What's brake horsepower?

It's horsepower measured at the engine's brake, or more specifically, what manufacturers try to sell you. IE, the BMW M3 has 333 hp. Brake horsepower is also known as flywheel horsepower, because the flywheel is the engine's brake.

Real car guys look at how much they can put out to the wheels (WHP). There's usually a 15%-20% loss of hp at the wheels, maybe more depending on the car/drivetrain configuration.

In a car magazine it says BHP means Bi Horsepower, no clue why but that's just what it says.
