Ok heres what happened. I was in Linux (Mandriva 2005) and I was editing the config for lilo so that XP would show up top the list and Linux second with all the other stuff below that. Well after I edited it and got it to show up that way I tried to go back into XP. After I pick Windows on the lilo screen it gives me the "ntldr missing" message and has continued to say that since. I read somewhere to try using the recovery console on the XP disk to copy ntldr and ntdetect from the cd to the windows root directory. I tried that and still nothing although now when I start up my computer it makes this really weird beeping type noise from the pc speaker. It does it up to when lilo shows up. I'm running out of ideas of what to do and I'm really getting frustrated. :banghead:

This is the exact same message I got when my hard drive started to fail ...

I tried everything (including what you tried), but the only thing that fixed it was a reformat ...

Did you try reinstalling windows or fixing the mbr? I've been thinking about doing one of the two or both.

Yup and Yup

Like I said, I tried every repair option in Windows repair, nothing worked ... Tried copying the missing files from the disc, didn't work ... tried reinstalling Windows without reformatting, didn't work ... etc.

I ended up having to take it to a local shop to have them copy all my important files to disc because everyone I knew wouldn't let me hook up the hard drive to one of their computers because they feared I had a virus ...

After that, I reformatted ... The local computer shop said that it was completely missing the C: partition ...

I guess I was lucky. I'm posting from XP now. All I did was start up the recovery console from the XP disk and ran the "fixmbr" command and here I am. Since I did that now I wont be able to easily get into Linux but I'm sure I'll figure out something. :)

Happened to me, it said something like, NTLDR is missing. Press Alt to continue or something, and it would keep reapearring.

I just reinstalled XP on NTFS System Files, and reinstalled all my drivers. It worked perfectly. Downside is, you lose all your data, which isnt good, i lost all my 2000 songs :ouch: And i also tried windows repair, didnt work either. I now keep a copy of my files on my 200GB external hard drive :sly:
