Facts at a glance

Engine: 4.4 liter version of S65B40, making ~450 hp
Weight: 1,490 kg / 3,285 lbs.
Price: 115,000 EUR including 19% VAT

No info on US or UK availability

Features

  • 7-Speed M DCT dual clutch transmission
  • Adjustable suspension (bump and rebound --ride height adjustment unknown) (presumably no EDC is available)
  • 255/35-19 front, 285/30-19 rear tires on unique 19" wheels (Press release reads "225/35" front tires, but close ups of the front tires shows they are clearly 255/35s)
  • Adjustable front splitter and rear wing
  • Macrolon windows
  • Radio/Nav, AC and rear seat delete (presumably iDrive delete as well)
  • Factory roll cage (looks like a half cage, not a full cage)
  • Lightweight titanium exhaust

Looks it's aimed directly at the 911 GT3 RS.

that is sweeeeet.

With a seven speed, it may be the little bit that edges it past the GT3.

Didn't catch that in the press release! where where you quoting it from?

should be proper manual. that alone would help to drop ~100kg more.

M DCT is only 20 kb / 45 lbs. heavier than the full manual gearbox.

I didn't quote anything from a press release...

I just about crapped when I saw the first X5 M. I missed the model release announcement and thought some douche had just slapped the //M badge onto his SUV and was thoroughly offended/amused. But this is good.

Edit:

While it seems a noble attempt to steal Porsche's 911 sales, I don't think this will be able to compete directly with the 997 911 RS. Porsche almost always has the edge on pure performance; but of course, a lot more factors into that when a person wants a car. On the circuit, though, bring it on.

^^ There is an informal tradition in this forum of offering news with a little tongue in cheek humor or clever remark in the subject line. As much as I'd like for Dr. Segler and the entire BMW board of directors to beg for my forgiveness for pissing away a chunk of the M brand's credibility, I doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Looks like an awesome car, perhaps even more so than the CSL was. Though I'm still a Porsche person, so I'd still be picking up the keys to the GT3 RS.

^^^ What he said.

But still, it's cool to see BMW building a track-looking car like this thing.

Nice!!!

This car in black please...!!

Can't wait for the first videos with the new exhaust.....

spyrrari.

Unnacceptable. Cancel the X5/X6M, and then, and only then, will we forgive you.

We'll happily accept this, though. Not as make-up.

I think having one of these in my garage beside a regular M3 (since I don't have a regular M3, please send one, also) will change my opinion on the X6M.

Of course, send me an X6M so I can decide, too. :D

YES!!! I knew BMW wouldn't disappoint on a more radical variant of the M3 :sly: Now I just hope it makes it to the US :)

My god!! Falling in love with that car!!!

Anyway, this really made me happy a lot!!! Now unfortunately I can't own one as because I'm still young :( But hey this is also a sign that BMW M are heading towards the correct path on making a highly performance road legal cars. I'm not really that dissapointed with the X5/X6M though....

Next stop, 2011 BMW M5!!

Looks like the sort of thing that the M Division should be working on rather than X5/X6, which are clearly only there due to pressure from the BMW marketing department.

Very nice, but a GT3 RS would still be where my money would be heading.

Dang, weighs as much as my friend's E36 M3  They've done a good job getting the weight down.

I do want.

I hope it's not too late to make it in GT5.:D
It's the only way I'll get near one :(

-> Promising car, a CSL sequel, nice. The problem is the color is more suited on a 1-series M (M135tii?) than this E92; oh well the E46 CSL took my favorite color for the GTS. Can't wait on how will it perform in GT5. :sly:

...And stop making ugly useless cars period. Then I might consider forgiving.. And this is more of the same in my eyes. Has nothing on the Porsche.

Want one. Badly. In matte black.

Matte black is played out already. I'm fine with the Safety Cone orange.

I would prefer a tradtional 3-pedal 6-speed, though. More fun to drive, even if it isn't any faster.

But not yours?

I agree here. It certainly was fun to put the DSG boxes in every special edition back when they were new and exciting. But now that they're in everything from a $1.25 Veyron to a $12.5k Golf, the novelty has worn off a bit. So you should go with the enthusiast transmission for a car for the enthusiasts. See: R32.
