I was wondering, would anyone be interested in running a BMW race series? I had the thought yesterday of running a two class series (550Pp and 500Pp) of modified production BMWs. This isn't a sign up (yet), just a feeler to see if it would be worth my time to put in the effort to make sure all of the selected cars are evenly matched at their respective performance levels and whatnot.

So, if I were to do this how many of you would care to give it a go? And, do any of you have suggestions for me in making this?

YES! I was planning to start one myself in spring. Long time from now, but yeah. I was going to do M3 vs Z4. That was just a thought though.

Will this feature advance restrictions? Such as individual HP and weight restrictions? I know you said PP, but just asking anyways. Also, are race cars allowed? Premiums only? Kinda discriminating, but what else would people drive? Maybe the M3s...

How many races are you planning to have in this series? If it to be created.

I'd like to join, I'm quite bored as I'm only in one series and don't race anymore on GT5 then that. Kinda sad, but I can't find any good racing in public lobbies.

About the Series/Code of Conduct
I decided to create this series after running several events in concurrence with the BMWCCA, and will be modeled after it as much as the game allows. This race series will be run in a casual sort of manner, but will adhere to the GTP OLR. You will be given leeway for a couple mishaps, but if you consistently fail to follow these guidelines you will be removed from the series, and not allowed to compete any further.

Regulations
Tires will be Racing Hard
Aero is allowed
All modifications are allowed
Cars will run at their respective performance levels as dictated by their class (500/550)

Race Day Procedure
will be opened between 7:45 and 8:00 EST
Racers are allowed to drive freely until 8:10
At 8:10 the track will be reset, and qualifying will begin. Once you have entered the course and completed a timed lap it is asked that you don't leave.
8:30 the race will start
The length will be roughly 30 minutes, getting you out of there by 9:00
There is a mandatory pitstop required before the end of the race

Penalties
Damage will be set to Light
Penalties will be turned off
Any questionable incidents (including cutting of corners) will be turned over to the GTP ORB for review.
Depending on the seriousness of the incident 20 - 40 seconds will be added to your final finish time, and what ever positions that would dock you will be removed.

At this point I haven't tested enough cars to give a definitive list, but here is a list of times from a quick session at Suzuka on racing hards:

2002 Turbo (500): 2:17.8xx
M Coupe (500): 2:18.1xx
M3 GTR (550): 2:10.6xx
M3 CSL (550): 2:11.0xx
Concept 1 SeriesTii (550): 2:10.5xx

I would like to keep it as simple as possible in regards to restrictions, but if getting in and having individual power limits is necessary I'm game provided it gets enough interest.

As for other cars the full list of production BMWs is as follows (proposed PP in parenthesis):
120d ’04 (500)
120i ’04 (500)
135i Coupe ’07 (500)
330i ’05 (500)
2002 Turbo ’73 (500)
Concept 1 Series tii ’07 (550)
M3 ’04 (500)
M3 Coupe ’07 (550)
M3 CSL ’03 (550)
M3 GTR ’03 (550)
M5 ’05 (550)
M5 ’08 (550)
M Coupe ’98 (500)
Z4 ’03 (500)
Z4 M Coupe ’08 (500)

I think I got the 2002 Turbo, M3 CSL, M3 Coupe, 120d and M5.

To save on testing time, you could run just the PP restriction (but no ballast). Then give ballast handicaps for the first 3 positions. eg. 1st takes extra 20kg, 10kg for 2nd and 5kg for 3rd.

That way not all cars are equal but the field can become closer due to the handicaps applied throughout the season.

Possibly, but being as OCD as I am, I am sure I will wind up doing the testing regardless.

I'd be up for this big time. I love the idea of hatfields idea. Also a good idea would for sign up would be a limited amount of one type of car on the field. Like say no more than 2 of the same type. I just have a feeling that there will be nothing but M3's on the grid that's all. Just an idea. But I'd be in for sure

Well, there are four different types of M3s to choose from, so there will be a little variety there.

Class will be run with 8 cars at 550 and 8 at 500, if by some miracle this took off and more than 16 signed up (I personally would be happy with 8 - 10 total :p) It'd be up to 16 of each, with two separate races at different times and the final championship race being the fastest 8 of each in one and the slower 8 of each in the other.

Count me in. I'm currently racing in EliteDreamers MINI challenge... and I would love to start another once this one is complete.

I thought about them but I was under the impression that they wouldn't be competitive.
If you could make one good enough to compete I'd say go for it. This is open to any production BMW

I would say Challenge Accepted! But, after a full series of MINIs I think I'll switch to a BMW. Currently our MINI's are at ~434PP & 226hp - 2:23.X at Suzuka on Racing Hards.

They would have a long way to go to compete then. I dunno that you would find that extra 6 seconds by bumping it to 500, but I could be wrong. Tests shall be done!

I personally am torn between the M3 GTR and the 2002 Turbo as they are both a couple of my favorite cars in the game.

I'm leaning toward the Z4 M. It might not compete with the M3s... but I just love that car. Or... the M Coupe ’98. OR! I've got a fairly quick 120d. Grrr so many choices.

I would deffo be interested in this,

I would use the Concept 1 SeriesTii and I would love to enter but alas my PS3 has kicked the bucket :(

From the driving I've done with them I've gotten roughly even times for them all aside from the GTR/2002 because I have easily twice the seat time in those cars than any other in game aside from maybe the Shelby GT350 and Corvette ZR1

The Minis won't make the PP limit. The Premium one fully tuned is about 450pp i think.

It's manufactured by McLaren. That's like trying to say a 1951 Porsche 356 is a Volkswagen because it has a hopped up Beetle engine in the boot. No splitting hairs here ;)

Idk how that applies. The engine was built by BMW. That porche with a 356 is a world engine, so lots of manufactures use it, porche just added to it.

Anyway I'm excited for this race

The engine in the first few years was a Volkswagen OHV flat-4, but that's beside the point. You know what I meant lol

It should be interesting. I'm debating running it simultaneously with my vintage series, or wait till that plays out, so now it's just a matter of when as opposed to if.

Simultaneously? How will that work? Also, are aero parts allowed? I didn't see an answer to it unless I missed something.

Two hosts if it gets that big. Otherwise, it'll all just run together.

And Aero is allowed. The regulations are simply 550/500Pp Production BMWs

Oh ok. That would be cool to run in the same server as your series. That is what you meant right? :D Would be some awesome fun. A little difficult to look after those 2002s though.
