BMW McLearn... What's up with this thing?

Hey guys,

I’ve been reading on these forums for some time now and have yet to see any good settings for this thing. Can anybody help me out with it? So far, I’m left feeling very disappointed with this car. I know that among regular high-end sports cars, the McLearn is this huge hulk of a car, but I’m afraid that when compared against the super cars in this game, I’m left with little more then a bad case of dust inhalation. So, pretty please, can somebody throw me a bone here with a few tuning tips. I’m trying to use it for most of the extreme races, but end up getting smoked by the likes of the 787b and so on. I’m not bad at setting the lower end cars, but this beast is another story altogether. I’ve got all the bells and whistles on it as is, only because if I didn’t, I’d get smoked even worse. As you can probably tell, I’m pretty frustrated with this thing and am about to sell if I can’t get it under control soon. Thanks for any help you can offer. :ouch:

P.S. If it’s of any help to any of you tuners that may be reading this, I like to break late going into turns. But with this thing, the weight and speed just carry me right off the road. I’m also having a bit of a hard time getting it to “bite” coming out of corners as well.

787B = Custom built race car
McLaren F1 = road car turned into a race car

Of course it's going to lose....

1'07.686 at Deep forest on racing hards- the best I could clock in this beast- just might do it for you to smoke the wankels 'er renesis'. I am sure the car would do better on a big track like Seca. Thank you for the challenge daan.

LMAO thats quite a response and although the simple solution would just be to use another car sometimes people like to use the same car no matter what and besides that remark is kinda rude dont you think? :grumpy:

The McLaren is not a first-class Le Mans car, period. Careful tuning is going to improve it, but it has no chance of getting into the upper echelon of these cars.

It'll be a fun "project car" for us, like the XJR-9, CLK-GTR (which is actually a CLK-LM, as live4speed pointed out), and Peugeot 905. That's all it will ever be.

The Mclaren F1 was orginally the head of Mclaren's Gran Prix team trying to create something, a race car for the road if you will, with no comprimises to issues to cost, etc. But it was nevertheless practical.

It was powered by a 6.0(?) litre BMW V12 powerplant.

Competing in LM was an afterthought. The longtail in the game is aerodynamically superoor to the original road cars, but due to restrictions, its power is (was) cut from 680 to 600 (intakes), and it therefore cannont reach the 240+ MPH the road car can. It competed in the GT1 class, the modern day GTS?

It won a few races, but then Porsche and Benz came in with their scratch made cars the GT1 and the GTR, which of course since it had no road car restrictions, wiped the floor with the Mclaren.

The 787B was one of the latter Group Cs, which basically could have as much power as they wanted, and was fuel limited. By the F1 was a road car, so there is NO comparision there, in terms of power and in terms of aerodynamics. The most competition you will find for the F1 is possibly the CLK-GTR (although the GTR was dubious in its origins) and the latter day GTS cars, such as the Viper, Corvette etc.

... lest we trivialize this noble vehicle, this, um, "also ran"; the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most race ready PASSENGER vehicle EVER sold PERIOD :). Like many other cars included in Gran Turismo, the F1 gives you a chance to experience- and possibly learn some- history.

**** BREAKING NEWS! ****

This just in:

Gran Turismo 4 player "Zardoz", known for his wordy, bombastic posts on numerous GT4 forums, has announced that he has performed his first 2,160-degree spinout on a GT4 track.

The milestone was achieved on the Sarth II track as he was testing a BMW McLaren F1 GTR. It occurred just before the high-speed right turn that leads into the famous Indianapolis corner as Zardoz lost control of the touchy machine after letting it drift slightly off the pavement.

The car began a slow spin to the right as Zardoz tried to steer into it, but the car instantly snapped around to the left and began the series of spectacular gyrations, ending up back on the pavement facing the correct way on the course. The replay confirmed that no contact was made with the barrier walls.

"That's the first-ever for me", said the grizzled Gran Turismo veteran. "I'm sure that's the first sixer I've ever had. No surprise that I did it in that POS. It gives you no slack at all. One little screw-up and it just takes your head clean off."

Zardoz, known thoughout the Gran Turismo world for his admiration of Japanese car racing console game developers, vowed that the frightening incident would not sour him on the car.

"Hey, they can't all be like Pescarolos, you know. We've got to have some cars like the McLaren to keep us from getting lazy."

Thanks a ton for these settings, I knew that somebody around here would be up to it. I’ll give em a try ASAP. I’ll keep you posted as I get my results… Thanks

Also thanks to Slip for his history of this great car… I just wish that this game would allow us to mod this thing up to it’s full potential…

P.S. As a side note, I could never get over people who bash typos but can’t even spell to save their lives… It appears as though hypocrisy is not without it’s champions… :p
