What do you think is the most recogniseable / biggest brand in the world? Where other, say what you think it should be.

You missed Intel, but I can't believe you left out Sony! Do you want me to add them for you?

Yeah, but what about GM?

Cant put them all in - list will become too cumbersome, so vote under "other" and say GM, which you already have.

Definitely Coca-Cola. Doesn't matter how $hitty or how poor the country, you will find the ubiquitous curvy bottle with Coca-Cola in english on one side, and some weird-a$$ writing on the other side... In many third world countries it's safer to drink coke than water... who would have thought that coke could save your a$$ from that 5-hour diarhea in the middle of central africa! I bet Saddam Hussein had his own Coke factory, and I would bet money that Kim Jong Il imports the sweet liquid too :D

That's actually not true. Drinking water is all about rehydration - or restoring the balance of water and solutes in your body. Coke contains a large quantity of sugar, which is a solute, and therefore actually lowers the percentage of water in your body. Furthermore, Coke also contains a large quantity of caffeine, which is a diuretic (makes you pee), which also reduces the percentage of water in your body.

In short, Thirst + Coke = More Thirst.

BTW, I voted Sony.

Thanks for doing the additions there Giles 👍

Sony vs Panasonic. Hmph. Matsu****a makes JVC, National, Technics and Panasonic. Tough call.

My first thought would be Coke. I can't imagine that there's *anywhere* that it wouldn't be recognised.

OK, so the stupid swear filter edits Matsu****a, but it allows Scunthorpe. :odd:

WHEN IT WON'T GO

DeMuro Lubrication Inc. For all your lubricating needs. Bada bing, bada boom.

0800 - IT WON'T GO

OR:

0900 - LUBRICATE ME

I think i read recently that the brand with the greatest coverage in the world was

..

Nestlé

coffee, chocolate, cereals.....its sold all over the world and doesnt have a particular country associated with it in most peoples view..

they have a bad record in paying poor people a pittance in virtual slavery in the third world and i never buy thier products under protest....but i used to like Kit-Kats..

also the Unilever Group are quite big...

I know for a fack that it's Coca-cola, if you've ever been to the coke place in Atlanta, Georgia you'd know. At the top floor they have a room with hundreds of dispensers on it, and each dispenser is a different style of coke, suited for every country. The coke is specially made for almost all of the major countries and some smaller ones; and you just grabbed a cup and could try them all out!:O

Coca-Cola..... And that's official...

Now how's that for taking the fun out of a poll :trouble:

Not exactly. The article ranks each of the brand names based on the valuation of each company's assets. Certainly, the strength of each brand has a pronounced affect on how each company is evaluated, but numerous other factors, mostly based on the financial strength and viablity of each company are at play.

For example, giant General Electric is ranked fourth of the list, but Nike is ranked 33rd. You can argue that on many levels that Nike has stronger and more immediate brand recognition than GE --even though Nike is most likely dwarfed by GE's annual product output.

Cisco is a company largely unknown outside IT circles, yet it is ranked signifigantly higher at 17.

I think this poll looks more at brand recognition and market penetration rather than net value of the brand... very differnent.

What about McpissingDonalds? They turn up just everywhere...

I say Coke. Then Toyota, they're like the only cars people drive in third-world countries. Whenever you see three guys with AK-47s riding in the back of a pickup truck in the desert somewhere on the news, the truck is always a Toyota.

i vote coke, rolex shouldnt even be up there seeing that its an expensive brand.
nike should be up there

They're losing clout big-time to Subway these days. I think it might even be fair to say that they're in trouble. Huzzah. They certainly do seem desperate lately, both in their ad campaigns and in the way they introduce a new gimmick every few weeks - the end may well be nigh, yes? Brand recognition being one thing, market share being another... Subway probably own more land than the church right about now.

And you're right. Pissing is the only reason I ever go there.
