It was an expression of humor. In another thread you said you were japanese jokingly, and in this thread, you made statements that closely mirror that of a japanese consumer.

Hence his statement.

I'm pretty sure he got the joke.

And no VIPFREAK, it has nothing to do with you. It has to do with the fact that FPS' don't sell in Japan because usually people there get nauseous with this kind of game.

That, and I believe if it went on PC everyone would blast it because:

It doesn't have online

It doesn't look as good as Quake 4.

Pfft... Quake 4 sucked ass hard BLACK would easily beat it. As for online yeah that's kinda a must now these days. :grumpy:

Visually...I still think Quake had the win as far as environments...but the gun models in black are jaw dropping..

But yea, I still think at full settings, Quake 4 was great looking on PC.

Hmm... well I will continue to not understand the hype around that game. I think Unreal Tournament is even better than it. That was as ****ty as the old HL games I tried a long time ago.

The demo kicks ass! Playable in this months OXM, this game is awsome it really isnt gonna dissappoint you FPS fans!

I like the reload sequences:p but as the magazine said they may get annoying in time..It gets 8.6 and is said to be short..

I could write the whole essay about the Black - been stuck on it for last three days - but all I'm going to say is - it ia a marvel.

Old school shooter in the most beautiful FPS-graphics to date, addicitve gameplay, technical perfection and marvelous sound.

No mid-level saves, just one or two checkpoints on oftenly enourmuos-sized levels - and it has to be played like a stealth game, because any outing leads to sudden death.

Speaking solely about console-shooters: I was amazed by first Halo, then pinned-down by Killzone, helled by Doom 3 and enjoyed HL2 - but Black wrote the rules once again from the scratch.

It is the NOW setting that gets all the adrenaline up, and I love the freaking game.

Couldnt agree more with the first part, the sound is immense:D

And stealth? thats where i been going wrong in the demo then! I just went running out into the street with an Ak47 shooting anything that moved!

....Died pretty quickly..

There is no other FPS that requires so much stealth.

It is basicaly a "Metal Gear meets Splinter Cell" in FPS engine.

AI is not too intelligent, but it is deadly. They hide, regroup and so on, but they're very precise. Very. You must be hidden at all time and you must examine all the area before advancing. Very nice gameplay idea which adds hours into gameplay.

Game lacks just few things: ability to jump (old-school thingie), co-op mode (then it would be a heaven on Xbox LAN), multiplayer of any kind and some technical-gadgets that would give you the idea of being "black-operative" on enemy territory. You just have weapons - no infra-red, no heat-sensors, not even PDA. But, I guess, MGS and SC have spoiled us big time.

Even without those, Black prevails as one of the most specific and amospheric shooters I've ever played - and one of the top 3 console shooters of all times.

If you have time, please write a complete review about the game so all of us can sleep tonight :sly:
He wrote more about it in post #80. Sounds like a great game from his mini review in that post.

Some second wave oppinions.

First - Black is a FPS-platformer game. Why? Because you must die over-and-over-and-over-again on the same spots to learn where the ugly MF with rocket-launcer is.

Second - Black is not a big game. To reach 100% you have to finish game on Normal, Hard and Black-Ops settings (there is easy mode too but I didn't bother) - Normal is pretty demanding, hard is HC, didn't unlock Black-Ops still - you have to finish all missions on hard to unlock BO. There are maybe 9 levels in total as I can see - myself reached 8th and still stucked on it big-time. Why? The MF's have full-body-armours, shields, magnums, rocket-launchers, shotguns and there are hundreds of them crawling around from every hole:). I love this game.

Second and half - but I still can't wait to finish the game on Normal and to start play on Hard. Now I know the levels by every single inch. I know where the MF's are. And I have to wipe them out. All of them.

Third - Black has it's own rules. It does not take into concern novelties inside the genre we got used to. No vehicles. No fancy gadgets. No maps. No big-time sniper-zoom. In later stages bad-guys will take up to 20 bullets from a heavy-machine-gun to die. You just have to accept all of it and move forward to the next platform. Since Black is a FPS-platform game. :)

Fourth - Black is one-hell-of-the-addictive game. And I fell bad to speak all those superlatives for something signed by Electronic Arts because Black will cash them in another zillion of Big-Ones. But, life is like that - sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. EA obviousely wins all the time. Damn.

Fifth - Lack of multiplayer (at least at the XB version I'm playing - maybe there will be multip in the final code, do not know at this point) makes Black one-solely-single-player-experience. So, once you finish it - that is that - taaadaaaa... Still didn't reach end of Normal game, and game states that Normal unlocks "Silver Weapons". I guess guns will be silver in Hard mode then. I have around 10 hoours of game and I'm at level 8. Probably one ot two to go.

Conclusion - Black is the true "old-school" early 90's shooter made in 2006. It is 100% linear and driven by just one thing - to kill everything that moves before it kills you. Still, it is packed by more then few magnificent touches of new-age gaming. Must-stealth gameplay, marvelous graphics and sound, brutal and unforgiving AI, great physics and small details makes Black a uniquee experience. I must admit that I have not played such a addictive shooter for a long time. Great job done by Criterion, hopes for sequel ASAP.

EDITED: Just 8 levels in total. But last 8th level on "normal" setting worths 10 levels in any other game. It is a slaughterhouse. Since the game does not save chechpoints on MC but just in RAM, you must go throght the whole level in one take - and take can last for 2 hours respectfully. I recalled the last level of the first Doom in my mind since it is the only equivalent of such hard-core violence to both mind and gameplay in the whole video-game history. I have no freakin idea how I'm going to pass that level on "hard" one day, and "Blac-Ops" seting just seems like a total M:I.

What a game. Short but killing. Like a 5-star night with Jenna Haze would look like. That is the only thing in the whole world I can compare it to. :D

Excellent review Amar. You have me very excited to pick up this game. I have always liked hardcore brutal shooters. The way you describe the game sounds like "Dead to Rights". Brutal shooter game with enemies everywhere shooting from every angle. I look forward to BLACK next week. :)👍

I finished the first level last night, not very long but still better than the demo version. The game controls are smoother and the graphical effects are pretty good. AI seems just as dumb as in the demo but at least there's lots of them to kill. I'm already happy to see a game with graphics as good as Killzone's but with a decent frame rate. Gotta play more tonight. :)

Oh, and the cut scenes are cool too, real footage, not CGI.

Well the hard mode is merely M:I - no health packs. I cannot finish the first level man... :ouch: Probably need sleep after 2-day-killing-spree or I'll Black-out.

About the 8th circle of Hell - the slaughterhouse - I couldn't describe it better myself. "Fire in the hole with you in it" litteraly. I've revisited that last checkpoint 5 or 6 times before I bombed out last mission that took me total time of, not kidding, 1 hour 54 minutes. Hey, like you said last time - is it a Rambo game or what? :sly:

What is more fantastic is that Black uses data streaming so there is no classical enoying loading screens what so ever in one mission. This makes it absolutely spectacular experience that doesn't stops until you wipe out all of the MF's. Or take one RPG's blast too many... With Black you simply must remember all the names of the cast - weapons. :)

BTW: I've played PlayStation2 version. No technical difficulties, everything looks and sounds superb, and frame rate is super-slick. No multiplayer what so ever either. Only bad thing, if you ask me, is lasting apeal.

The gamespot review of this game isn't very positive, I think I'll wait until this game drops in price and then reconsider whether to buy it.

From what I read so far this game is pretty much Killzone with more stuff to blow up.
