LOL I have first hand experience of a slow pc and fast internet. Back when I had aol and my 300mhz pc my computer could never keep upo with teh speed that it was downlaoding stuff at.

But my current pc specs are this

2.8ghz (hyper threading) whatever that means
Intel pentuium 4
Windows XP
80GB HDD at 7.200rpm
512mb DDR

Heres my speedtest results.

Your Connection

Actual Speed

True Speed (estimated)
Downstream 886 Kbps (110.8 KB/sec)
Upstream 240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec)

So I guess I just need to go and get me 2mb broadband as thats what I had with aol.

I would make the switch over to SBC yahoo. After a year when your contract is over, and you think you would like something, get COMCAST. I think DSL is fine, but everyone has their own opinion, but it would be nice to be even faster.

He's in the Uk, so these aren't options :)

Did you know Korea's default Megs broadband is 80Megs and up.

damn. I hear the japense had speeds around that figure. In france and europe theyre broadban is alot faster than ours. Yet again us UK folks are getting shafted.

Basically if your connection is a 1 megabit connection, you will see 125 kilobytes per second (1000/8) roughly. I say roughly because you will never get the maximum out of your internet connection, so lets say it's more like 110 kilobytes per second. If you think about that in bits again not bytes (110 x 8) you will see 880 kilobits per second.

:sly: Wow so i wasn't too far off then.

So when you have 56k dialup. Is that 56 kilo bits or kilo bytes?

Kilobits. 56kb (kilobits) = 7KB (kilobytes). The maximum download you're likely to get is around 5.1 or 5.2kB though.

:grumpy: For the record... I didn't have a choice because my dad chose it. Thankfully, life is a LOT better now with SBC DSL. :)
