It's getting worse every day! I can barely play online without getting it! This isn't fair!! :grumpy:

I went through this a couple of months ago...I too made a thread about it. Fortunately it's cleared up a bit for me, but the situation is still pretty fluid. Last night I was racing in a fairly local online race i.e. most players from UK and a couple from France and the races were just unplayable. BSOD, lagging. Was really awful.

A bit later I go to a 14-person strong US room where everybody is from the US, and I'm the only one from the UK. Bear in mind this is a distance of over 3000 miles...and the racing was blemish free. No lag, no BSOD. No nothing.

I don't know whether it's because someone has a faulty connection, whether it's PD's fault...I dunno. The whole online experience in GT5 is just strange.

'MERICA! F-Yeah!

..kidding...

I notice long load times randomly. No matter what flag is in the room. If it gets really unbarable just as someone joins, I kick the last person that joined and we all continue racing again. That usually fixes it.

I don't get black screens that much. More like getting disconnected from the server every five minutes, even in my own lobbies.

I usually get undbearably looooooooong loading times whenever I'm online, which is quite a bit, so I have to sit and stare at the screen while it just sits there, loading. It's really pissing me off. I'm getting damn sick of all of these loading times. This is 2011, crap like this is unacceptable.:ouch::sick::nervous:

1. Reset your internet connection before turning on your PS3. When able, hardwire directly to modem.
2. Disable custom soundtracks. Turn them off for everything.
3. Clear your cache.
4. Pray to deity of choice.
5. Contact Sony.

Since I've started doing the first 3 steps, I've had 0 problems. Also, use the search feature on this site, as this topic gets a new thread almost every day.

I have really long load times as well when online. If I want to change the car settings I can count on a five minute wait there and back. I've gotten used to having a magazine handy so I can read while I wait. I am new to online GT so I am not sure if the load times are a new issue or not.

Doesn't all drivers exiting to the pits before the race start reduce the chances or the black screen?

The theory goes that if everyone stays in the pits it reduces the likelihood of BSOD, although the accuracy of that is up for debate.

It only happens to me often because I'm on a slow connection at the moment but I'm hoping when I go back to where I actually live that (where my father pays for a high speed connection) that the latest update has increased the amount of times I get disconnect or have a black screen.

I'm wondering how long you guys are waiting for a race to start during a black screen, are you just quitting the game after a few seconds? I get them occasionally & just wait till the race starts, which can be well over 1 minute sometimes, the race always starts for me eventually.

👍

PS: If you're trying to race with the BGM on, then you're asking for trouble, turn it all off for online racing.

I get one when I try to buy a RX8 or 787B.

So there's nothing wrong with my game, I thought mine was dying or just didn't like the Chrysler Crossfire when I tried buying one in the UCD and then it froze :)

I had the same problems. Disconnects, lagging cars & long loading times for the race = fixed. :sly:

Down for Maintenance
The PlayStation Community is down for maintenance. Very important maintenance. It's not like someone got overenthusiastic with a PlayStation®Move and knocked out the servers. Not at all. Where did you get that idea? We're maintaining things.
Be back soon.

...figures...

I'm only seeing the black screen of death if people aren't in the pits before the race starts. This problem IS aggravating and needs to be resolved by PD hopefully in the next update. This wasn't a problem, as far as I can remember, prior to the last update.

I see it mostly on Daytona. I think it has alot to do with this track being very popular and used quite a bit on the servers. An informed host can really help this situation as well.

When hosting:

1. A host has to set the room correctly. With all of the different connection types out there, setting the room at too high of a Race quality level can lead to more issues.

2. A host has to recognize when a lesser connection has joined their room. The loading bar under their name will take excessive time to finish scrolling upon joining and during course changes. This can lock the host from being able to even change courses or settings, until the user finishes connecting.

3. Always have everyone stay in the pit before starting the race. This seems to help, but I'm not sure exactly why.

4. Reset the room often. Do a course change and all people will "reload". Then, just change the course back and they will reload again. This seems to help with balancing all connections in the room. It also shows who is having the most trouble, because any that take a long time to stop scrolling are possibly going to cause the issue. You can also change settings to accomplish this. Basically, any change that makes all connections "reconnect" to the room.

The above, coupled with people ensuring that they clear their own cache often (I do it before each online session or even sometimes between servers), can help reduce excessive black screen starts. Also, if you are playing through a router at home, reset the router every now and then, too.

I had it happen 1 time in the past couple of months. And that turned out to be a result of 1 person in the room having a bad connection. He disconnected, and everything worked fine after that.

Very true. Sometimes the bad connection has to leave and rejoin to clear the issue they are having. I always recommend they leave, clear cache, sign out/back into PSN and rejoin. May be overkill, but it only takes a few minutes and helps more often than not. :)

I can't play the game without having the game crash at least 6 times a day. And that number is real, I logged them. This is rediculous

I get black screens more often if they have that racing check (where you have to keep your foot on the brake). It seems pointless.

I play gt almost everyday, usually online unless I'm making money in a seasonal.

I see the hanging black screen 3-4 times a online session!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Usually only when the race starts. Although last night after the race when the game was going back to the menu it hung and I could hear all the people in the room drifting and talking while I was stuck on a black screen.

Seems like I'm far from being alone in getting the black screen of death. PD really needs to sort this mess out quickly!

FIX THE SERVERS PD!!

I get stuck on the GT logo loading screen at the start after RR all day from my office. When I get home I turn of the server mode and the thing crashes. I then have to take the PS3 off line, turn it off, then on, then reconnect and final start GT for it to work properly.
