I have been having issues with getting the entrance down on tracks. It seems like the front wheels lock up under hard braking and cause me to understeer slightly into the corner which then messes up the exit speed of the corner. I have noticed people on-line typically run abs on 1 which is what I do, but what settings do people use for brake balance or possibly could my front compression be set too high? I do tune my cars for each track changing cambers and things, but braking into corners is my problem.

What sort of tracks you are having trouble with ? What car do you drive when you have this issue ? Tires used and did you use ABS ? What sort of brake balance you are usually running ?

First of all, most understeer when hard braking is caused by too much front bias brake balance, low grip tires were used, and too late braking into the corner.

A bad braking technique is also great contributor, try to do threshold braking. You can watch my videos, they could give you ideas the sort of braking technique that would help. Check the Maserati, Countach and Stratos videos, they have several nice hard braking into difficult corners. I'll link them here, I hope you don't mind :

Maserati GranTurismo S '08 at Motegi Full Road Course, 2:22.683 - CM tires

Watch the full lap to see how early braking should be and most of them in straight line.

Lancia Stratos '73 at Nurburgring GP/F, 2:47.090 - CH tires

With difficult to handle like Stratos unique handling, trail braking is a challenge, giving smooth braking early is a good practice.

Lamborghini Countach 25Th Anniversary '88 at Rome, 1:23.518 - CM tires

Heavy car like Countach will need extra care when braking, sometimes finding the right braking line defines a good lap.

For more videos, you can check my thread over at GT5 videos sub forum, I'll be uploading video at Daytona Road Course with Dodge Viper GTS - stock, CM tires-no ABS, the difficult to approach 1st left hander is one of it's unique challenge.

Thanks for the information. The videos do help to see how others techniques. I am pretty much applying the brakes in the same areas as you are however I noticed that I get on the brakes harder than you which could be what is causing me to lock em up. You applied them much smoother I think which is hard to do when you are racing someone. I always want to wait to the last sec and get on them hard.

I run a typical setting balance: 7F n 5R with abs:1. Always on racing softs pretty much and have trouble in every car and track not just one area specificlly. I actually can hold the car inline on the Indy Road Course :D

A good method to practice is to do arcade races against AI, set to whatever difficulty levels that you are comfortable with, run at your favorite track, follow them from behind bumper to bumper then try to out brake them. It's a good way to practice reflexes and braking timing as well distance judgment. Try to avoid hitting the AI of course
