Hi, everybody on GTP. There's nothing here yet, so this is just a placeholder until 10AM tomorrow morning. Starting tomorrow, I'll be reporting live on the GT5 experience, with an unboxing and then the install and starting the game, and I'll keep it up for a while. I'm going to jump right into Sim mode without even touching Arcade initially.

I'll be reporting on my impressions of the races, the license tests, the cars, everything. Photos, videos (haven't 100% decided on that one), text, the works. I'm planning on trying to make it through the game without driving non-premium cars, so that should be interesting.

I'm super-excited about the game. I think I'm going to start with either the MX5 or the Cappuccino, so that I can use license tests to make the FD2 Civic Type R my first FF, since it's closely related to my USDM Si Sedan.

Oh, lastly, anybody who wants can go ahead and add my PSN, it's GTP_TakFujiwara.

Maybe I'm wrong, but couldn't there be any number of standard JDM drift machines at the used car dealer when the game starts? You might want to consider some of those. IMO, you should probably ignore what's premium and what isn't until later in the game. The cockpit view is just going to make it harder to drive well if you use it, anyways.

I've been driving with the cockpit view for quite a while now, in PC sims and lately in Forza and GTPSP, so I'm much more used to it than I am to the bumper cam. Also, I really want to kick off my GT5 experience with the cars that really make the game what it is, instead of just GT4 rehashes.

👍 Great to hear. I love reading impressions and especially those of the community.

It'll be especially interesting to see how the "premium car only" thing works out. :)

I hear a bunch of people are buying the kart (apparently you HAVE to own a car before you can do licenses, and it's the cheapest at 5k), and then doing licenses and challenges until they can afford pretty nice stuff.

I'm personally leaning toward the Cappuccino. If GT5 is anything like GT4, it can do the Sunday Cup, and the Beginner MR, Kei, and Convertible cups, so good bang for the buck, plus it's a fun car to drive, with just enough oversteer to be entertaining without being drifty enough to keep you on edge.

Oh, in the interest of the whole blog experence, I just got back from Target, where they didn't even have an empty space for GT5. Not sure where they're gonna put it tomorrow. Would've been cool to start tonight, but I was there for other stuff so it wasn't a wasted trip.

DAY 1

9:40: I'm off to Gamestop. Depending on if there's a line, I may post from the store, please excuse the awful iPhone typing if I do.

10:41: Got it!!! I was second in line (behind a dude in a 3000GT), and first collector's edition. Wow, this is really nice, I just took pics and I'll edit/post while GT installs.

11:20

It said "Approx 20 mins left" when I started the install. It's been 25 minutes, and it's not even halfway. Now it says "Approx 15 mins left."

Not that I expected any different.

11:35 Argh, it's said "45 Seconds" for the past 5 minutes. STOP TAUNTING ME!!! XD

So, a day of playing is complete. I'm now at A-Spec level 10. I've been selling every Standard car I get, even the rare ones, since I don't plan on ever driving them outside of Arcade mode. So, observations:

- Loading times are horrible. PD really needs to do something about this. What's weird is it seems random, for example, I'll have multiple car tickets, and going from the delivery screen back to the home screen might take 15 seconds one time, and then 5 minutes the next. Regardless, it's really annoying.

-Money seems to come relatively easily. One afternoon playing, and I've got Cr.191,000 after buying a Cappuccino, an MX5, a FD2 Civic Type R Sedan, and an S2000, plus a few paint color changes and stuff. The Kart challenges, which are pretty fun, are a great money-maker, as the level 7 races get you Cr. 34,000 for about 5 minutes of driving, and they're pretty easy. Actually, I think the tracks are randomly created, so if you're lucky like I was, you can get a short high-speed track and earn that much in about 2:30! I did screw up and sell the Vitz I won from something, now I gotta buy another one for the Vitz race.

-Licenses are harder to gold than I remember them being in previous games. I feel like the National B tests are as hard as the International B ones in GT4. I've always kinda sucked at license tests, though, I guess I'm more of a consistency driver than a hot lapper.

-GT Auto is pretty cool now. Aero mods, on the cars that can get them, seem to be pretty tasteful, on average. I'm sure that'll be proven wrong soon enough. Be wary with paint, it costs Cr. 2000 and you can't actually see it on the car until it's done. I feel like my Miata is a little bit pink due to that. (I think it's actually Cappuccino red.)

-The collector's edition box is really crappy. It looks cool until you realize it's really poorly made out of cheap paper, and mine ended up getting caught on the diecast car's case and the package got trashed. Still looks good with the slipcover on, but I took all the stuff out and the box is just a display now. It's too bad, I wish it'd been more like Forza 3, which had an awesomely well made box.
