Would you mind sharing a few example reasons?

I could see the photographer doing it as a joke to the car owner. But other than that, I have no suggestions. I'm pretty sure it wasn't 'accidentily' attached upside down - that'd just be plain ole lazy.

doesnt look doctored to me.... any one who attaches a license plate upside down has got some hand eye coordination problems....or they are just too lazy to do it right the first time.
