So, the new BMW 3GT has been spied during a video shoot.

Needless to say it's kind of polarising the BMW community at the moment.

Personally, I quite like it, at least in M-sport trim (the silver one).

I'm sorry but BMW's latest design trend actually makes me sleepy..

Paint it white and call it Moby Dick.

Are these cars even selling? Because of all the new BMWs that run around in Tampa, and I've got a keen eye for new Beemers, but I've only seen a handful of these GT types.

It's horrible. Honestly, a wagon is prettier and more practical. What's there not to like? Why are you doing this, BMW, it's stupid! I've only seen one 5 series GT, they're selling horribly. BMW have become a company that builds big, isolated luxury cars, rather than fun, sporty ones. Can we have a few cars for us enthusiasts? No? Oh hey, have you seen the new Mercedes?

I like it a lot more than the 5GT, think it looks pretty nice, but that fender vent thing looks so damn bad as well as in the coupe

I agree, it's not as bad as the 5 series GT. That thing has no grace whatsoever, this isn't entirely devoid of elegance, just mostly. And yes, the fender vent looks silly.

Well we're getting the 3 wagon, so who cares?

Jesus they look like they're about to flip over.

Interesting.

Well we're getting the 3 wagon, so who cares?

Question is, are they going to continue selling the wagon here after this comes out?

Do not want. Dear god that thing is ugly... Almost as ugly as the 5 series GT....

Those GT designs looks like a 3 series wearing a ProCap helmet.

Weird, bmw statement was they stopped making GT due to pore sales number.

It's not too bad, and when compared (and only then) with a 5 Series GT it could be considered pretty. Would anyone logically buy it over the much nicer and cheaper wagon/estate? I doubt it...

Still, I do rather like the front of the M-Sport version.

Well, I do like it, since I seem to be defending the GT's on the internet alot of the time I'll jump in with a few replies...

They don't sell well in your part of the world, that's for sure, but they've done as well as a niche product needs to elsewhere, particularly China apparently.

Well, styling is subjective, there are plenty of people that don't like the hearse like look of a wagon, and Americans never seem to have gone a bundle on the wagon style either. As far as practicality goes, the 3GT is built on the LWB 3 platform, meaning it's more spacious inside than the F31 tourer, so it really depends on what you call practical; load lugging, go for a tourer. But, if you want more space for yourself and your passengers then the tourer is no better than the Saloon, and that's where the GT comes in.

...

The US does get a bum-deal with some of the more exciting BMW's, but BMW still make plenty of cars for the enthusiast, and they do appear to more driver focused than the respective AMG offerings, which mostly seem to be about destroying tyres and making Jeremy Clarkson say "POOWEEEER". What does Mercedes offer the enthusiast that BMW doesn't?

Looks like a 328i swallowed an X6.

It actually does.

Jesus they look like they're about to flip over.

Hardly. This car is about to flip over...

Nope, BMW acknowledged that Sales in the US were poor and it had not done a very good job of replacing the (even slower selling) E61 5 series tourer. But they never stopped it. They've offered a 520d GT version to make it more accessible.

Logically they may well... if they can get over their general reaction. As I said above, the Tourer is only more practical if you need height in the boot/trunk.. other than that what does a tourer offer - It's a one trick pony? I've an E46 320d, and trust me, it's not like you'll never be wanting for more space - they're not exactly massive in the back.

I think the M-sport version looks great, the bigger more aggresive front is better than the F30 M-sport in my opinion, more like 80's shark noses.

Personally, I'd go for one over the tourer, my budget for a company car next year doesn't go much above a 320i M-sport saloon, so I doubt a GT would be feasible, either way, I haven't even looked at a Tourer, and I'm already driving one.

I really like it! I've always been a sucker for a solid, sloped roof line from A-pillar to hatch. One of these would look great sitting next to the Z3 coupe in the garage.
