RACE ROOM open

GTP BMW 2002 : 1472-4711-0038-4894-7224

Fun racing tonight! Actually got into a groove on that track, which is great since it's not really one of my favourites.

As promised, here's the setup I used (****Disclaimer**** I'm not very good at tuning, but I was happy with it :)):

Ride Height: F: -20, R: -2
Springs: F: 9.7, R: 11.0
Damper (extension): F: 5, R: 6
Damper (compression): F: 5, R: 4
Roll Bars: F: 7, R: 2
Camber: F: 2.2, R: 1.0
Toe: F: -0.05, R: 0.27
Brakes: F: 4, R: 2

No wing on this setup either, so you'll have to account for that if you're running one.

I've only driven this on Cote D'Azur, but it was fairly neutral with some lift-off oversteer which helped the turn in. Tire wear was even all around too 👍

If anyone tries this, let me know what you think, or if you tweak it for the better since I don't really know what I'm doing

so good to see this series working well, Thanks Omahasubaru and Tmoney645.
Really appreciate you guys taking over.

Had a great time tonight. Looking forward to some good races in the future.

In regards to egghead43's suspension setup, thats quite different from what I use. Might have to give it a try and see which setup I like better, though for Monza it may not make too much of a difference. After the practice runs and races after the feature race tonight, seems drafting technique will be a bigger factor.

I had a good time tonight.

I will post my setup tomorrow hopefully (already turned off the PS3). It is COMPLETELY different than Eggs. Egg I will try yours. I was shocked at your spring rates, until I saw your rear toe setting.

It appears the Orange 2002s were fastest this race. :D

Glad to hear the race went well, sorry again I was not able to make it.

Yup, Orange 2002's FTW 👍

The spring rates and ride height probably look completely backwards from how you might think they should be, but the game seems a bit backwards in these areas compared to real life.
Just give it a try an let me know what you think. I used to have a wing on the car, and consequently much less rear toe. The wing still didn't help the low speed oversteer issues (obviously) so I think the wingless solution, and just suspension tuning is the way to go.

Glad you all had a good time, I would have been there but my wife had other ideas of what I should spend my Saturday doing. :(

Missed the race last night as I was just too tired :(

Hopefully will be there for the next one!

I wish I had done some more online testing with my tune. It was fast until the grip started to go on the tires (around about 5 laps after the start), but after that it was hard to keep the car going at any particular speed without it becoming a nightmare to handle.

Also, maybe we should update the thread title to Open, or maybe start a new thread for the next race? See if we can't fill the races up a little more.

Anyone want to race Monza tonight?

Any way we could have the races slightly earlier for the european drivers? only Saturday nights I'll probably be still awake for 3am is when I'll probably be drunk :p

That's a good call 👍

This series could be great fun with bigger grids. Since the original host is no longer organizing the series, this thread should be closed and edited to refer to a new one so we can keep the first post up to date.

Its probably a good idea to open this back up to new comers. The field is kinda small at the moment, and on the larger tracks like Monza, it could feel a little too empty.

As for the tire choice, is it possible to set it to a vote? I know some would probably like racing tires, though myself I like the sport softs. The sport tires make the car more fun to drive I think. Might be a good idea to make a compromise in some way?

As one of only five finishers I must say we need more racers and this series has tons of potential, the car is amazing, the tire choice of sports softs is perfect. We need to get the word out get a few more dependable drivers and well have to work something out with the points system. The problem is all these guys signed up, we put "closed" on the thread and many lost interest. completely agree with led, egghead, and ranek.

Here is my setup.

Ride Height: F: -13, R: -10
Springs: F: 9.3, R: 4.9
Damper (extension): F: 4, R: 3
Damper (compression): F: 3, R: 2
Roll Bars: F: 6, R: 2
Camber: F: 2.1, R: 1.5
Toe: F: -0.05, R: 0.05
Brakes: F: 5, R: 3

no wing

Egghead...

Just tried your setup online tonight and really like it. I'm going to tweak it some I think, but it is nice. I like how it exits corners. I think the toe is the key to this setup, something mine was lacking greatly.

What up, Id love to get in on these races if I dont have to make too much of a commitment. Im sometimes out of town on the weekends but I want to race when I am around. I also think that I have won this car and sold it, does anyone know if I could pick one up on the used dealer? So if I can get in on a week to week basis I would like to give these races a shot, let me know.
psn: Torzilla
Thanks
Tor

So, omaha, tmoney, are we getting a new thread or shall we continue with this one?

We've been in contact with Enzo and he's been fairly timely in performing updates.

I'd like to see us stick to this thread and the current ruleset for the remainder of this series. However for Series II, we could start a new thread and open up the ruleset more.

Thanks - Jon

I would consider discussing qualifying however.

This week since t-money was in charge of that and couldn't make it, I just had us run a 20-30 minute qualifying session and that seemed to do the job for everyone there.

I'm up for either really. As long as we are aware of who is around us, use caution entering/exiting the course for pits and spins, and try and space ourselves out.

What do you think about trying to ad a few drivers?

Anyone got any times down for Monza yet? I put in about 10 or so laps online last night with an average time of about 1:19-20

Thats about what I was getting ranek. But I think things will change greatly once we get a good group on the track and being able to draft. The short straights of Cote d'Azur weren't good for drafting, while the long straights here and reletively few and fast corners, make for a very fast track by comparison.

I'm up for some online practice tonight if anyone else is in for it. Let me know and we can get a room set up.

@led86

I would like to run some laps tonight. I will be on around 8pm, I will PM when I get online.

alright, sounds good. I have a room open for anyone that wants to practice. New people to the series or that are interested are welcome as well.

I hope you meant 2:19-20 or you've got some illegal mods!

I ran about 20 laps tonight in the online practice room, and got down to a 2:14.06 running the same setup I had from Cote D'Azur. Got disconnected a couple of times though which kills the rhythm.

This race is going to be completely different from the first one with the amount of drafting that's going to be happening.

I couldn't come close to that time Egghead43. My best was a 2:17.056 I think. This was using the suspension tuning that Egghead posted up, slightly modified. Much more stable than my original setup. Thanks for posting that.
