Whats the work you've done to a ps3 controller? I just chunked mine against hard wood with a rug on top because of a GT5 license test. i will add pics in a minute (im in the middle of fixing it).

I had two controllers. My first one had some sort of rattling noise inside of it, but I didn't bother disassembling to find out. I thought it might impair normal gaming so I just bought another controller. Both controllers fell right onto a hard tile floor numerous times, from slips, no grip, etc My current one is gaining dirt at the creases, and is tough to remove them. Maybe a disassemble is necessary..
I haven't broken any of my DS3's, but going for the gold in the GT5 special event Grand Tour Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione caused a chip within the right side of the inner circle that the left analog stick resides in.
