Summer Series 2014

upload_2014-7-2_16-28-55.png

Hi there, I am fairly new to racing online in this sort of series due to lack of spare time. However I have recently finished college for Summer which has freed up my schedule and led me into creating this Racing series.

The Concept

This series, whilst hopefully being competitive, is on the whole a competition open to drivers of any skill level to enjoy. The series will hopefully, depending on its popularity, be a prelude to a much longer season once the summer is over, but I will talk more about this towards the end of the season.

The Cars
For this championship there will be two category's competing, GT3 and GT4. The GT3 cars are thorough bred racers where as the GT4 cars are closer related to their road going counter parts, just like the real British GT championship. Open the attached PDF Document to read the car list and specifications before continuing.

Sporting Regulations

The event will be split into two races, a feature race, and a sprint race. The first race of the event will be the feature race, which will be the longer of the two and more points will be available. Both category's will race in the same race but obviously compete for different points. (more on this later in the post)

Pre-race

I will open a room approximately 1 Hour before the listed race 1 start time on the event calendar (see later in post). For the opening 30 minutes there will be open practice allowing for changes to setup etc. Once the practice is over, as long as everyone is in the room and entered I will give a 5 minute warning to qualifying. There will then be a 20 minute qualifying session to decide grid slots for race 1. This procedure will be similar for the second race, the practice session will begin immediately after race 1 and will last 20 minutes and qualifying will be 10 minutes long.

Race
Besides the race length, the regulations for both races will be the same. There are no regulations when it comes to tyres or pitstops, giving a free run at strategy for all drivers. The race will begin under a standing start. Any incidents during the race, i.e corner cutting, suspiciously fast lap times and contact. Should be reported to me after the race, give me a lap number and driver, and i will review the incident on replay. drivers found to be gaining an unfair advantage, will face appropriate action which will vary from penalty points to race bans.

Also a quick word on mics, I don't have one anyway but for those that do, it is fine to use them during practice sessions and in testing but during the race and qualifying they must be disabled to avoid distractions to other drivers.

Points System- GT3
Race 1:

1st place = 25 points
2nd place = 18 points
3rd place = 15 points
4th place = 12 points
5th place = 10 points
6th place = 8 points
7th place = 6 points
8th place = 4 points
9th place = 2 points
10th place = 1 point

Race 2:

1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 8 points
3rd place = 6 points
4th place = 5 points
5th place = 4 points
6th place = 3 points
7th place = 2 points
8th place = 1 point

Pole position for both races will be worth 3 points

Points System- GT4
Race 1:

1st place = 20 points
2nd place = 15 points
3rd place = 10 points
4th place = 5 points
5th place = 1 point

Race 2:

1st place = 10 points
2nd place = 6 points
3rd place = 4 points
4th place = 2 points
5th place = 1 point

Pole position for both races will be worth 3 points
In each class, there will be two championships, the Teams championship and drivers championship.

Provisional Schedule
The full race calendar is yet to be confirmed but currently looks like this.

Testing
I will be opening a room through the weeks up to the first event. The room conditions will vary from free runs to races, but no points will be available. I will attempt to open a room every Tuesday at 10:00 AM BST and also at 13:00 BST Every Thursday but these times and dates will vary. I will post the day before on here if i am going to open a room the following day at anytime.

The room Comment will be: British GT Test

Race calendar
I work full time at weekends, and am on a zero hour contract through the week meaning I wont always be able to commit to a certain race time. To overcome this, I plan to set a date according to the week the race will take place, and the Saturday before each week I will confirm a race time. This also allows you to give me any times you cant do so that each race should be able to fit around everyone's schedule. I do plan to open the room at the same time on each race date however, which will be 21:00 BST.

Race list :

Week Commencing - Circuit - Race 1 length - Race 2 length

28/07/14 - Silverstone - 1 hour - 30 minutes
04/08/14 - Brands Hatch - 1 Hour - 30 Minutes
11/08/14 - Red Bull Ring - 1 Hour - 30 Minutes
18/08/14 - TBC - 1 Hour - 30 Minutes
25/08/14 - Spa - 2 Hours (will be worth 2x standard race 1 points)

Registration
To register follow the instructions in the Car list and specification PDF Document

Finally, thanks for trawling through all that, and if you have any questions, post below, add me on PSN @robbopool or follow me on twitter @F1rob100

Just opened up a Practice room for anyone interested, will be running a quick test with different cars. Will be open for the next 30 minutes or so

Hi Rob, just wondered how much you've tested the specs and have you had anyone else test for you? Only asking because I ran in a GT3 series with all cars weighing 1390kg but there was a difference of 70bhp between the Nissan and the SLS.

Just to let you know, you need to spec each car individually if your going to make them equal. Because right now, I guarantee you that they aren't equal.

Good luck though:)

Yeah as I said quite new to this, did some tests but nothing too in depth, what would you suggest?

Well, for WGTC S2 (GT3 cars plus other GT cars for a total of 10 cars), we had 5 testers do laps in all cars at Monaco(handling), Monza(Speed), and Spa(balanced). We then took the overall averages from every driver at every track to come up with an average lap time per car covering all tracks. Then adjust specs as needed, and do it again:dopey:.

Not hard at all and very fun:D
Actually, that was a lie. It's miserable.

Hello, been working on the specs all morning. Did 2 hours at Silverstone GP track, around 2 hours of the Stowe circuit and an hour around Matterhorn, and have arrived at version 1.0 for the series specs. I will work more on these over the next few days but working 9 hour and 8 hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday this weekend so wont continue testing till Monday probably.

In the mean time, any feedback you can give me on these specs would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rob

I spec'd up a BMW and following your specs the pp is 615. It also needs stage 3 engine tuning to reach the 594 bhp which isn't included in the spec. Just to let you know Rob :)

I'll try and get a test session started tomorrow, not sure if anyone will be available as it is during the day, but I will try to open up a room at 11:30 AM BST for about an hour. Ill name the room "British GT3 test". Probably just do a free run to test the specs out some more.

Had no chance to test today unfortunately, had emergency dentist appointment and got called into work. But will continue tomorrow.

Im up for this too, i might do some testing of those regs tonight when im on

Cool, if you want to pick a car after some tests just let me know 👍

Test report on specs v1.0:
  • Z4 and GTR fairly evenly matched in terms of performance
  • R8 and SLS are further back than the two others and need specing up
  • R8 slightly slower than SLS
Was just a quick test and I will work in changing the cars to even problems out . Will try to post updated specs tomorrow afternoon, in the mean time if anyone else has any other feedback on the specs it would be a lot of help.

I have only just noticed, but the team Oreca r8 is a different model than the team phionix version. To prevent the need to spec an entirely different car, I'm going to take the team Oreca r8 out and add one additional slot to the other teams so each team will now be made up of three drivers. Either that or add a gt4 class made up of 3 teams? Not sure may add a poll to help decide.
