Some second wave oppinions.
First - Black is a FPS-platformer game. Why? Because you must die over-and-over-and-over-again on the same spots to learn where the ugly MF with rocket-launcer is.
Second - Black is not a big game. To reach 100% you have to finish game on Normal, Hard and Black-Ops settings (there is easy mode too but I didn't bother) - Normal is pretty demanding, hard is HC, didn't unlock Black-Ops still - you have to finish all missions on hard to unlock BO. There are maybe 9 levels in total as I can see - myself reached 8th and still stucked on it big-time. Why? The MF's have full-body-armours, shields, magnums, rocket-launchers, shotguns and there are hundreds of them crawling around from every hole

. I love this game.
Second and half - but I still can't wait to finish the game on Normal and to start play on Hard. Now I know the levels by every single inch. I know where the MF's are. And I have to wipe them out. All of them.
Third - Black has it's own rules. It does not take into concern novelties inside the genre we got used to. No vehicles. No fancy gadgets. No maps. No big-time sniper-zoom. In later stages bad-guys will take up to 20 bullets from a heavy-machine-gun to die. You just have to accept all of it and move forward to the next platform. Since Black is a FPS-platform game.
Fourth - Black is one-hell-of-the-addictive game. And I fell bad to speak all those superlatives for something signed by Electronic Arts because Black will cash them in another zillion of Big-Ones. But, life is like that - sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. EA obviousely wins all the time. Damn.
Fifth - Lack of multiplayer (at least at the XB version I'm playing - maybe there will be multip in the final code, do not know at this point) makes Black one-solely-single-player-experience. So, once you finish it - that is that - taaadaaaa... Still didn't reach end of Normal game, and game states that Normal unlocks "Silver Weapons". I guess guns will be silver in Hard mode then. I have around 10 hoours of game and I'm at level 8. Probably one ot two to go.
Conclusion - Black is the true "old-school" early 90's shooter made in 2006. It is 100% linear and driven by just one thing - to kill everything that moves before it kills you. Still, it is packed by more then few magnificent touches of new-age gaming. Must-stealth gameplay, marvelous graphics and sound, brutal and unforgiving AI, great physics and small details makes Black a uniquee experience. I must admit that I have not played such a addictive shooter for a long time. Great job done by Criterion, hopes for sequel ASAP.
EDITED: Just 8 levels in total. But last 8th level on "normal" setting worths 10 levels in any other game. It is a slaughterhouse. Since the game does not save chechpoints on MC but just in RAM, you must go throght the whole level in one take - and take can last for 2 hours respectfully. I recalled the last level of the first Doom in my mind since it is the only equivalent of such hard-core violence to both mind and gameplay in the whole video-game history. I have no freakin idea how I'm going to pass that level on "hard" one day, and "Blac-Ops" seting just seems like a total M:I.
What a game. Short but killing. Like a 5-star night with Jenna Haze would look like. That is the only thing in the whole world I can compare it to.
