Break In?

Last night I bought a Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG (R230) ‘04 to try and get 1,000HP out of it and it doesn't look so convincing as of right now.

It has 50 miles on it but I've only gained around 5 or 6 horsepower, is this normally how slow cars gain horsepower when you try to break them in? :odd:

I ask this because my Audi wagon got a lot of power very quickly but this Benz doesn't seem to be gaining it nearly as fast.

Although, I think it depends on the car, once you reach ~200 miles, it should be fully broken in. Some cars get there slower I think and not all cars go up the same amount.

I've read that break in hp is a percentage of total horsepower, but I can't remember where I read it on here.

Well if that's true then this car won't be near 1,000HP and I've seen many of the same models with that much horsepower...

Maybe it will jump up in bigger steps once it's fully broken in.

One thing to do is double-check that you did indeed buy and apply all tuning upgrades. I was having a similar issue with a car and found that even though I bought Racing Exhaust, it was not applied in the Tuning menu. I checked the box and the HP came up to peak.

I have found this happen two times so far. Once when doing a race mod on a 2010 Camaro SS and once when doing the race mod on a '70 Challenger. Something to look for anyway.

I've installed everything and I even did an oil change when I first got it which gave me some power so that might be why but i'll just have to wait and see I guess.

Edit: Thanks for your help though. 👍

After patch 1.11 RM cars don't get the race exhaust box ticked even tho it's there, the RM Vettes sound sooo much better without it (and probably some of the other V8 RM's).

I thought it had to do with V1.10, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the confirmation of the bug. 👍

To the OP, the oil change may indeed be why it's going up slower, since some of it came with the oil change already.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out. 👍

C_C, get your bobs to fang it around Nurb for the 4 hour enduro whilst you sleep. After that give it an oil change and see what you get 👍

You should be able to get 1000bhp (999bhp in list view) from the SL 65 AMG (R230) 04. You must do over 200 miles (210 to be sure) then change the oil. This will be the max you can ever get out of the car. Once you start to go over the 4000 mile mark an engine rebuild regains a few bhp, but over 10000miles you start permanently reducing the power regardless of rebuilds and oil changes.

btw, the SL 600 (R230) 04 will give you 1024bhp (mid range turbo) and is 2kg lighter… fewer pp though.
