Ok we all know the AI is pants....But can you beat the AI without punting in a lower class car. I realise this isnt gonna gain you much XP....However you will become a better driver....Why....Because you will try to take on better cars with comfort tyre's and less BHP.....You will restart and curse when the AI pits you and you will learn to avoid conflict. I restarted and lost the will to grind so now I have a dont buy a car policy. If Im towing for cars Ill do special or License. At the extreme I buy second hand.....If you get bored spend some of the money you earned comming second or third but dont go over the top. keep it in the groove.

My first is the French Car championship with a Berlinette RS coupe 99..

Edit: Outlandish claims will be asked to provide photo evidence.....I hear photoshop.....I mean Photobucket is very good......No photoshops please!

I really miss the A-Spec points. I used to love hunting for some POS to bring home 200 points on the lower level races. I even managed to get that Midgett II truck to get me 200 with the worst tires some extra weight and a heavy dose of NOS.

I already do this, never saw the point in just trouncing the a.i. in a vastly superior car, so I always look at the typical opponents and pick a car accordingly.

I've done most a-spec races with slower cars and sometimes I use better tires. Definitely makes it more fun! I don't see the point when people try to enter the minolta in every race they could possibly can. Obviously PD left a room for people who don't want to try or for those who wants to finish the game quickly. Nothing wrong with that but at the end, it's a waste of the game and it spoils most of the fun in the races.

If it's a track i like then i sometimes handicap myself either by lowering hp or tires or something. If its a track/challenge that's giving me a headache then i'll give in and spank the ai with a beast. The long version of cape ring (i think) is one of my least favourite tracks.

I used to do this on GT4 after finishing all the races and stuff.
I'd go arcade and set the A.I. to 10 (race cars) and take them on in a 30 lap race around say Tokyo in a touring car. It really tests your skill and you have to consider your pit options and tires and things a lot more. I didn't win every time but it sure was a challenge.
I expect I'll do this with '5 once I've finished the majority of the game (in 2013)!

Unfortunately this is what ruined GT5. There are lil/no restrictions to the races so you can bring in the fastest cars in the world to just whoop up on the slowest cars. It killed the game.

There needs to be a few restrictions that make the race at least some sort of a competition then there needs to be a hardcore mode for all races which have even higher restrictions which put you up against basically exact cars. Making you search/scour the game for that car with the slightest edge while still sticking to the restrictions. For example HP/weight/Tire restrictions or a stock vehicles with street tire and under 300hp. This would have made the game much better and by having a hardcore mode you could make it for people who suck and people who are good and then greatly increase the XP awarded for the hardcore mode.

oh well!

A fun challenge is using a MK1 VW Gold '76 to do the Scwarhzald event in the extreme series on Nurburgring.

I've been doing it do have a break from the grind and I've managed 2nd by 1 second... :(
It's really fun and you can usually get a 4 second lead before the final straight however that's when it get's tricky.

I'd recommend it, My Golf is fully tuned too but you could probably try it with a lesser version to be even more challenged. :)

I've read this three times and still can't make head nor tail of it.

Tip - sentences end with a single . Not 6......

Is the EXP dished out after race winnings a way to gauge the inferiority / superiority of cars on the grid? I must've got 17** and 18** points by using an MR2 in the Japanese 80's races.

I pick one of the typical cars but usually use slightly worse tyres than the AI (Assuming the AI is using the best allowed, which judging from their braking distance vs the slightly worse tyres, I believe they are)
