHY DO THEY CARE how many I send? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

To counteract the duping problem which they created by unlocking game saves.

I love this game, I really do, but oh my god, it frustrates the heck out of me sometimes! Let me explain:

I spend about 90% of my time on Gran Turismo 5 online, the other 10% being grinding the seasonals. Now, I also love to collect cars, so much, that I have about 615 cars, and growing. When I'm online, I like to cycle through some of my cars to switch it up, I usually change cars about 8 to 10 times when I'm in a good room. You see, the problem is, when I click on the garage icon to select a new car to drive, it takes an eternity (Ok, maybe only 2 minutes, but still) to LOAD. Now, when you do this 10 or so times while you're in a room, that time wasted waiting for the game to load your garage is staggering. Because of this, I can't exactly join a room, see what the restrictions are, and find a car that complies with them very quickly. And more often than not, the race starts, and I'm drumming my fingers on my controller, you guessed it, WAITING! It's a good thing I rarely race online, though, I mostly join rooms with speed limits and cops. But really, I'm getting sick of constantly waiting around with this game, it's ridiculous.
Now, my next rant. The servers in this game are AWFUL. They are horrendous. They are maddening. They are slow. They are finicky. They're weak. So, since I'm online 90% of the time I'm playing Gran Turismo 5, I have to put up with this crap that the servers force me to deal with quite a bit. There is not a day that goes by where I'm not able to join a room for some bull crap reason, where I don't get disconnected, where I don't have to leave because of the black screen, where I don't have to deal with immensely long waiting times to join a room, and so on. Every day I'll be having a good cruise in one of those speed limit rooms with a friend, and BAM! I get disconnected. And oh no, it's not a one time thing, no, that would be too good to be true. It's like the hiccups, once you get 'em, you're gonna get them again later, or at least I do. :P So, after getting disconnected, I'll join the room again, endure the loading screens, get a new car set up, get on to the track and later on, BAM! Yup. This will happen a couple of more times during the day, and it is MADDENING! Before PD works on any future updates, I strongly urge them to fix their servers, because this is becoming a real pain.
Thanks for listening.

The Limit I dislike the most is CR. It's something that has to be managed. Currently sitting on 15 mil after grinding Ferrari La Sarthe. Nothinig I need to buy or want to buy in any of the dealers. I should just be able to let it accumulate and not have to worry that I MUST buy something or risk losing hard earned credits.

I believe the 20 mil credit cap is so you can earn the penniless trophy no matter how far into the game you get. Earn 20 mil, buy a 20mil car, violla.

The daily car limit is so PD's servers dont explode.

I think the 1 mil car limit was an attempt to stop dupers duping the rare cars. I might be wrong.

I hope they weren't specifically targeting dupers. I'm more inclined to suspect the people selling X2010s and other rare cars on eBay.

Either way, I doubt we'll see either limit lifted any time soon. The server has been a little off ever since the PSN hack (with random disconnections and the like), and the increased trade volume that would result from lifiting either limit (let alone both at once) could very well make it worse.

i too think it annoying that you can't sell your cars have loads of duplicate cars in my garage collecting dust tho you can't see that cos your cars have some sort of auto cleaning paint :D just let me sell my junk cars sick of looking at them :(

the one that bothers me the most is the 100 favourites :\

In real life having 100 favorites is a stretch to anyone's imagination. If it takes longer than 5 seconds (well, maybe 10) to recite all your favorite cars, you're borderline OCD. Now that I think of it, most of us here are somewhat autistic :)

I'd never be able to recite them, that's the point of having a list.. so I can browse through them. It mostly bothers me because if I want to go to arcade mode and play with some specific car, it forces me to remove one from my list that I might want to race with in 2P against friends or something, instead of having both.... why can't arcade mode just load my garage? :P

Oh right, it's because GT5 and sense are like oil and water.. they wont mix no matter how much you try to stir it up.

You guys do realize the PS3 is a Sony product don't you?
They will force their will on everything.
If I didn't get this thing as a birthday present, I would never be caught dead with Sony products anymore.
So what f someone dupes 10,000 cars and sells them on ebay. Does that affect me ? No, not one bit. If I want to buy a car, I buy a car.
So it affects trading. No it doesn't. Just trade with your friends.
I personally have something like 1150 cars and have never exploited any of them.
%$#$ Sony. I respect them just as much as they respect me.

also, the limit of getting in a car, if it hasn't already been said, is 250 (at which point it says switches: 250 or more) i can't verify that because i'm not near my ps3 but i'll edit this to the proper amount later.

wwwwwhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaattttt???!!!!
