I searched "brake" in titles only and didn't see this specific topic.

I usually have my stick shift hooked up to my CSR, but my right shoulder has been causing me problems lately, and rather than quit the game entirely, I decided to just use the paddle shifters. Being less difficult than using the clutch/shifter, I decided to try and give left foot braking a chance. Now, I actually used my left foot to brake for years and years as Logitech DFs were my wheels of choice, and I basically had to relearn braking using my right foot. Combined with learning the clutch and h-pattern, that was an arduous journey that took nearly as long as learning to use a wheel did in the first place. The experiencing of going back to the right proved not nearly as difficult. Granted, I was not nearly as smooth, and since I run with ABS off, I was locking up quite a bit more than usual, but it was fun to go back to my old style for at least the weekend.

So, it got me wondering if there were any people who actually regularly switch between the two in-game. If so, do you decide which depending on whether the car has a clutch, or something else? Reading a couple of the earlier threads, I saw a few people who used their right in real life, but their left in game. For those people, how much more difficult is it for you to switch to right foot braking in the game?

I use left foot brake with paddles in game.

I use left and right feet to brake when using h pattern in game; that depends on whether I am shifting for a corner or not.

I use right foot braking in real life racing.

Once you get use to doing it both ways, you'll be able to switch back and forth with no real adjustment period.

Wow, alternating in the middle of a single race. I suppose I could try, but damn does that ever sound like it would lead to "foot confusion."

Currently right foot accel, left foot brake while using H pattern with no ABS. In RL i use right foot brake, but when there is no risk, i try a sneaky left brake ;)

I wish i could swap in the game but I have a playseat with a silly mounting pole in the middle... NOTE: Driver if your buying a sim setup, get one without a pole in the middle! :P

I know that the pole in midle is no good
7 sense :)

I right foot brake with the paddles. It probably slows me down, but I'm used to right-foot braking in real life and I'm too lazy to learn a seperate habit just for the game. Back before I drove IRL I left foot braked with a stupid old MadCatz wheel.

I use whatever feels right/quickest at the time really. I exclusively right foot brake IRL, and on my sim rig I'm happy to right foot brake with shifter and/or clutch, as applicable for the car. And if I'm using the paddles, or in some situations with a shifter, I left foot brake. Helpful for balancing the car and controlling the weight when turning in. That can mean mixing both methods up one corner to the next, all depends on the situation. Drove like that as far back as Live For Speed in 2003ish, and since H gated shifters were available shortly after.

Whatever's faster is surely a personal preference, and a question of realism vs speed sometimes.

Same here. The thing is though, I'm always slightly faster when using paddle shift & left foot brake. I only ever use the clutch when cruising for fun, as even 1 missed gear can spoil a race.

When drifting I left foot brake if I'm chasing another car. I am still trying to perfect this on my g27, it's a technique used alot in all types of competitive driving.

When I drive manual, it's usually right foot braking, especially for doing heel and toes for downshifting.

I left foot brake when I'm using the paddles, and when in manual I need to adjust the brake finely enough without downshifting :dopey:

There's an old thread already about this but instead, asking if you brake with your left foot and right foot.

Going to the topic, I brake with my right foot just like in real life because I tend to steer with my left foot doing the brakes.

I, currently, only left-foot bake, but I don't think I'll change feet once I get my drivers licence. Well, when I'm not driving "for real", that is.

From years of running a league my league mates and I have noticed quite an interesting effect of right vs left foot braking, which is that most of the guys on the league that left foot brake use more fuel than the guys who use thier right foot for both throttle and brake, it can start to add up to quite a lot of diference in endurance races.

If I COULD drive, I'd accel and brake with my right foot and clutch with my left, because left foot braking requires more effort -3-

I know I'm lazy.

I'm assuming that you have never drove a car with a clutch? Am I right?

I'm guessing he'd be a Go Kart racer.

I'm the same as most- right foot in the real world and when using the clutch, left foot with the sequential. My left leg gets awful bored when i drive an auto in the real world though :indiff:

I have, i driven a manual car and an automatic car.

You are correct Hayden xD

My apologies, when driving a manual car I brake with my right.

If I'm not stopping to a halt I do brake with my left, it's a habit
