I have the clubsport pedals with a load cell brake and after messing about I have decided that abs off and all assists off is way more fun for me however braking is super sensitive and I am having trouble "feeling it" in Gt. I have been playing Forza since 2 and skipping all Gt games until now (for some dumb reason). I am over braking or under braking and cant seem to nail it down.

I now wish I had not let the frame rates keep me away from GT for so long. I am one that is vert sensitive to frame rates but only because I would never give my self time to get used to a game unless it had a rock stable frame rate. I really robbed myself of a wonderful driving experience. I won't knock Forza but I will say that to me GT feels far more visceral and "mean" compared to Forza when you push the cars. Forza is more clinical and I feel the cars are more predictable and I found no abs braking a lot easier. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Read this first: Praiano's findings on braking in GT6

The most important things about noABS braking in GT6 are the differences between racing and standard brakes, and finding a brake balance that works for your driving/braking style. Standard brakes are far less sensitive to brake pressure with ABS off and the braking distances are the same as with racing brakes. You can run much higher settings with standard brakes giving you more pedal travel before lock up.

Finding a balance that works for you depends on how you drive and how you brake. If you do most of your braking in a straight line you can use higher values on the rear to get the shortest stopping distances. If you like to trail brake down to the apex and use slight brake pressure during cornering to orient the car, then usually you want a little less rear bias. This you figure out on the track, each car is different and no one setting works for every car.

My suggestion during the learning phase is to stick to lower BB's and use a higher than normal front brake bias to get a feel for things. Mistakes will lead to the car locking up the front as opposed to the rear and can be corrected just by lifting the throttle for a second.

Seems there is a bit of a front brake bias by default. What is a good stating point on biasing the brakes forward a bit. Thanks for the thoughtful advice.

With standard brakes and street cars on stock tires it varies a lot but something like 4/2 on FR's, 3/3 on FF's and 4wd's, 3/1 on MR's.

Did u play forza with simulation steering on, and have u played fm5 with simulation steering on? Also do u have 2 wheels or is there a wheel that works with both ps3 and 360 or the one?

Do you use a headset?

I find it a million times easier to detect the early phases of lock up When using my headphones. I find the way PD modeled the tyre sounds works really well and is your best tool for no abs.

I hear the tyres chirping long before I get any real FFB (or drop off of FFB) response. If you are waiting for full FFB drop off before you release pressure its way too late, you have already fully locked atleast one wheel but probably both fronts.

After dialling in the power of the brakes via BB, I jump on the brakes full power at the braking point, then as soon as I can tell it's about to start locking, ease off and roll the car into the corner. With abs off I tend to get much better turn in and trail braking results, than with exactly the same set up but abs 1.

Abs 1 will give you the same braking results as abs 0, it's just much harder to detect when you are braking too much, and abs has kicked in.

Both abs 1 and 0 give the best results with 80-95% pressure but as I say, I find it easier to find this point with abs 0 and headphones.

After getting everything dialed in, you can predict what the car is about to do and pre-empt it, therefore proactively driving the car, rather than reacting to it.

Have fun!

Reacting.. That is what it feels like. I am not good enough to put the cars where I want them yet. To answer another question, yes I played Forza 3-4 with all assist off even in R1 and still have a top 100 time on Bermese Alps (spelling?) with a 787B.

Have not played Forza 5 because they dropped Fanatec support and lost me as a customer which is what made me go back to the Gt series after 10 years. I realize I should not have been such a frame rate snob because now that I have given the game a chance I am loving it despite the occasional frame rate issue.

I find if you put it in sharpen mode at 1080p it is very acceptable in Full screen mode. Can't stand cockpit views since I use a wheel. I hate seeing a wheel in front of my wheel. I am thinking about picking up Gt 5 cheap at this point and just immerse myself in the series again.

Sim racing website said to hold down your brake pedal before the start of the race. This will calibrate it. It worked for me as I had the same issue with a sensitive brake petal.
