If they had uprated the engine significantly, they would have given it over 200 hp.

As it is, it was limited to about 165 hp to make sure the engine lasted long enough for the warranty.

Same thing they did with the MSP. Limited to 170 hp.

Both cars require some modification to take more than 10 psi of boost.

The point of both cars was to give them just enough power to be fun, but not so much as to be unreliable.

And they threw that all out the window with the MS3.

Edit: There's got to be a better place for that air filter on that LS3 Miata, right? I mean, right next to the head and above the header? Good for taking in really, really hot air...

The price is a bit questionable but if the MX5 is in good shape and has maintenance records I'd consider it if you like MX5's.

Err, with a car that size and weight who gives a rats *** about sucking in hot air. I bet the car still makes 400bhp. The MX5 that I drove with a SBF 302 was insane with 250bhp, with an LS3 engine I cannot fathom it.

In the NB swaps the filter is straight over behind the drivers side headlight. Unfortunately in the NA that isn't possible since that space is occupied by the headlight itself. The NB physically has more room under the hood to move stuff around. (hood sits higher, radiator support is further forward)

Edit: The base engine you would get in one of our swaps is the GM Performance LS3 rated at 480hp. (crank)

Oil frothing?

My mistake, this was actually only on our built 2.0 stroker motors. Oil squirted on the bottom of the piston was working it's way into the ringlands and burning up. So these engines had an issue with burning oil. No squirters = no burning oil. The regular built 1.6 and 1.8 engines still use them.

I realize this is gonna sound blasphemous...but Modern Day Cobra, anyone? >:

We hear that all the time. 👍 (except our cars actually handle)

Edit: Sorry for the thread jack. :p

If there were to be a Mazdaspeed Miata, I would want to have the engine from the Mazdaspeed3 in it, then it would go like Hell.

Me too! 👍 Are you listening Mazda?

Too heavy. Too damn complicated.

I'd rather have the current 2.0, built with Cosworth parts (or something similar), with the regular injection system (none of that expensive and fiddly direct injection stuff) and about 300 hp.

Well, the search continues. I went to the dealer today, and the car is sold.

If you really want one I'm sure you can find it on Ebay and maybe if it's out of town make it a nice road trip back.

I'm gonna keep saving money and wait it out. I will be looking for pretty much MSM NB's or a nice lower mileage NC with a 6-speed.

Sucks it sold. Among MSM deals, that one was pretty good. Everyone at FM here agreed with me that $12,500 was a smokin deal. 👍

Ohh, makes sense now. I would assume whoever bought it would haggle the price a bit, so they may have gotten it for even less that 12,500. No way to be 100% sure though.

Its Chicago? I'm surprised. I've only seen a handful since new, only one that was used.

The hell are you finding all these low mileage and low priced Mazdaspeed Miatas?

All I can say is, it must be destiny or something. :dopey: But after this one, my MSM findings have dried up. I still want to drive an NC before I make a decision though.

So, I drove the MSM and it was amazing. DO WANT! They want 13,300 for it and the salesman was playing the game with us. Said he had a guy who already had a deposit on it. If its not sold by monday, I'm gonna call my insurance and see how much it would be and go from there. Wish me luck. If this falls through, IDK what I'm gonna look for. I pretty much want a Miata now and nothing else.

Have you driven a normal Miata? Have you considered all the things you might want with the money saved between the two cars?

I have driven a normal Miata. I want to stress that I will not be modifying any car I get regardless of it being MSM, normal NB, NC etc. We'll see what happens, I'm not gonna rush it. If it works out then it was meant to be, otherwise keep shopping. I actually like car shopping unlike most people.

So, the insurance rate will be the same with the MSM as the Prelude, now I need to get negotiating, then get a loan. I really hope this works out in the end, I've never gotten a loan before, and I have also never had a car payment. wish me luck again.

Ok, I changed the name of the thread because I don't know if I really want the MSM. The turbo, though I know its reliable, just scares me because of how many miles I put on my cars. I need it to last, and a turbo is something that I dont really need in the mix.

That being said, I did find something that spiked my interest once again. A 2003 Miata Special edition with 21k miles on it. It has a 6 speed, leather interior, and its a cool shade of blue. The only thing that is confusing me is the prices of miatas in general. This SE, they are asking 12,800 for it, thats $500 more than the other dealer was asking for the Mazdaspeed. Is the SE a more desirable car than the MSM or is someone off here?
